Oh man, I’m so looking forward to All my Movies: “The Thing” with Kristian Harloff.
"Get the hell away from that thing. That's not a dog, it's some sort of thing! It's imitating a dog, it isn't real! GET AWAY YOU IDIOTS!!" -Some Swede
I can answer this… my wife is younger and just watched this movie with her a week ago… now her favorite. Was truly inspiring to her, and with her mental health, she found it amazing. All you gotta do is try your best and even if you lose, if you put your heart into it, you’re the champion of the world.
I saw Rocky in a small theater in downtown Philadelphia in 1976. When the movie ended the entire audience stood up and applauded.
Best love story disguised as a boxing story...still makes me cry along with rocky 2
That scene where Rocky and Adrian are in his apartment always reminds me of the song "Baby, It's Cold Outside"
I love when you do your movie collection. If it's in your collection I would love you to do Lawrence of Arabia. One of my favorites
One of the greatest movies ever made. I remember the first time I saw it as a kid on TV in 90s and I was hooked. Dan you can't just do a rocky review with out doing all the movies.
Garrett Brown chose a very interesting angle for his steadicam test footage there...
Enjoy how the formats for these shows switch up. Always enjoy listening to Dan deep dive in to stuff, but also enjoy the back and forth conversations. Would love another episode on a bad/flawed movie like the Reilly one on Jaws: The Revenge.
Lol I was thinking the same thing. I’m sure it was just a coincidence that the person he was following just happened tho have a very sharply well presented area for him to focus on and track 🤨
I love your breakdown of your movies, but whenever that Grogu is in shot looking all creepy-like at the camera, I can't stop looking at him... not to give you ideas, but it would be funny if you moved him randomly multiple times in each video.
Or move between the cuts. Show a part of the film, when returns he moved. 😅 More work just for the sake of the creepiness.
Thanks for this. Rocky series is still one of my favorites, including Creed. Great to have Kristian too.
I loved you having Harloff for this. Excellent conversation guys!
Though I have to say I did miss your in depth look back at the movie like you've done for Superman, Titanic, Godfather and so on. Please don't replace that when you have a guest, it's super interesting and educational! I'd rather have a longer video than miss the in depth look history of a movie from your viewpoint.
As always, excellent work!
I hear you - you’ll still have those as well. The intention of the show has always been to mix the deep dives with guests. Partly because those deep dive shows take A LOT of time to prepare. I hope the show grows enough to bring on more help, but I also have to keep my time and schedule manageable. If this were the only thing on my plate each week, I’d be able to put in the hours every episode, but for now, I have to mix it up a bit. I think you’ll enjoy what I have planned.
@@DanMurrellMovies Completely understandable Dan. I do enjoy everything you and Mara do and look forward to your content every week.
Cheers! :)
That Stallone Meets Rocky bit came from an hour long Rocky V TV special from 1990. It was goofy, but kind of sweet at the same time.
Great episode! Always nice to hear Kristian talk about movies he loves. And really enjoyed having a guest on, would love this more often
Good to see that Harloff worked his ass off being a Rocky fan for nearly an entire hour! Such dedication!!
I was 12 the first time I saw Rocky. My dad had given my brother the VHS Rocky collection for Christmas. We watched all 5 over the next 5 days.
I love this movie, one of the all time greats. But...I actually like Rocky II more. I think the arcs are bigger, the performances are more nuanced, and the fight is more intense.
Rocky is my go to franchise when I need a little motivational “push” in life. Those training montages are gold!
My favorite movie of all time!!!
Shout out to the Steadicam! I'm re-watching the TV show ER and those fast-paced, long, winding shots between traumas wouldn't have been possible without it.
Ahh yes I'm currently on my bi-monthly Rocky bender.
I love this show so so much. Thank you for this Dan
Love the Rocketeer item behind you. Can't wait for an All My Movies about it!
I love this show. It is absolutely great. I hope it never leaves.
I remember watching Rocky for the first with my whole family around the TV. It was great to get Kristian's insight and thoughts during this great review.
Great video! Thanks!
I think it would most definitely be a hit with the Academy and with audiences today. The Academy loves to reward up and coming young actors and ingenues (which I think, despite her brother's fame, Talia would still fit the bill.) As you mentioned, a few scenes would likely need to be rewritten or play out differently, but the story is one that will always resonate.
woo what a team up
The ending with the music is so great!!! Prob one of the best scenes plus music scenes in cinema history
Him not winning is brilliant. Great show guys.
Thank you for the wealth of information & insightI learnt from you both about this groundbreaking movie. I can't wait to watch more of your favourite movies.
Rocky is one of my favorite films of all time. I watched it when I was about eight years old. My dad liked it and it came on like AMC or something and I was allowed to watch it with him because it was on TV. I was just taken by that movie for some reason and I think it kind of shocked my mom and and dad because again I'm like 8 lol. To this day I watch Rocky at least once a year maybe twice. My wife even really likes. She isn't the biggest fan of sports movies especially boxing movies but she loves romance films so her and I both just love Rocky. The part where at the end he is yelling for Adrian and she is fighting her way through the crowd to get to him makes us both cry every time.
This was really good. Wish it was longer.
Dan is the Man!!!
Rocky a masterpiece!!!! I watched it on TV of course (I am old but nit that old), but it was a BIG thing with weeks of advertising for TV when this came on. Loved it since!
My father actually knew Chuck Wepner, The Bayonne Bleeder, who is a boxer that went 15 rounds with Muhammad Ali that inspired this movie
Kristian and dan!
The Turtles still being alive from the first Rocky is totally awesome made my day
Your outro song is a slapper.
I'll come back later to like this video. Right now, it has 69 likes (nice!) and I don't want to be the one who changes that.
I'm glad you addressed the scene where Rocky was getting pushy with her. I tried to watch this movie with my daughters recently and had to stop it and have a discussion about date rape.
You should have had JTE on as well
My disappointment that Kristian didn’t watch The Thing so you guys could review it is immeasurable/ kinda bummed lol.
But I do remember Dan mentioning a John Carpenter month on all my movies. So Kristian has a second (more like 20th) chance to watch The Thing. Looking forward to it. Love the show as always.
Let's get to 100k by next month.
Movie defined Stallone's career, and it defined the careers of MANY young boxers.
Love this film and watched rocky 1-4 on a loop growing up. I really didn’t catch how cringe the Adrien apartment scene is until I just rewatched with my wife. “Rocky I’m uncomfortable” “Hey I’m kinda uncomfortable, too” *steps closer* 😬 ...Gotta watch older films within their context
Hey Dan
The next movie you do like this, please do Braveheart as Kristian loves that one.
Love the deep dives. Was going to rewatch Shazam because I thought it was the closest thing to Rocky I could watch, but thank The Force for HBO Max.
I saw Rocky for the first time last month because it's on HBO Max and it is very boring but probably not compared to movies that came out that year.
now i gotta say i love this show, but i like the format without guests how you go over the production cultural impact and box office but maybe its just me. but again love it
Kristian, watch The Thing already...
Dan I'm really liking the series but is there any way you could adjust the volume of your voice on the podcast end it's so soft when I listen to it through Spotify. Don't know if anyone else has brought this to your attention but it would help out the podcast a lot
Rocky: The movie you remember your mom telling you to watch. That's how good the movie is. A boxing movie women would watch. Lol.
Do The Shining or Room 237
Talkin about Rocky i think of JTE ...
How does Harloff come to mind for Rocky before JTE??? ;)
What harloff is still around!!!! No way.
The 👁talian 🐎
what happened to your Ghibli reviews? that was the main reason I subbed your channel.
Rocky was a bit me too-ish with his girlfriend lol
Similar scene in Groundhog Day is very creepy.
We’ve pathologized normal behavior.
Thank you. I thought i was the the only one cringing watching that scene. 😒
I guess JTE was busy lol.
Dan have you lost weight?
I saw rocky the weekend it opened. I hated it . I grew up in a boxing gym. It wasnt ubtil Raging Bull came out did it show what boxers were really like. pleas do a video about raging bull
Dan you gotta start asking for likes, man! How does this video have 3,000 views and less than 300 likes??
I appreciate that he doesn’t do that.
@@chr1stopherthrobbin I do too, but I just wish more people knew about his excellence in movie criticism/expertise
Harloff is the worst!
