  • When hyenas hunt an animal that is bigger than themselves, they may hunt in packs and take down the prey by biting and dragging it to the ground. If they are after smaller prey, they will hunt alone in a fox-like matter.

      “Spotted hyenas are endurance hunters, that is, they don’t stalk their prey like lions or leopards, but hunt it to exhaustion. They are extremely well adapted to this strategy and their hunting success is high when they manage to pursue their prey over a long distance. They have exceptional stamina and their heart is very large for their body size. Furthermore, their muzzle is long and filled with a network of small blood vessels that are exposed to the air the hyenas breathe, which cools down their body temperature in a highly efficient way. This allows hyenas to immediately start feeding on their prey after an enduring and intensive hunt - a big advantage in a world full of hungry competitors such as other hyenas and lions. And they are always hungry: they can devour up to 15 kg of meat and bones in one single meal, which corresponds to about 25% of their body mass.” (Ngorongoro Crater Hyena Project)

    At what point does shock take over these prey animals? Do they ever faint in these situations?

    • @An_Actual_Rat
      @An_Actual_Rat Рік тому +5

      For shock to set in you must do a lot of damage fast. It happens more quickly if the prey is outmatched enough. A clan of hyenas would kill the topi perhaps faster than a couple of lions due to the sheer amount of trauma but now it's just a single hyena.
      The worst videos are when the prey animals get into shock and manage to wake up again because they still aren't dead yet. Really bums me out.

      Hyenas are the most coward and weakest animals in the animal kingdom.. Because they are the most abundant land Predators in the African wildlife..But they are always left behind...Why? Wild dogs who are vulnerable and endangered species but remained the top as the most successful hunters Followed by black footed cats and then the fastest, sweet cheetahs and Followed by Graceful leopards!! Hyenas clan is naturally larger than lion pride..It consists mainly of 60-80 members and even 100.members...But it is the magnificent lions who are the top Predators,top on the food chain and Africa's most powerful Predators.at all..And lions according to National Geographic,are the number one safari animals even they are not the most abundant...So where are your beloved hyenas now?
