  • Surprise, surprise...some of you have seen and heard of my homemade firewood splitter and I finally got my homemade wood splitter repaired and back in action. Had I have known it would only cost me $600 bucks, I would've had it repaired years ago. I have plenty of responsibilities so it is hard to prioritize even important things when you have a lot on your plate, but I am kicking myself about putting this one off and all the time I've lost with my slower splitters. Oh well, you can't win 'em all!
    Specifications: 35 ton 5 inch cylinder, 2 inch ram
    13 HP motor
    16 GPM two-stage pump
    15 second cycle time

      Thank you! I copied a machine called the Tempest. I actually learned hydraulics and designed this machine and I didn't know how to weld, so I paid a welder with firewood to put it together with his scraps, matched with the parts I bought. It was literally built while I instructed him about technicalities and such, visiting the shop for a session every now and then. It had some breakages because of design flaws and sat for years and surprisingly did not cost a lot to reinforce and only the splitting blades had to be redesigned. It's only drawback is that it is slow while splitting a maximum of 8 logs per cycle and straight wood only, but that is fast than my other single wedge splitters

      Lol. I copied a design, but I did mastermind the design and production. Cheers!

      A little slower than need be, but happy with putting my thoughts into reality by designing this. Cheers

      This machine isn't for the gnarly stuff, juat the straight stuff. I tried to finish that round but it got jammed. It has to be pulled out with a chain in reverse

    Nice, if I welded that it would have given up on the first round lol. I built a log table for mine but have not made it a lift yet.

      Lol. I did pretty good with my first welding job, which is the extra 3 ft of height on my wood hauler, the tailgate amd the back half of the floor. It'd been stress tested too

      I shouldn't have problems except for some torturing on the 6 inch channel of the frame, it may help a bit but if I breaks, I'll just reinforce

    So I see the boat trailer but what is actually splitting the wood? Is it wood or metal?

    • @OntarioFirewoodResource
      @OntarioFirewoodResource  Рік тому +1

      It's thick metal splitting the wood. Nothing less would hold up to the pressure, 35 tons at that. Thanks for watching!

      35 ton! I went with the best pump before a significant price increase, but the splitter wood have to be beefed up all around...frame (the 6 inch channel torqued at the moment, the splitting wedges might have to be thicker and more support on the riser for the box wedge because it's high up from the ram which increases the teetering effect

      Haha It just broke yesterday. The one inch plate rising up through the deck ripped of the sleeve

    No place to regrinde and sharpen the blade ...but good ❤

  • @footLogic
    @footLogic 2 місяці тому +1

    If that blade was double sided, and the piston was below the deck, and it pushed the blade instead of the wood...

    • @OntarioFirewoodResource
      @OntarioFirewoodResource  2 місяці тому +2

      The blades are angled up so that the opening is only narrow at the first 1/16 inch so that the wood can squeeze through. If the ram is pulling on the return end of the cycle the two pieces close the the ram on each side would jam up on the ram's shaft.

    • @footLogic
      @footLogic 2 місяці тому +1

      Ok. How about if the top blade was wider, preventing the top wood from falling onto the split wood. And the ram had a bar (like mouse trap) that pulls the un-split log back to start, while you clear the firewood? Sorry if this is stupid, but I love your splitter.

    • @OntarioFirewoodResource
      @OntarioFirewoodResource  2 місяці тому +1

      @footLogic thanks, i invite opinions, sometimes they point out things that ibwont get. It's like a boardroom with tram members adding input. I've been thinking about a redesign, but its very reliable and I also thought about putting the ram on top and having it work one way. If I upgrade the pump, I would have to reinforce the frame as well because torques and makes the wood lean on an angle so it jams up with tough wood

    • @OntarioFirewoodResource
      @OntarioFirewoodResource  Рік тому +2

      @user-lj3et9kd6q yes an axe is faster sometimes, but an axe doesn't split everything and you can't split 50 to 60 cords per year with an axe.
