  • In today's episode, we head out on a short journey to the south, where we picked up some tin and bismuth on our prospecting pick. We review how to prospect for ore, including how to zero in on the source, and then we get to mining! Then we bring it all home, gather a bit of silver from a quartz vein, and take a look at the different kinds of bronze available to us!

    When updating to the latest version, the world was corrupted 78 hours of play lost, I was very discouraged, but I already started another new world, as a motivation I set out to reach the bismuth bronze before the first winter😢😢

    • @elijones7926
      @elijones7926 11 місяців тому +3

      Make manual backups. I do every session. Make a shortcut to where you game save is, put said shortcut in a folder called vs backup saves or something akin to, rightclick to make a new folder, and drop the most current save in said folder. Niw whenever you close the game out just make a new folder, right click the save the game just made upon exiting the game (either all the way out or to main menu) copy, and paste in the new folder. I'll do that about eight or nine times before clearing out all but three of em to repeat the process. Sorry you lost a good chunk of time invested. Save game corruption is always a pain in the arse.

    • @elijones7926
      @elijones7926 11 місяців тому +2

      I've read somewhere vsync can have negetive results so i turned it off. Also limiting your max fps can help. Even though its not a very demanding game graphics wise, its still ALOT to process given that it has particules, bloom, moving plants in wind, voxel, rifts randomly forming and closing, underground stuph being loaded and unloaded etc etc. Alot to still process. Im running a rx 480 and its doing good, but im not flooring it with the graphics options. Plus it makes your tech last a bit longer as far as health (vid cards arent cheap now a days xS)

    • @nilssonanderss
      @nilssonanderss 11 місяців тому

      @@elijones7926 well in terms of graphics consumption mmm... I don't know whether to say that it's not demanding because I have an 8gb 2060s and I can barely put the game in medium shadows with 288 particle rendering blocks at 100% and lights at 20 and my graphics can barely maintain 60fps and that is missing 3 more graphic scaling, and in maximum graphics it barely reaches 20fps and in 1080p😅

    On me and my friends multiplayer server there is a surface deposit of quartz half a km from our house that is 4 to 5 blocks high and has both gold and silver. I think it may have happened bc the game tried to spawn 2 surface deposits in the same area.

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  11 місяців тому +2

      Yeah I think when they're more than 3 blocks tall, it's two deposits in one! That's a great find, though!

    I definitely prefer the dark purply/black colour of black bronze, not as big on bismuth bronze's more greenish colour but it does save on copper

    • @tehNashty
      @tehNashty 11 місяців тому

      I have to agree with you on most of that. I just don't worry much about copper because I can throw stones in almost any direction and find copper there.

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  11 місяців тому +1

      Oh, yeah. Black bronze is gorgeous, but it's just SO EXPENSIVE! If gold and silver were like, twice as common/easy to acquire, I'd probably favor black bronze lanterns and such, too. But molybdochalkos is the perfect blend of that nice black color AND it's relatively cheap... as long as you can find lead!

    • @ham8426
      @ham8426 11 місяців тому +2

      Ironically in TFC silver is the harder component to find, though gold deposits generally only occur deep down you find nuggets indicating them all over on the surface, i think I like how VS does it better but I'm still unimpressed by the size of the upper level deposits, I'm assuming the deeper deposits are bigger and wider? Most ore deposits in TFC just keep going and going its awesome, makes it very rewarding to find them with the pro pick vs caving in vanilla block game.

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  11 місяців тому

      @@ham8426 Not all ore deposits are necessarily bigger when you go deeper. However, the ores you get from those deposits generally trend upwards in quality, offering more nuggets per chunk that you crush with a hammer.

      Yea 1.16.5 was my first play of vintage story. Trying to just figure stuph out. I take my time on things alot. But thats how i figure out "inbetween things" like the watering can quelching and other stuph too. Some you've already touched upon. One of is stretching out charcoal even more by using just one to get up to temp, then when its going down just add a peat/log, instead of another coal. Even though you're not going back up to full temp, it still keeps it hot enough to let the higher temp requirement finish. Although, in retrospect, this feels a little cheaty to me, so i dont do it. I'll just throw another piece of charcoal on as i'd rather use it than my warm up materials.

    Could you do a tutorial about how to prospect for different minerals? Like if you need to find zinc for example, and there's none nearby, are there any rules for which chunks it will spawn in so you can play hot and cold with prospecting or is it random? In particular I have a huge issue finding lead in my world, wherever I prospect it's just a ton of copper and quartz and tiny amounts or traces of other stuff, but no lead in sight. Any tips or do I just need to wander the world till I stumble on some lead?

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  11 місяців тому +3

      Haha not gonna lie, you had me in the first half! But unfortunately yeah, the only rule about ore spawning is that it must be in a rock stratum that can have that ore. Like, you won't ever find lead in chunks that have granite as the top rock stratum because lead only spawns in certain (most but not all) sedimentary rock, and sedimentary rock never spawns below an igneous rock type, except sometimes basalt.

      One thing to know about lead in particular (and any other ore that only spawns in sedimentary layers, like borax) - because of how the propick interprets the results and gives you the descriptor, even "poor" can be worth mining for there since the ore can only show up in the very top most layers of the whole chunk.

      @Kurazarrh  7 місяців тому +2

      That sounds correct. I haven't rewatched this, but I'm pretty sure the way I explained it was in the context of ensuring that you make enough tin bronze to bring it to a multiple of 100. In this case, the minimum you'd need to be able to minimize your tin usage (since it's rarer than copper) is 600 units, or 6 ingots.

    Would you consider trying out a de-essing/sibilance reduction filter? You have good audio otherwise but I find those high pitched hissing sounds distracting and hard to listen to. I might also suggest trying loudness equalization so that they don't drown out nearby words. These videos are so high effort and relaxing that it's a shame for such a small problem to impact the experience.

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  11 місяців тому +2

      There isn't much I can do with that without muffling the rest of the audio. It has to do with how my teeth are organized, which leads to occasional whistling. If there is an automatic filter out there for Shotcut that will analyze the audio and filter it out without messing up the rest of the audio, I've not come across it.

    • @lazula
      @lazula 11 місяців тому +1

      @@Kurazarrh You might need to fiddle with the exact frequency a bit, that's just what I found personally convenient. The extension is pretty rough in how you configure it, only supporting pure logarithms, but you would have more freedom in something like Audacity which I tried out beforehand. I don't think it's exactly a low-pass filter with a rolloff by octave (I tried that but it sounded a bit off) but just an EQ curve that drops off to a flat volume reduction around that frequency.

      You can also light torches in a fire pit. They only take a second to light once they heat up to 300C. If you're not using the Better Firepit mod, you can pull the torches out when the stack hits about 290C and just add them one at a time so they go really quickly.

But does it also mean above and below you?? So when you prospect does it just show things within 8 blocks in all directions, or does it do from the bottom of the world to the top of the world??

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  4 місяці тому

      Yep, you've got it--it's not technically a circle, it's a sphere centered on the block that you break with the prospecting pick. That's why you can use it to play the "warmer/cooler" game with ores whether they're at the same altitude as you, or higher or lower.

      With 12 you have more time to prepare for winter, but the winter will last a lot longer too. So it's a trade off, I think normal 9 days are better because you get less of the winter and if you start farming early you're gonna have a ton of food
