"Why would you shoot the kid?" funny thing is, in the original, they did. Maria dies because of an explosion in the movie, but in the original game and in Sonic X, she did get shot by a GUN agent.

Keanu Reeves voiced Shadow perfectly, his John Wick voice really gave one emotion to the character and that is vengeance
In the first end credit scene, the characters are Metal Sonic and Amy Rose. In the second end credit scene, Shadow does return. 😊
The fact that getting Maria right was so important for this film to work, and they really did such a good job at it. Without her being the way she is, we can't relate to shadow, can't feel his pain and anger. So happy they did her justice in this too
You do realize they got her wrong in every possible way, and turned her into the most generic character possible, when in the games she was unlike anyone we've met, and that made her special?
@@almas4663 Obviously it's not one to one, but ditching her normal portrayal as, essentially, a saint to just let her be a kid is definitely an interesting take if nothing else. And while it wouldn't have really worked for the games' portrayal of these characters, I think it is as effective as it needs to be in this property's portrayal of 'aliens who just need someone to fit in with.'
@@almas4663 you do realise I never mentioned the games, I said they got her right for this film to work. Dunno if you noticed this, this move is based on the game, not a one to one recreation of it. So once again, they did good getting Maria right, becasue if they didn't THIS film wouldn't have worked

Adaptations shouldn't be a 1-to-1 recreation, simply because it's not possible due to completely different forms of media.
But that doesn't mean that an adaptation should ignore crucial aspects of the story and make is unrecognizable.
The best adaptations are the ones that understand what made the source material special, and that tried as hard as possible to keep as much as possible.
That's why people love Lord of the Rings and the first Harry Potter.
Movie Maria is an obnoxious, insufferable brat, and movie Gerald is a clown comic relief....All were ruined, even though they could've been written well if only the filmmakers actually understood them
It's an adaptations whole point, to get rid of what's unnecessary and keep what's crucial

Keanu Reeves as Shadow was great, perfect casting. It's also so meta because Keanu Reeves already exists in the sonic universe, like in the first sonic movie where the movie Speed was playing, and an easter egg or two in one of the episodes of the Knuckles series. So clearly somebody was a Keanu Reeves fan lol

They do have a lot of ideas to pull from the games. The team has been doing a great job at integratng game elements into the movies and creatng a better movie each time. I mean, just look at how great the CGI looks, how far even that element progressed.
This movie was very close to a game where Shadow debuted too (Sonic fans that adore Shadow are also VERY delicate about handling him as a character and this move did well to adapt that story, since a great majority of people love it) and there's many more games to get inspired by. I can tell from the fandom side, many love these movies and how much they respect their source material.
Some possible plot points to pull would be: Shadow sharing DNA with a ruthless alien warlord (yep, that is canon in the games), Metal Sonic (from the first post credits) debuted in a game with time travel, so that could happen too, there's a whole other dimension with Blaze the Cat being a mirror to Sonic essentially, a lot of Eggman stuff, like enslaving a planet of creatures to create a massive theme park, enslaving the world by creating a "magic gem" essentially (kind of like a Master Emerald), focus on Knuckles' tribe history and soooo much more.
They could always alter or drop some other points: here they altered Maria's death, she's shot by a GUN soldier in the games, Rouge the Bat didn't appear in this movie, even though her debut game is the same as Shadow's, Maria also had a genetic incurable illness in the games, that's totally cut out too.
If the team creates Sonic 4 to be as good as this movie, I will be a very happy individual :)

This movie lives up to the word Trilogy. I simply cried over a henchman, I was amazed by the dynamic between Jim Carrey and himself and I died and came back to life with the post-credits scene.
Damn, Sonic 4 is going to have Amy, Sonic's romantic interest, I'm dying to see how that works out.

@evanrosman9226 From what I've looked into, apparently, there is a deleted scene that explains that him licking Shadows quill gave him more durability and allowed him to live that long. It's still a plot hole regardless if it isn't in the final cut. I get why they did it, probably thought that would be too brutal for the demographic they were aiming for. Also, probably why they didn't have Gerald get executed via firing squad.

This is the best Sonic the Hedgehog movie of all time. Shadow's past was so depressing how he lost Maria. The battles keep getting better and more awesome. Jim Carrey playing Robotnik and his grandfather was perfect and hilarious

The other character that you saw, her name is Amy Rose, and yes, Shadow is alive, and Sonic The Hedgehog 4 has already been confirmed. Coming out in 2027
Hey Clariss. I was waiting for your take on this movie and I’m very pleased to see your enjoyment. As a huge Sonic fan, you have no idea how much this film has meant for me and for countless others. Everything you have seen ties directly to the lore of a few games; such Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog, with some minor plot alterations. No problems with that since it is based on something that was already told and it happens to be one of the most beloved in the series. When I first heard the announcement that Shadow will be voiced by the legendary Keanu Reeves, I was skeptical because although there is no doubt that he’s a remarkable actor, I was unclear of how he will do his voice since Shadow has been wrongfully labeled as the emo guy aka Edge Lord. However, when I saw the teaser and heard him, I took back all of my doubts entirely. What makes it so special is that it was a major love letter to the Sonic fan base as a whole that they even played the main theme song of SA2 when Sonic and Shadow joined forces. When I heard that tune, I was gleeful as hell, alongside with another fan who watched it with me. As for the character, there is a lot of lore behind it. In fact, there are a few videos that discussed very clearly behind his origin. You can check out it if you wish. With Metal Sonic and Amy Rose appearing out of nowhere, I can only imagine the mere possibility for the next film in the works.
P.S when they featured that telenovela parody, I should’ve thought about how you would feel about it since from one Latino to another, it is a major stereotype that it’s either hilarious or mediocre. With this film, it was the former. Plus, with Shadow’s comments, I was like, “Ha, he would have a field day with those.” See you on the flip side, hermana.
Saw this movie when it came out in theaters last month. It was amazing! And Shadow. He’s one of the most popular characters in the Sonic franchise. And he’s definitely one of my favorite anti heroes. In case you don’t know Shadow made his first appearance in Sonic Adventure 2. And his backstory is very tragic. And it’s somewhat different from the movie. In the games Shadow was created by Professor Gerald Robotnik. Dr. Eggman’s grandfather using genetic mutation. Shadow was created on a Space Station called Space Colony ARK and was the subject of a medical and research military program called Project Shadow which was led by Gerald. Shadow is also known as the Ultimate Life Form. And the project was a top secret initiative by the United Federation (another way of saying Federal Government). The United Federation & Gerald both had different goals. They wanted to use the project as a means to become a weapon for war & Gerald only wanted to cure his granddaughter Maria, who has an uncurable disease called Neuro-Immune Deficiency Symdrome (NIDS) & was kept in the ARK for remission. All advanced research on the project was strictly confidential. Throughout his time on the ARK Shadow had formed a strong bond with Maria. They both shared a deep friendship with each other. Maria who is a sweet natured girl wishes to visit Earth when she was cured. But unfortunately there was an accident. G.U.N.(Guardians of United Nations working under the United Federation) seized the Project to eliminate anyone involved with the project & take Shadow away because they deemed him and the ARK a threat. Gerald tried to stop GUN while helping Maria and Shadow escape. Eventually they both got to the escape pods and Maria saves Shadow. But a GUN soldier found them and shot Maria at gunpoint negotiating her to surrender. With her last bit of strength before saying goodbye, Maria asked Shadow to protect the world for her sake and give everyone a chance to be happy, just as the black hedgehog was jettisoned from the ARK. Unfortunately, after Shadow landed on Earth GUN was able to capture Shadow and put him into stasis for 50 years & Gerald was imprisoned & forced to continue his experiments. After finding out about Maria’s Death he began to lose his mind unable to cope with her death. Afterwards he altered Shadow’s mind to get revenge on the world and cause global destruction. He was executed. Which leads to the events of Sonic Adventure 2. And in the 2005 Shadow The Hedgehog game it goes deeper into the character of Shadow in which the main villain of the game is somehow involved with his past. And in that they tried to make it a dark, gritty, & edgy game but unfortunately it was poorly executed even though it had amazing ideas in terms of both story & gameplay. But was redeemed with the recent Shadow Generations game. But Shadow 05 has an amazing soundtrack. Hell, the soundtracks for the Sonic franchise are simply something to behold. I’ll be honest there are some elements in the movie in terms of Shadow’s backstory they didn’t take from the games which I was disappointed. I still liked it because it kept that emotional bond between Shadow and Maria. I loved the movie and I think it’s the best in the movie series so far but I was still disappointed at some of the elements from the game that were not in the movie. Again loved the movie and I still liked Shadow’s backstory in it. And also one thing that I felt could’ve probably helped the movies in terms of the human characters and a few other elements as well. They could’ve taken from the Sonic 4Kids anime from the early 2000s called Sonic X. That’s all the info and my opinion I should give you Clariss. 28:27 And also that song is literally from the games. Really cool song called “Live and Learn” by Crush 40 which is a duo consisting of singer Johnny Gioeli & guitarist & composer Jun Senoue. They are known for their contributions to the music in the Sonic Games. Most of Sonic games soundtrack are rock music & that’s what makes them amazing! And also those characters in the post credits scene are from the games the pink hedgehog is Amy Rose & the Sonic robot is Metal Sonic. I can’t wait to see what they give us for Sonic 4 and I hope they give a Shadow spin-off film or series. And also one thing that I really like about the movies is they make much more sense in terms of the setting because in the games there points where in each games it takes place in either Sonic’s world or Earth and it’s kind of confusing.
Casting Keanu Reeves as shadow was an excellent choice. He was able to express Shadow's pain extremely well.
Maria and Shadow’s friendship is my favorite thing about Shadow’s character.
I hope that when Sonic and Shadow meet again, Shadow becomes not only a new ally for our heroes but also a part of their family.
After everything the poor guy went through, that’s the first thing he deserves in his life now.
I wish we saw that soft side of him more but I would hope to see more in the future.

Eggman did destroy part of the moon in games as a warning shot. It reminds broken within the game lore.
Also, Space Colony Ark/ The Eclipse Cannon didn’t blow up in the games and it just stayed floating up in space near the planet and the broken moon.
If you want to see more of Shadow and Maria's relationship, you should absolutely react to the Shadow Generations "Dark beginnings" animations that got released recently: They seem to have been planned alongside the movie's script since they share some elements, and they're absolutely some of the most well animated and directed things i've ever seen, super impressive stuff. It follows the canon/backstory of the games rather then the movies so there will be a few things that are different, but you should have enough context to follow along with what you need to.
In the games there’s a giant water dragon character who is a misunderstood hero. I’m guessing the broken moon disturbing the tides will be how he is introduced
My poor Stone always ends up sad in the finale of the movies and this time he lost is world (Robotnik), this movie make me so sad.

The robot sonic is simply called Metal Sonic. He's a robot created by Eggman in the games to rival Sonic's speed.
The pink hedgehog is Amy Rose.
Both of these characters made their debut in Sonic CD, where Eggman attacks Little Planet (a strange planet that appears for 1 month, is unaffected by gravity and has things called Time Stones that can mess with time). In the game, Amy is kidnapped by Metal, and Sonic eventually saves her.

I'm glad they showed how incredibly wholesome Shadow and Maria's connection has been in the Sonic franchise. This movie changed Shadow's backstory a little since kids would also watch this. His backstory in the Sonic Universe is more tragic, especially with Maria's disability and how she actually died. You should check out his backstory. Also check out the new game Sonic X Shadow generations & its short animated series "Sonic X Shadow generations Dark Beginnings"

I watched Sonic as a saturday morning cartoon as a kid, so I don't remember it well. I do know that the Sonic universe is huge, with so many characters, and I'm on board with more movies just going off the rails
I like how as the films progress, Jim Carrey`s Ivo Robotnik looks and sounds more like Mike Pollock`s Eggman from the games.

Words cannot describe how amazing of a theater experience this was when I saw it opening day. I saw it in Dolby and it was an experience. My brother was geeking out at so many points and the emotions I felt watching this was so pure. This definitely the best of the trilogy

That’s Amy Rose, Sonic’s Self Proclaimed Girlfriend. She first appeared in Sonic CD. Even that robot doppelgänger hedgehog is called Metal Sonic created by Eggman also first appeared in Sonic CD.

She's meant to be a female equivalent of Sonic in the games, but she smashes people with an oversized hammer. She also has a friend named Cream who's a rabbit girl that uses her ears to fly (a female equivalent of tails).

If this is truly Jim Carrey's final movie, then I'd accept that, because his apparent death in this movie was more of a worthy final note than the second movie. But since he’s still up to do another, I guess only time will tell.

This series is pure joy and very sincere and heartfelt movies. I never expected any of that from Sonic of all things. Knuckles is still the best.

So in case you’re curious the two new characters introduced in the first post credit scene were Metal Sonic and Amy Rose, Metal Sonic being a robotic version of Sonic created by Eggman and Amy is one of Sonic’s close friends and is also head over heels in love with Sonic and their relationship has become something of an inside joke in the Sonic franchise in fact one of the games gives you the ability to peal the two together where they’re referred to as “Cute Couple” and also both characters originated from the same game called Sonic CD a game that focused mainly on the concept of time travel which based off leaked behind the scenes concept art for this movie it seems like originally the post credit scene was actually going to acknowledge time travel and people have already come to the conclusion that the fourth Sonic movie will be about time travel with Metal Sonic and Amy possibly coming from the future or perhaps an alternate future where Eggman won
By the way the small gems are chaos emeralds
