After almost ripping my hair out in frustration, I searched and came across this video. I tried everything as advised and it sorted out my issues with stitch-skipping and bunched-up bottom threads. Thanks a mill! From a grateful South African. 🇿🇦
Thank you for the video. I've had this machine for 2 years and had no idea what the plastic L shaped gadget was used for. Now, no more problems getting that needle in the machine.
THANK YOU! was thinking I might take my sewing machine to a repair shop but I just ordered a $4 bottle of sewing machine oil and hoping this does the trick:)
I just bought this machine and was having a heck of a time loosing the screw. Mine would not budge. I almost returned it. I ended up going to my local hardware store and buying a set of offset screwdrivers-$7. It did the trick. I hope this helps someone else who is having the same issue.
Your videos are EXCELLENT. I am new to this machine and I already managed to jam some thread and it won't work. I didn't find the short screwdriver (didn't know what it was) and was frustrated. Of course, I ordered a couple of short screw drivers from Amazon before I remembered that you might have a video (LOL). Anyway, this is FABULOUS. Thanks so much.
Pg 100 in the manual says not to oil, however it been squealing for a few weeks now and tonight it will not go into reverse. I'm hoping that a drop of oil will do the trick. If not, at least it's still under warranty, but trust me, the last thing I want to do is find a box big enough to pack the beastie back up and ship it back to Amazon. Fingers crossed!
My machine had been deemed as "unrepairable". Very sad....I am not however giving up on the 9960. The reviews still look good, got my money back and they are on sale at Amazon right now....new one arrives today!
Note the ring around that center hole. It isn't an actual ring, but a ring valley. put the bristles of your brush into that valley, and move it around several times. You will see that a lot of lint accumulated in that little ring valley.
Hi, i have this machine about 3 years now and never oily it because in Singer 9960 Instruction Manual page 50 - MAINTENANCE on the bottom says "* There is no need to lubricate this machine." May you please help with that? Thanks for your videos.
She never ever answers these questions just so you know. there was someone from my Facebook group for this machine who did find a maintenance sheet from singer indicating that yes you can oil this part of the machine
The manual should NOT have said this. I did know to put a drop of oil under the bobbin case in the ring, but knew nothing about the need for silicon grease on the moving parts above the needle that moves this mechanism up and down. Im fastideous about cleaning my machine (every time I finish for the day) so why was it sounding like a broken lawn mower? Called Singer and was told it needed grease on the moving parts under the cover above the presser foot. When i turned the hand wheel, it was very tight at the end of the rotation. Singer told me the repairman does this when you take your machine in for repairs so they advertise permanent lubrication, meaning you dont need to do it since you (supposedly) take your machine to the shop each year for maintenance. Of course, w YT vids and repair ppl teaching us these things, i asked Singer to please change the manual to be accurate on lubricating the machine . Mine has 5 yrs use & was perfect until this problem arose. Be forewarned!
@@grandmalovesmebest OMG This was so helpful! I have been quilting on this machine for years and not once oil it. All because of the manual. I was have real problems with my machine that sounded like my machine is in a car reck. Oil the shaft and it runs like butter! Thank you so much!
I have the same seeing machine and I have bit of a problematiikka with my thread, that goes trough the needle. So after ive sown for only couple of stiches, the upper thread gets REALLY tight and sometimes it snaps when I push my project from under the needle.. Can I adjust the tightness of my upper thread? Or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks! Loved this cleaning video! 🙂
Why do I spend more time trying to get a sewing machine to work, than actually sewing? The needle keeps hitting the bobbin case and bends the needles. I have gone through three needles already trying to get this to work. The bobbin case keeps coming out of place. It is installed correctly and so is the needle. What else can I look into?
Hello, I am talking to you from Ethiopia. This machine (k=6F=365=35) has a reading on the board then no worked please if you can how i solve this problem please? thank you for yours help!
I can not open my machine 😢. Today i took out needle from the needle bar and when i was putting it back needle slid inside the machine. Now I tried to open from the back side so can take a look where that needle stuck, unfortunately I can not open it 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢. It so frustrating. Please help if anyone can
Hi thank you for the tutorial ... I’m having issues with automatic cuter isn’t cutting 😭😩 I just got one month ago I’m pretty sure I broke it 😳 and now it makes a sound once I stop seeing .... and because I saw a previous video I touched the button at the very bottom of the the machine and now my stitches are off ... please advise me what should I do ??

Even replacing the blade did not fix my auto thread cutter. I took it to the shop and they could not fix it either. Once the cutter goes on the newer model 9960, it is gone.
Often times a bent needle isn't visible to the eye.... but it is bent. I keep a stock of about 50 needles on hand because I change them a lot (which everyone should). In addition to changing them between projects.... I also change a needle any time I've had the fabric and thread get tangled in the feed dogs (happens when you try to start sewing thin fabrics too close to the edge). After getting the mess out of the feed dogs... the needle looks fine but 9 times out of 10 it's actually bent and will hit the bobbin case.
@@gidrealightsky the manual was written a long time ago. and if you search on Singers own website you will see them talking about oiling the bobbin wick.
@@gidrealightsky do you know how much money it will cost to update the manual? 😂😜🤣 they don't really care they would just prefer you keep buying machines.
Exactly. My bobbin case did the same thing as the other lady, getting hit w the needle. I bought a new one (part is for the 9960 only) on sale, on line, for $99! Almost stroked as i hadnt used it for long and the machine was brand new. A hundred dollar part on a $329 machine bought from Amazon, seemed awful. But, other than replacing the threader & cutter, until the lubrication dried up, the machine was perfect and never needed a repair. If the manual had told us it DOES require lube after awhile it would not need work now, so do the yearly maintenance or pay 1/3 the cost of a new machine to have someone else do it.
