I remember going to a Silos gig and was blown away after seeing Graham walk out onto the stage. I was already very aware of who he was since I was a fan of Joe Jackson. I'd love to hear more about how he ended up touring with the Silos. And a few years later the same thing happened when I saw Darden Smith...out comes Graham! Fantastic musician!
Really enjoyed this conversation. Thank you both. Graham's bass playing and bass lines have been an inspiration to me. I was lucky enough to play Is She Really Going Out With Him alongside Gary Sanford at a jam night in north London not so long ago. What a thrill, (probably not quite so for him....:)) I look forward to reading his memoirs.
Wonderful interview, both parts. Graham is a wonderful human being and a great bass player. I have been a Joe Jackson fan since the early eighties. The more i have listened to the albums, the more i have become a Graham Maby fan. As a hobby i play the saxophone since 1984 and double bass since 1997. For now I concentrate on the bass guitar. I am looking for the Graham Maby book but it seems the book is not available yet.
I got the look sharp album in January 1979 when I was 13 years old. And I've been hooked ever since. I saw Joe and Graham and the band at Great Adventure in Jackson New Jersey twice that year. And I just recently saw them again in Pennsylvania. I once met Graham outside of the count Basie theater in Red Bank New Jersey. He was extremely friendly and talked to us for a few minutes. A true gentleman and a genius artist. I've seen them play too many times to mention and can't wait to see them again.
Thank you for sharing, such a fascinating discussion, It deserves a lot more views. I hope at some point you do a part 3. Watching some JJ live videos you also see how important Graham’s vocal contributions are too. I have also searched for the book but it can’t be found, are there any updates on a publishing date?
Love Graham's bass work. Actually, our band covers Look Sharp. I actually moved on from Joe's work with Night and Day. And then, discovered EC and the attractions and Bruce Thomas. To this day, Graham and Bruce are two of my fave's.
Underrated. Why don't more people talk about this great band? Great to hear these stories.
Totally agree. Thank you for listening.
I very much enjoyed getting to know Graham through this interview. This was well done and informative. Thank you, both.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Jow Jackson--is criminally underrated. Graham Maby is awesome!
"Night and Day" is a masterpiece. I remember listening to it in my garage at night during the autumn of 1982. I was bowled over right away.
Me too! Thanks for listening.
Fantastic, thanks so much for doing this, Graham and Brian! Have always been a fan of Graham's lyrical, melodic playing and tone.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Joe Jackson and Graham Maby…bring so much joy to so many. Charleston SC show 9-22 was pure perfection.
Thanks for listening!
Thank you Graham. You’ve been a primary bass influence of mine for 40 years. Still play to your lines regularly studying your time, groove, and feel.

Hey thanks for listening! I love Gary Sanford’s playing. The jam sounds fun.

Thank you Ron! I agree, Graham has been an inspiration to so many of us.
Beautiful interview (both parts). I'm jealous that you know one of my big bass heroes. Nice job!
Thank you!

I am not familiar with "punching it in"--loving this interview
Very common. Glad you enjoyed the interview!
So interesting, lovely guy ❤
Thanks for watching
@@briandohertyondrums I've followed both Graham and Joe over the years and just happened upon this interview today , so thanks 😊
You’re welcome! I’d like to do one more chat with Graham in the coming months. I can’t get enough! 😂

Thanks for listening Mark. He was my favorite bass player too, when I was in high school!
Does Graham mention in his memoir that when he was living in Milltown NJ he worked at Trader Joe’s?
I don’t think so. Thanks for listening!
Maybe not in the interview. I hear Trader Joe’s provides great health benefits and is a good place to work.
Didn’t he play w the Smithereens who are from NJ?
For someone born in the UK, he has almost no accent left. Interesting.
Just what I was thinking. A mix of west country and US. Interesting guy though and great bass player.
@@richbrice3299 Absolutely
Worked because of sue Hadjopoulos.
Sue is great!
What a coup! Shpuld be half a million hits.
Agreed!
@@briandohertyondrums any sign of the book yet?
