Since I wasn't able to bring Dakota on my last adventure, and I know how many of you love my little truck dog, I thought I'd make this trucking vlog extra special. Trucking with my dog is always better, as traveling with a pet can help with the loneliness that being an OTR trucker often brings. I hope this video brings you all lots of happiness, and helps to showcase what it's like having a pet on your truck.

I'm 66 now and more or less retired, not really, I can't ever stop driving and they will be hauling my bones out of a cab someday. But this video reminds me of my girl Bailey who trucked with me a few years back and looked much like Dakota. Those were good times and many good miles, and Bailey loved it, she wouldn't even let me open that truck to leave without her being in it. My wife used to say she wished I would treat her like that dog...lol...Bailey passed away at a ripe old age, a day after our last run together. But in all this I just got to say there is no life a dog appreciates more than what we give them as truckers, I know Bailey loved every second of it, and Dakota does too. Have fun and enjoy there should be more of this...
Legend has it that she's still drinking that water to this very day.
I once had 2 Australian german shepherds dropped off at my door back in 2008. We gave one to my sister and the other one we kept. Within 2 months she was up to my knees, and I'm 5'2'. We lost her due to cancer 2 months ago, 11 years old and she was still fetching sticks. Every time I go to my sister's house I always think of my girl.
I can somewhat relate, I owned a GSD/Australian shepherd mix puppy at one point in my life, but that was suddenly cut short due to escaping from my backyard and not coming back for unknown reasons. Oh well. :(

Nothing wrong with getting your dog from a responsible, caring breeder! If we love our favorite breeds we have to keep them alive, right? She’s beautiful & seems so smart & such a great temperament. ❤️ Keep her shots up-to-date, including rabies/parvo & the shot that keeps her safe from smelling/consuming “shedding” from other animals (any time she goes outside she’s at risk). You may know all these things already, but just in case. 😊 Safe travels & thank you for driving courteously out there.

I love watching all of ur footage w/ Dakota. I’m a female trucker & have a male GSD Charlie.
He made a great truck dog! I miss our adventures together. But I want to warn you that those HORRIBLE spurs are called goat’s head spurs and they are the reason he is no longer a truck dog.
He got into them several times over the years & I was always able 2 pull them out with no problems.
Then he got a nasty infection that required surgery on both paws.
It kept coming back & we had to treat him w/ both antibiotics & steroids. The vet told us that he now has a created allergy to them. All b/c a tiny tip of one broke off in his paw one time.
PLEASE get ur girl some of those booties that they sell in Petco. They will help save her from this. They’re a bit of an adjustment but Charlie adapted to them quickly. (Plus it was hilarious watching him learn to walk in them.)
They are also great for protecting her feet from hot pavement in the summer and the de-icer used all over in winter. That’s not good for their paws either.

I couldn't agree more. I was the owner of a same apt complex years ago and found that the dog did a better job of picking tenants than the credit check company did. A Golden Retriever named Lucky. If she was ok with them, they turned out to be great tenants, if she backed away from them, and she did a few times, she was telling me, watch out, they are trouble. I was in a low income, high crime area, Lucky saved my life more than once. She is in dog heaven now. I miss her so.
I also have my dog on the truck. They make great companions!
There is no better companion than a loyal dog, especially a shepherd. I had one for 11 years and she was extremely smart and protective.
Any dog is a good loyal companion. I bring my chihuahua with me on my truck hes my best friend on the road.
Just remember, if you've got it a truck brought it. Shout out to all our boys and girls in the trucking industry!!!

I’m a trucker, actually I run as a team with Ami . We have 4 Australian Shepherd’s that come with us. Wouldn’t have it any other way. They’ve got all the lower 48 states with us. Good luck to you. Stay safe out there.
I truely miss having a dog on the road. My old boy passed away a year ago. After having Moe shy of 16 years. Its hard being on the road without him. Best dog a boy could ask for. Chocolate lab's definitely have a spot in my heart now.

I was SHOCKED how bad of a puppy my German Shepherd was. It took us almost a year to potty train her. A YEAR. And trust me, we went to a trainer at 8 weeks and did all the research. She’s a stubborn lady. But she is now the BEST dog. Worth every night of 2 hours of sleep. ❤️
That is not the norm...I've several GSDs in my life....currently have three and the beauty of them is that they are super easy to train....glad it worked out.
Dakota is so cute & well behaved, as most German Shepherds are. I miss mine lil girls Sheeba & Kayleigh. I miss all my "kids" Shepherds, my little princess pitbull Diamond, every furbaby I've had. Just everyone make sure you savor every moment with yours as well. Cherish every millisecond

I have a Blue Tick, Dottie, with me in the truck. She has probably half a million miles she has rode with me. She does the same thing with the stickers and will stop and look back at me and wait for me to get them out. It's become a part of life having her on the truck. If I leave her home everytime i hit the parking break I expect her to be jumping out of the sleeper. The drive up the Columbia River is amazing. One of my favorite places in the world in Multinoma Falls.

Be careful when she puts her front paws on your step, reson I'm saying that is my husky did that and got one of his claws caught in the step and tore it out, so what I did is put a pcs or rug there and that worked

Little tip from a fellow Sheppard owner, I've trained my Daisy to only use the passenger door. I know how much they want to follow you, but I don't want her jumping out on the fuel island, or at the side of the road.

Just get your CDL. Do your year and move on from them. They're not the best for sure.
My sister used to truck with her shepherd mix. He was beautiful and big and very protective. He loved children and knew if a person had evil intentions. He scared away alot of creepy and bad people from my sister when trucking. I truly miss that dog. Stay safe and listen to dakota.

Shelby you go girl! I am a manager at a distribution center in NC for 6 years now. Before this I did security for 6 years at different distribution and trucking companies. I’ve seen more female truckers and happy there are more in our generation and it makes me so glad you created this channel! One of your videos came across my feed and I had to tell my boss and everyone at work about your channel!!!!

I love it , dogs really are man's best friend , they will follow you or be beside you and are always there to try to comfort you if you start to feel down or depressed . They are truly the best traveling companion you could ever have . We have one here that is part pit , she is my niece's dog but she has had her since she was pup which was about 7 years ago and her antics and playfulness revel us on a daily basis . She wags her tail and it will hit one of her sides then swing all the way around to hit her other side , I don't understand how she takes that because her tail when it hits us is like being hit with a metal rod . But she is not only a part of the family but is actually a family member and lives inside 100% of the time . She even has her own tv and has her own shows that she actually watches but we have to change the channel for her and if we forget she will bring the remote to us to remind us .
Where the hell were people like you when I did my over the road stint, everyone I ran into looked like they drank heavily and hadn't seen another person in 3 years

The best thing about having a dog with the in the truck is it forces you to get out and move around.
Before I started taking my heeler with me I would sit and the truck for days. As a driver we need to get out and walk!

Yes that is exactly what I used to do,take my co-pilot my best friend his name was Tye. My dog loved it sitting looking down at people as I drove. Lol plus a big help when I pulled into truck stops to have showers. Guard Dog his job was. Awesome that you take your dog. Be safe driver👍
I was driving with my friend in the middle of the night one time and a little girl in a white dress suddenly appeared on the side of the road. My friend said to me "did you see that?" I said nope and drove a little faster.

My dog is a australian shepherd, when he was a sweet puppy he destroyed a big plant in my garden, tossed it over rolled it around until the dirt was out of it and then threw it into the air until it broke,
destroid 3 left shoes, 2 internet cables and almost 1 240 volt power cable (saved him just in time) and took apart a hobby knife with a sharp blade without cutting himself, he was quite a handful lol
I've got a scary story. One time a swift driver prepared to park to my left. Then to make matters worse, from the corner of my eye I see a cr England blindsiding to my right.
Sound like u was having a nightmare.

I'm a city driver for FedEx Freight and absolutely love it. Unfortunately we can not bring any animals with us. However I love running into the OTR drivers who bring their dogs. I got to love on a Husky yesterday. Stay safe out there.

I took my CDL driving test, it was 2 hours of driving a loaded cab over with 13 speed. instructor said " put me to sleep and you pass" we got back to the yard he was sleeping like baby.
You should be thankful Your dog just rolls down the windows. If she ever figuers out hot to use the clutch to move from a stop and float the gears with the stick you will have to get her a commercial drivers license. Laugh out loud. Dakota ferch the Freightliner. Laugh out loud.

Once when I was driving in New Orleans and I got lost in the 9th ward. It was after hurricane Katrina so the gps never match the road signs. I stopped at a red light and someone ran out in front of me and jumped on my truck. He started screaming that demons where coming for me and the end of the world was near. Pretty sure this person was on something scared me to death! I'm thankful I was stopped because I was hauling a ship anchor and there was not way I could have stopped.

Very good video! Thank you! I OTR off\on 30 years its not for ever one and differently having a dog is a good thing. One thing good about a dog is you have to play with the dog so they will stay healthy and keep the driver alert by walking and exercise. Roll-on good buddy!

I know I just missed your Q&A but I just found this channel (It's on the cusp of blowing up I'd think. It's very well done) and the first things that came to my mind:
1) Do you get any looks or have to deal with comments or attitude because you're a young woman in a very masculine profession? How do you deal with this?
2) What do you do to pass the time? What kind of sensory stimulation do you consume to not go nuts on the long stretches? Podcasts, Spotify, Audiobooks, etc
3) Do you have ambitions / plans to move into the Owner/Operator scene and run the business side yourself? If so what's your strategy?
4) Your editor knows what he's doing. Good on ya dude.

OMG click on you by accident so happy I did, I'm a subscriber now. The fire at the end of your video reminded me of Cabbage Hill we called it down into Pendleton and brakes would heat up. Years ago in the 80's brought logs and chip load down her it became a art not to heat up the brakes, I was about 37 then. You have the greatest nature about you loved your video and your Dakota beautiful, don't lose either one. Your a breath of life and sweetness to todays drivers stay happy.

I just graduated from trucking school with my cdl. Most of the jobs i ever had was store clerk jobs. So this job is a big departure from the jobs i usually work. Kind of nervous but I'm humble enough to learn from otr trainer moving forward.

At one time I had a Yellow Lab that loved to ride with me his name was Jake, Jake was a good dog and worked out a way to let me know he needed to go potty or just wanted some exercise. The truck I had was perfect for having a big dog on the truck, it was a Peterbilt 379 EXHD with a custom 84 inch Double Eagle sleeper with an extra bunk although that added weight to my truck. It was a working Show truck with a lot of chrome and chicken lights and the same for my Great Dane 48' reefer trailer with 10'2" spread axle and a Thermo King Reefer unit, it had a ton of chrome and lights on it, also my truck had a wheelbase of 320 inches, 450 CAT turned up to where I was making about 600 Horsepower 18 speed with double overdrive and 3:36 rears, twin 7" straight stacks.

Hi, I read your bio on FB and see myself. I drove for over 20 yrs. In 2009 my Diabetes became an issue. I decided to go to school myself. I have a major in Business Admin, and duel minors in Accounting and Marketing. I miss the freedom on the road, the sights and the loneliness.
