been trucking 11 years. best advise , find an old school trucker who's been out there many years & talk to them as much as possible. I was fortunate enough to have some downtime & sat and talked with a 75 year old man who'd been on the road for 50 years. I learned a lot & the information was priceless. I'll never forget it.

I absolutely LOVE your vlogs! I’m a 59 yr old woman who very much wanted to become a truck driver back in the early eighties....I learned how to drive an old Kenworth twinstick ( 40 forward gears with 8 reverse), I could drive that truck like nobody’s business, but unfortunately at the time it was very hard to find work because I was a woman...that men felt like I had no business driving truck in the first place! And they let me know it too! I instead drove a 40 foot school bus for over 20 years. It wasn’t really what I wanted to do but at least it was still a large vehicle that kinda was like almost maybe driving a truck....except that my cargo was very precious and I treated it as such. I wish you well on your journeys and pray that the Lord keeps you and your beautiful dog safe always! Thank you so much for letting me experience my dream through you...☺️👍🏼🙏🏼💕 Terri

Driving backwards is a big part of trucking. Not just because it's a required action to dock and deliver, but because it's dangerous. More truck related accidents involve backing than on the highway.

I used to be a flatbedder. When I drove across northern Nevada, and needed to stop short of Reno, I hit the TA at Mill City, or the Wadsworth rest area. I tried the Sparks TA once, I actually liked the rest area if I had a few hours. I used the RV water to bucket wash my tractor. Some times I could not wait until the company paid for a wash. I was hauling an over-length load to Turlock and was stopped by a Nevada HP just as I was getting ready to climb out of Reno. He pulled out a tape measure to check my chains on the load. One was dead on 10 feet. He looked bummed that he could not issue me a ticket. Be safe!

I like the style of your vlogs now where you edit in in guessing what Dakota is saying throughout your uploads that’s always entertaining to me at least I don’t know about anyone else and I enjoy your journey as a female truck driver you are an amazing woman for showing other truck drivers your kindness the trailer fire upload you filmed that is a key truckers code to assist a truck driver in a emergency that is a true definition of a real truck driver who is there to help if you are in the vicinity I would not change anything as in what you decide to do in your uploads Dakota captions are entertaining the upload with Dakota driving your truck while you were retrieved the recovery semi truck was entertaining to watch 🙂 keep on truckin Shelby and this is off topic just a little bit but have you ever thought of leasing your own semi truck if the western star semi you are always driving is not a truck that you are not leasing because you have not ever said you are leasing the western star semi I was just curious about that aspect of your job and if you were leasing your own semi truck you could park your truck in front of your house instead of in the yard and the dispatch would notify you of your loads instead of going to the dispatch office to pick up the paperwork for your loads they could be faxed to your house then you could get on the road quicker

Hi there. I did what you are doing now for well over 20 years. I am retired now. I started in the late 60s and retired in the late 90s. The thing that impresses me the most is the way the equipment has changed over the years. We didn't have power steering back then. Nor did we have air ride. They inside of the tractors is so much nicer now as well. The biggest thing is we didn't have a lot of women in the industry then as you do now. I wish you much success and happy trails as you drive down the road of life.

The casino in downtown Winnemucca, Nevada on the main street has a wonderful chef in the restaurant. The corn chowder was delicious beyond words. They also make a fabulous breakfast.
One thing you can say about most casinos is; not only do most of them have overnight parking for 18 wheelers but they also have 24 hour restaurants which allow you to have breakfast, lunch or dinner at any hour.

I think what your doing is wonderful and a true testimony in having pride in what you do professionally. As a young kid and I can remember back that far, trucking was a profession I seriously considered, yet for whatever reason, it never happened. Today the industry has changed dramatically, with the increased size of tractor/trailer setups and the movement of product throughout the country. It’s a crazy time in this world with the pandemic, but with it, comes time to reflect on all of us working together. Your a mentor personified and I have no doubt you will be an inspiration to many in the years to come. I never had any of my own kids, yet if I had, you would of been the perfect daughter. Be safe, continue to be happy and give your road companion a scratch on on the neck. Cheers and I’m hooked on your travels. 😉

This is so awesome, a lot of people think the life of a trucker is all glamour, but it is not. Truckers have to calculate their hours and find the balance between rolling and stopping (teams is even more difficult). I had to keep track of my hours and since I worked two jobs, it is up to the driver to keep the paperwork straight and you know you are going to get pulled in at least once a month. I loved the upbeat music, keep vlogging. Stay safe young lassy.

First, I want to say I really respect what you are doing and think it is awesome you are sharing your experience.
I started in the industry as a flatbed driver 7 years ago and after a year became a specialized truck driver in the heavy haul side. I fell in love with the industry and what I do. Eventually I took a management position at my company and now I manage the equipment I drove and still drive from time to time. I also manage other heavy equipment.
My company like the rest of the trucking world struggles to get good drivers (also young drivers). I I have a hard time coming to grips with that because of how I feel about being a driver. I started to take our trucks into the community so kids can “touch a truck” and learn about what we do. During a tour of our facility, I had an opportunity to speak to some high school students. The group was mostly made up of girls. I expressed how the industry’s demographic is changing and women are part of that change! From the videos I’ve watched of yours, you will be a great asset to the industry and the recruitment of young women and other drivers. The professionalism behind your videos and style shows that trucking can be an exciting and adventurous career. Thank you for shining some good light on a passion of mine.
I would love to connect and hear more of your thoughts, but if not keep on truckin’ and stay safe!
