    I'm 6'3 and I drove one last week. I don't think I can get it in a stick unfortunately, even though the steering wheel couldn't be much smaller. I drove an auto and honestly, it's not bad at all. I prefer stick shift to be honest, but the auto I drove on a test drive provided more than enough excitement for me. The dealer was so cool and let me really push the car as much as I would any car I owned on the street.

    Gonna test drive one when my local dealer gets some in. For those hating on the lack of turbo. There is tons of aftermarket turbo support for scions non sport models so I'm sure we'll see kits available soon. Which I like keeps insurance rates down

    lol.. they did the Mustang GT "sound tube" trick. I thought it was a pretty cheesy idea until I got my 5.0 GT. It's nice to be able to hear your engine in a modern car with all that sound insulation.

    I don't know what people are complaining about. Its a cool looking car with great handling, a simple practical interior, 6 speed manual and a low price. "oh no it doesn't have power!" Calm down ok. There'll be a cheap turbo kit out for it in no time. It sure beats the hell out of the Miata (especially looks wise) and if its good enough for Chris Harris, its sure as hell good enough for me.

    The FR-S is a hell of a good car. I own one since it came out and its been fun like crazy. People complaining about the 200hp. Well its light and its quick. 6speed. Handling is amazing, sticks to corners like glue, I live in a place were its all curves and mountain area (Puerto Rico) and this car just flys threw the curves. Now people comparing the Genesis to this, well for those of you that don't know, they compared the FR-S and Genesis side by side, and on a circuit race the FR-S lost by only

    most definitly it will be tuner friendly. greddy is developing a turbo kit for the frs but it will likely be interchangable due to having the same engine. they also have suspension upgrades available. other tuning companies are also developing tuning products.

  • @wordlyfe

    Yeah, and good luck finding one for that. I test drove one that was $25,300 (white paint was the only option) and I felt lucky to find one that cheap. A lot of dealers are finding a way to mark these up above 28k without adding much (and basically violating Scion's no-haggle pricing policy). I liked the car but I didn't buy it. It handles very well and its surprisingly comfortable but there is zero body roll and with the linear power band there is no sensation of speed. Its almost too good.

    I know they are designed for different purposes, the Z is like a japanese muscle car and the BRZ/FRS is like a drivers/tuner car. I was simply comparing what you get for the price and not strictly just performance. A used 2008 350Z can be had around 20k with less than 20,000 miles with fully loaded options like leather seats and navigation if you fancy that crap and 300 horsepower to play with and a huge aftermarket following since it's been around longer.

    Don't knock Hyundai too much, they have gotten there shit together, and are doing a pretty damn good job. The FR-S/GT86/BRZ do look like some damn fun cars on the track, of course the Genesis looks like a hell of a lot of fun on the track too. That being said these cars really are made for the track. Hyundai does not have much of a racing heritage, but they did dominate scca rally in the 2000's with a awd custom tiburon (like 7 championships).
    Cheers!

    last weekend I took my toyota car to do oil and was hoping to see the FR-S in the lot, but it was nowhere to be found. I talked to the seller guy, he said this car is going on sale fast. So to get one, you have pre-order it. He said that the next one is coming but already has people waiting for it so you won't be able to see it parking on the lot.

    from wikipedia about FA20 engine
    A version with direct fuel injection and twin-scroll turbocharger has been introduced in 2012 to the Japanese market for the Legacy GT DIT.
    Bore: 86 mm
    Stroke: 86 mm
    Displacement: 1,998 cc
    Compression Ratio: 10.6:1
    Power: 300 PS (221 kW; 296 hp) at 5,600 RPM
    Torque: 40.8 kg·m (400 N·m; 295 lb·ft) at 2,000-4,800 RPM

    MotorTrend recently did a big comparison involving both the Scion FR-S (and the Subaru BRZ) and the Hyundai Genesis. They also compared them against the Mazda Miata, VW Golf, and Ford Mustang V6.
    The Genesis came dead last, and the FR-S was 2nd best; the Subaru was number 1.
    You should go for the FR-S!

    Not just my opinion, Ive never driven one. In every single video Ive watched about this car, the driver talks about how joyful it is to drive. It almost makes me think that theyve been paid to say it -_- hmm... With that, it may be somewhat slow for a modern sports car, but im sure it can be settled for on public roads. Plus its not just that it slides easily. Its impeccably balanced, lightweight, and responsive.

    The FR-S and it's two sibling cars are sweet for the cash and they are going to turn into tuner favorites. Keep an eye out for the Hyundai Veloster Turbo it will have 200+ HP and weigh less, but it's a hot hatch that will give the FR-S a run for the money.

  • @DriftEJ20

    In terms of turbo kits, the only thing you might have to worry about is being limited by that 12.5/1 compression ratio!

  • @xdbuix
    @xdbuix 12 років тому

    yeah it is better on the brz, but the thing about this model is, its suppose to be stripped down. The vp of scion even said it purposely stripped down because the brand, scion, is made for ppl who want to upgrade the car.
    That's pretty much applies to all of the scion brand.

  • @lophilip
    @lophilip 12 років тому

    It might, but the space looks a bit tight. A bigger concern is the direct injection engine. There is no way yet to reprogram the stock ECU and there is not a lot of options for aftermarket standalone that can do direct injection.
    That being said this is probably the best car I've driven handling wise. I would not want a turbo on this car because it would just ruin the driving experience.

  • @hartsickdisciple
    @hartsickdisciple 12 років тому

    First of all, smaller engines do not always get better gas mileage. In fact, a larger engine loping along at a lower RPM will often get better mileage than a smaller one that has to work twice as hard to move the car. Secondly, there is a Veloster Turbo coming out within the next couple of months. It will have about 200hp and is supposed to get 36-38mpg highway. It will be front-wheel drive, however. The RWD layout of the FR-S puts it in a different league.

  • @xdbuix

    its for ppl who trick out their cars and for younger kids. I dont see too many old people driving tcs. Basically its two things you get out of this, affordability and customization. Compared to the limited brz (which i really like as well), its just a cheaper alternative, thats all.
    But in the end, the brz=frs. It's basically the same car just with minor differences here and there.

    I've always loved my Subaru and I would agree with what you're saying. Scion is still made by the legendary car manufacturer Toyota, and I'm quite surprised Fuji Heavy Industries and Toyota Industries came together to make a really great looking car. It'll be nice to hear driver reviews about both in the future.

    You can get the same MPG with manual or even better, its just the way the EPA does it's tests. They assume the average consumer will be shifting at high revs and not using neutral to coast to a stop. If you shift at very low rpm, do long coasts in neutral, and skip gears by shifting from 1 - 3 - 5, which is pretty much like a 3 speed automatic that most economy cars have, you will get great MPG. I have a WRX and I get 26 MPG city doing this, EPA city rating is like 19 MPG.

    Unless you are full out drag racing, you won't need 200hp in a car that light. Some of us want this car to take corners and NOT do showy drifts in it, it is a pretty good track car when driving grip as well once you put decent rubber on it.

    My reason for buying this car, its a 4 cylinder rwd car with no stupid flashy buttons like most modern cars and my opinion on why its low powered is because its more of a daily driven car plus scion is somewhat like honda's civic when it comes to add-ons and aftermarket parts

    This car has 12.5:1 compression and has to have premium gas without mods. Any kind of noticeable gains with a turbo will require bottom end engine work to lower the compression. This actually makes me happy because it means the people who do want to turbo it are going to do monster builds or nothing at all. If you could bolt on power to this thing my insurance premiums would go through the roof from all of the wannabe racers wrapping them around poles.

    What I just said to you went over your head. I'm talking about a period in time when cars like this were known as Sport Economy cars and how that label turned to Sport Compact and now "Sports Car" to market and sell the car better because the term "Economy car" doesn't sell as well as "Sport Car" when it comes to moving these off the show room floor. Scion is an economy car division of Toyota. They were built to make inexpensive economy cars. The BRZ is no different.
