    About the Podcast:
    BOB SAGET’S HERE FOR YOU is a podcast that is like no other- Because it goes inside Bob’s Saget’s mind, and then quickly filters out through his mouth. Bob has a way of calming people with genuine empathy and humor while they’re going through a difficult time, which we all are at present. Reaching his unusually diverse audience that he talks to as a friend, Bob is the dad with great advice, the irreverent funny guy who’s always there when you need a laugh, and the free-associative Bob who goes off on crazy tangents then returns to the subject at hand, as serious or as comedic as it may be, to wrap up each episode in a way only Bob can do. Because he really does believe, “He’s here for you."

    Listening to Bill Maher talk about not caving in to the demands of the mainstream reminded me of Brene Brown's differentiation between "fitting" and "belonging". When we fit in, we try to conform to other's narrowly defined set of acceptable behaviors or what I call "echo chamber of conformity". We end up walking on eggshells being careful to not deviate the slightest, lest we get ostracized. We ultimately lose our individuality and become knee-jerk "us vs them" ideologues who interact at a superficial level.
    When we belong, we're appreciated and respected for our individuality and give each other a great deal of freedom to express ourselves. We're more inclined to "agree to disagree"and less inclined to shun others for differences. The love among those who belong is more unconditional and deeper than those who fit in. .

    Well, actually, the purpose of the "second opinion" isn't just to get another "opinion" but to see someone who might specialize in your particular affliction. In other words; you have an ailment and so you go to your GP and he, or she, takes some pictures and to them, it looks like you're going to die a slow painful death, to which you ask, "Really Doc? just how familiar are you with this particular disease?" and he, or she, says "Well, actually, I've never seen it before." so, you look at their diploma on the wall and it mentions, "La Universidad de Honduras", and you promptly leave.

      I think you're right. I've been watching Bill since politically incorrect and I think he's lost the thread the past few years. He's talking over guests, ignoring salient positions on things that make him look out of it and in general he's not the cutting edge of political commentary anymore. A podcast would be a good fit for him because his show's format feels forced and rushed.

    • @ja3482
      @ja3482 4 роки тому

      I agree that it's actually kinda nice to hear Bill in non-show mode when he doesn't have to control a panel (and call bull$hit when necessary) and also switch between serious and comedy sections while Live.
      Honestly, though, I think when the studio comes back he won't want to do it. The problem is that he seems to structure his life where he's either working on Real Time stuff, touring with his Standup, and his off-time. Bill thinks American's over-work (which they do), so I think if he added podcasting to his schedule Bill'd probably feel like he was cutting into his life balance while risking overexposure.

    • @ja3482
      @ja3482 4 роки тому

      @@honuman39 It has to be unimaginably taxing to host that show Live, though. Especially when you consider that I've seen - like - 50 different shows have tried to mimic his format and then immediately crashed and burned because their hosts found out (the hard way) that controlling a panel in a political-comedy show takes a special talent that Bill has and they don't.
      Anyway, I partly agree with you but it seems like fatigue from the show is wearing him down. I see him letting more hack pundits on the show and then not calling them on their bull$hit as much as he used to.
      He might also be a little more careful since House-Gate so that may be dulling his willingness to push things. I also suspect he's been creeping toward trying to be more "legitimate" ever since he finally got his Obama interview.

    • @honuman39
      @honuman39 4 роки тому

      @@ja3482 not sure about the legitimate part. He's carved out a renegade voice in the media and has plenty of money. I don't think he could be seen as establishment except that he does push back on progressive positions that he used to champion. He's older. The show definitely wears him out but I think he's falling into a grumpy old man thing. He wants recognition for having had progressive positions on a high profile media platform for decades and now the yutes are actually in the streets fighting for progressive beliefs because their lives depend on it and I think he resents the credibility of that.

    Bill’s not totally wrong, the immune system is a critical element in the prevention and treatment of disease, especially going forward. However, to quote a truism ‘A little knowledge is a dangerously thing’. The immune system sometimes needs a little help. Medicines taking appropriately are arguably among the greatest inventions of mankind. I hate to say it, because I like both of these guys, but their views on medicine is the greatest piece of BS I’ve heard in a long time. They speak some truth intermingled with a large dose of ill informed utter nonsense. Always a good strategy to sounding credible, but unfortunately it can be quite dangerous for the desperate and the gullible.

      Well, I think Bill knows that medicine is important, but he was trying to focus on pushing back against the crowd that sees any hint of comments regarding personal fitness as "fat shaming."
      If he didn't think that modern medicine was critical, for example, he wouldn't also comment about how we're basically destroying it (modern medicine) by threatening the viability of our antibiotics through overuse in the meat industry.
      Of course, these two issues dovetail in that eating less meat (and more veg') in your diet will also help improve vascular health.

    I really love Bill Maher as a politic commentator. He sees the big picture and knows how to communicate his ideas with wit and intelligence. Not sure he should talk so much about health issues. He is right about eating habits, but garlic and vitamins for covid19? Also, we know the causes of cancer and many other diseases, but this doesn't necessarily mean we know how to cure them.

    • @ja3482
      @ja3482 4 роки тому +5

      Bill is right about garlic, though.
      Having fresh garlic in your diet is actually a great idea for both general health and specifically for possible COVID infections. The reason is that it's an excellent natural anti-inflammatory (diallyl disulfide) due to specific compounds within fresh garlic.
      On top of being good for long- and short-term joint health, anti-inflammatories are also great for vascular health. So...
      Since the latest research suggests that COVID is actually a vascular disease, it's actually a good idea for everyone to eat food that has natural anti-inflammatory compounds. If you start eating garlic and catch the 'Rona, you'll be in a better position to recover than if you didn't. If you start eating more garlic but don't catch 'Rona, you'll still probably live longer and feel better otherwise. Win/Win.
      Other vegetables that contain diallyl disulfide are onions and leeks.
      Personally, I opt to eat a lot of onions.

      @@littlebigcommentary I agree. Could have been a good conversation that I'm sure would have positively been set up by Bill. Which I think most people would have dug. Apparently next week Maher will be back in the studio. Missed opportunity. They definitely agree in promoting health and the calling out the Draconian vibe in California.

    I usually like Bill Maher, but I have one thing to say to him. Billy boy you are not a doctor, and good on you that you're taking all your vitamins and eating right. But taking the anti-vaxxer stance is just feeding this extremely dangerous anti-science mythology that is so prevalent these days. Stick to satire and comedy. Just because you're skinny and in reasonable shape is no safe guard against this terrible scourge.

    Does he really not get it that poor people have almost zero chance to take care of their health and immune system. They can't afford quality food, they live in shitty areas with bad air and water quality, they struggle with bunch of mental health issues, many of those related to their living conditions. Want people to get healthier? Change the economic system. And, what the hell he is talking about when he says that Pharma, doctors, big food industries are "traditional" in how they see medical problems, as if they were some benevolent actors who are innocently ignorant of how things work. Pharma doesn't give a shit about our immune system and doesn't want to strengthen it because it wants to make money on drugs. None of them wants to have a healthy population because a healthy population won't need them. Is this not obvious? Does he play dummy or is he really unaware of how life is because he is a fucking millionaire who is completely detached from normal people and their lives?

The only difference, is that you don't know you have it, until it is too late. So all you have to do is assume that everyone is a carrier, and take reasonable precautions while interacting. Comedians have a large role to play - if we are brave enough to overhaul education for all. Sex Ed by a comedian could lighten parts of the message. Your male anatomy jokes would fit right into the shift. We are having the problems and issues we are facing now due to a lack of practical and real Ed (health and science Ed in the face of Covid-19 is just an example - look how fractured we are here. Nature’s health affects our health). Equality and respect is what people want. We just need visions and practical game plans to get us there - from the class to the community. You can’t argue about a clean drink of water right?
