    I actually was 100% going to buy the sentinel strike but as soon as I seen that blade steel I said no I would rather they use nitro v or 14c28n and charge more and I would buy it immediately but not with that steel.

    Totally agree on the whole assisted blade thing not my choice either for the reasons you mentioned plus harder to close. So many great knives out there under the $100 price point. CJRB, Civivi, Kizer, Kubey, Miguron have been on the top of their game giving us amazing value for the build quality and materials you get. The CJRB Pyrite and Kubey Titanium Titius are also great knives that could have been on this list. Have the premium version of the Kizer Escort and it's my favorite cross bar lock that i have ever felt such a great improvement to the design. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.

      Completely agree with the take on assisted knives. Though, my main gripe with them is that they're illegal to carry where I live. I'd love to carry my CRKT ritual because it's such a cool and unique knife, but I don't want to get arrested 😅😢

    It took about six or seven months for the omega springs to break on my escort. They broke about three weeks apart so they are built consistently. I love the escort it really is my most carried knife.

    Despite how far companies have come with having smooth manual actions, I still think there is a place for a well done spring assisted action. In fact, my two assisted Kershaws (Tanto Cryo and Turismo that still uses PB washers before they switched the model to using KVT bearings) have a decently smooth action when the speedsafe assist is not engaged (not drop shut, but more hydraulically/glassy smooth). I could see assisted knives being enjoyed as a halfway between a manual knife and an Out the Side auto, however I only like them when they complement a good action as opposed to hiding a bad one (which is why I try to avoid almost any knife with only Teflon washers with few exceptions).

    I love seeing these lists. I'm maintenance over quite a few places. My center drive and arkfeld are dailies and my knives are revolving. I usually carry a sheepsfoot and a wharncliffe. The expensive ones sit or ride with me on off days but I like having many different budget knives that I'm not scared to beat up. And they all come from lists like this.

    I would love to see a video on edge use , day to day and what different steels matter in everyday use. like all steel snobs could use 8cr but can you give us examples of your bias for other steels and why in as practical use as possible. I sharpen and am deep in the knife rabbit hole but I value your opinion .

    Just ordered a cjrb ekko (j1929) based off some research I did this morning. Its been a while since I bought a new knife, and my current knife (a benchmade griptillian) is bad. It belonged to my brother and started life as a serrated blade. It was given to him by his father in law. Apparently the blade got messed up, so my brother ground it down into a tanto style blade, but he never really thinned the blade profile out to compensate for all the edge that got ground off. I need a good knife that will hold somewhat of an edge for me, all day long.. so figured it was perfect combo of ratty knife, but decent blade steel for holding an edge (154cm.) Unfortunately the blade is kind of short now though, as if it wasnt already short enough. I started carrying a benchmade sbk5000, but its really not ideal for the envornment I am in. I make the shells that they pour the liquid metal into for castings, and its incredibly sandy in there and clogs up the mechanisms. This brings me to my current arrangement, my benchmade sbk is getting beat up and I need something to replace it with. I have gone to a boker fixed blade, in a kydex holster/sheeth for my work setup, and purchased the CJRB for my daily (outside of work) knife. Appreciate you taking the time to review these knives for us! It was incredibly helpful when trying to pick one out! Ill report back when it arrives and tell you all about how awesome it is!

    I personally would have to put the Kizer Assassin XL on this list. Still don't think Kizer has topped that as far as button locks go. I'm hoping KnifeCenter or someone does an exclusive with Civivi for that Sentinel Strike so we can get some better steel; the only option right now is their Damascus, which is actually not bad, but only paired with some fairly ugly light green aluminum scales.

  • @lleach7
    @lleach7 5 місяців тому

    He should start with the criteria he is applying across the knives. I’ve started a collection to determine what criteria matter to me. They have changed with using alternative designs.
    I at first thought steel was most important. No longer. Steel is a discriminator but for most uses budget steel such as D2 or 8C12Cr are fine. I have Nitro V, S35VN, and Magnacut. But they do not make the knife work better.
    Blade shape may matter for your purpose.
    Handle size and shape matter.
    Opening method matters. I have come to much prefer thumb flipper. Assisted.
    Closing matters. Button or axis lock much better than liner or frame lock because you close with one hand.
    The clip matters a little. It should go up to the end of the handle and not protrude to catch on pocket.
    Several of his knives do not work for me.
