I forget which movie plot introduced me to this paradox but it's definitely a paradox in which people often feel VERY strongly about in one way or the other. 😀😩
6 degrees of separation through books, I feel the principles are what connect everything in life. I’m currently working on reading & grasping the Bible, Think & Grow Rich. If you haven’t already read A Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown, I highly recommend this read; it was a transparent autobiography that I couldn’t put down. We are always evolving, I had the dying to self epiphany last week. Releasing the version of myself who isn’t equipped to continue with me on the journey I’m on; appreciating who I was then but knowing “she’s” not built for what I’m about to face. We have so many layers that serve a specific purpose for where we our in those moments. Beautifully spoken Joseph, I appreciate you sharing your journey.
Chiiiilllleeee, now that I've fallen in love with audiobooks I can actually join you on this journey of 75 books a year!!! 📚🥳 🗣️ Special shout-out to my local Library and Chirp Audiobooks for HOLDING ME & MY BUDGET DOWN with FREE/DEEPLY discounted audiobooks!!!🙌🏾🙏🏾
I like this series (hopefully)💚 Yes to books, books, books. It took me forever to get through "On Earth, we're briefly gorgeous" as well. So much beautiful, complicated writing, but a bit drawn out if the format isn't poetry.
What you said about every book being connected is so true, I have read a lot of self-development books and when I started reading “Atomic Habits” I couldn't finish it, it is an interesting book but you can guess the end in the first few chapters, it's like the book starting with the conclusion kinda book
Profoundly insightful video and such refreshingly honest reviews of the books you've read thus far.I love reading but wouldn't say I am an avid reader, lol.I used to read about 5 books simultaneously and came to the painful realization that what I was doing wasn't really pragmatic cause I couldn't even finish one book.I am currently reading a fiction novel at the moment and rupi kaur in between to kinda give my brain a breather.Love these recs and can't wait to see how many books I get to read this year ,hopefully 10 lol.that's the target for now .Your videos my G,bingeworthy man.Much appreciated for the content you put out there for our consumption.Love from SA bhudda!!!!
I am also reading Atomic Habits doing the opposite though have the physical copy doing a refresher for the new year through the audio book such a great book! Along side Mastery by Robert Greene thick book but great content. The Alchemist was my intro to start reading more fiction the concepts you mentioned here about myth is something I think I took to that book. Which I believe allowed it to resonate with so many including myself. Great list of books definitely gonna check out a few of those you mentioned here!
Hey Joe! I am a fan I’ve been following you since PIA. But I wanted to commend you on your journey and figuring out this thing called life. I wanted to know if you had any recommendations on books/speakers that really break down the human dynamic of our relationship with God? Also can’t wait for the new music! Your voice is amazing! 💜💜💜
Hey! When I read Indaba My Children by Credo Mutwa. I'm from South 🇿🇦 Africa, and this book answered so many questions regarding creation from an African perspective. Its provoking and so much unlearning might take place.
As a book lover, this video excites me. I can’t wait to hear your reflections at the end of the year. I think I read the Alchemist at the “right” time in my life. I cried when I finished the book. It’s a really simple story but I think it resonated with me because I was reminded to continue pursuing my dreams regardless of the obstacles I faced at that time. Also… I started Transcendent Kingdom but it went back on my bookshelf. Have you heard of Yaa Gyasi’s first novel? Homegoing was one of the best stories I read in 2020 (I think it was that year). I just finished Atomic Habits… you’re right it’s so good. I want to read it again at a later date so I can continue to apply the practices.
I read 75 a year as well. I used to have/meet a goal of 100, but it was stressing me out trying to keep up with the past couple of years. Hard to read when you keep falling asleep and dropping the book on your face. 😂
i started reading transcendent kingdom early 2021 and every time i've picked up the book, i can't seem to get past the first handful of chapters.she's such a descriptive writer. i love and hate that about her. the words resonate so much and hit close to home. i don't doubt that it's a great read and i'm missing out on the experience (lol). also her last name is pronounced "jeh-see" similar to "jessie" but with more umfph on the "jeh."
It hit so close to home for me I started using the book as a journaling prompt. I got emotional a lot reading the book. Maybe you’ll pick it back up if/when you’re meant to ❤
Interesting books selection, I added some in my wish list. I've got two you may find interesting to read. The 1st's an autobiographical book. It's called "Maybe I Don't Belong Here: A Memoir of Race, Identity, Breakdown and Recovery" by David Harewood. The author processes and talks about his experiences and personal exploration of the duality of growing up as an educated Black and British person in the racist British system and how he recovered from a mental breakdown that got him institutionalized in a Mental Health Act. The 2nd's a fictional orientalism book called "Alamut" by Slovenian author Vladimir Bartol. It's about a Ismaili self proclaimed prophet who plans to create a paradise on Earth. Here nothing will be real, so everything will be permitted. His followers will have their wish of living met with no guilt, in exchange of taking others lives and their own if necessary. It really shows how much it takes to obtain what you want by manipulating and perverting religion, decieving and presenting ppl to pleasure and selfish desires. Since it was published in 1938 it portraits dictator Mussolini's ideologies at the time and modern terrorism in general. It's a great historical and philosophical book which also inspired the making of the "Assassin's Creed" video game. If you got a P.O. box I can send you the books if you want
Beautiful... too much to unpack in one session but wow, 75. I really thought the 30 mins rule applied to writing only, didn't realise this applied to reading too, brilliant! Oh and yep agree, wine is cool (casually, moderately). I know some really love it with cheese but as a combo, not so sure how great it is on the stomach. 😅 Definitely helpful but I won't put pressure on myself. I live a very different life now, so I tend to read topic specific articles, commentaries and some books and they're quite unrelated too, so... I'll probably disagree with you on finding common themes in all books. I do agree that interest is subjective. Atm. consider myself an avid Podcast listener - an array of channels, very interesting ones too but... My Books 📚 to complete include: *The Language of God *Vitman D. Solution *The Dawkins Delusion and Thanks for sharing yours with us and Tc Joe!
Joe, do you use goodreads or story graph or equivalent to track your reading on? Would love to follow you some place to stay up to date with what you're reading throughout the year and continue to get recommendations :)
when you had rock bottom moments, did you have love around you or did you have everyone giving hate, not loving you? i was at the point as wel, but i had a empty shell because of the people that hurted me. I don't think if you grew up in love that you were in a better place compared to someone who didn't have that shitty type of environment. no shade if there is shade, im sorry ahead
i forgot to put it in the video lol but the paradox is called the "ship of theseus paradox"

WandaVision? lol
