I have had a Sn Martin CuSn8 Bronze.Model SN040-Q model on my wrist for 21 days now with a loss of 30 seconds in that period. I'm very happy with it.
There is never enough PT5000 content. It's quite interesting to compare it against NH35 since they both kinda fill the same niche, both having their own advantages. To me there is no clear winner yet.

My San Martin with PT5000 is losing 2sec a day. I find the higher beat movement of the seconds hand way fancier, so I would take a PT5000 over an NH-35 any day.
My San Martin 382 Series runs at +5 sec per day max. A fabulous movement!
My new San Martin Vintage diver loses 25 secs a day. Yep, these NH-35s can be hit or miss.

I only have one watch with a PT5000 inside, and the last time I wore it was for four days in a row and at the end of that it was +1s. Not bad for a $120 CAD watch! Just ordered another watch with the same movement...

my main concern with PT5000 is the limited running time. 38 hours is a bit short. It would have a strong advantage with 48+
38 hours is the same as the Swiss movements their cloning, what do you expect at the price they are charging

I think it's bcos high beat movements use up juice faster
I like how the hands move smoother on the pt5000 than the nh35
my San Martin PT5000 movement 0 seconds deviation in some positions and + 1 in others ,amazing to say the least,but my nh 35 movements are not bad at all with deviations of 3 seconds a day,I service my own movements I do it in 3 in 3 years,very happy with both movements but I understand I have been lucky with my movements.
Hi Alex, have you tried modding a watch with the PT5000? Do you know if the movement works as a direct swap for an NH35 when it comes to dials and hands?
I don't understand why there are so many Seiko watches in this video. I love the NH 35 movement too and have a bunch of watches with that movement, but the PT5000 seems to be aimed at the ETA 2824 market. That aside, I appreciate you going in depth on the movements, I enjoy getting all the information and have enjoyed your reviews and subscribed.

I have a Sea-gull Ocean Star with the 2130 28800bph movement.
Plus 10 seconds a day.
Longevity of all the Seagull movements I have is very good.
I have St5, St5d movements from the 1970s and 1980sand a 25 jewel automatic day date from 1985 which is still working with daily wearing and no servicing.

I would imagine this movement is every bit as good as the ETA or Sellita....of course that’s just me imagining though. I’ve stripped a Sellita movement by getting a little wind happy with it too often. I’ve got so damn many NH35 movements now that I can back up just about any that might go out. I really wanna try one of these though. Good info man, thanks for the video!
Yeh from what hamtun are saying they tested 100s of them against the Selitta and ETA and most of them out performed them two by accuracy and reliability...its nice to have a change from the nh35 but within similar price range
I've been wary of getting a PT5000, I have a handful of the Swiss movements 1 ETA the others Sellita and they all run within COSC tolerance on wrist and measure better -2/+2 I've regulated one myself which gained around 5 secs per day out of the box. That's a pretty decent average. Given the ease of regulation tho' I'm coming round to the idea of trying out a PT5000. If I was capable of stripping the movement down, cleaning and reassembly I would already have some. I'd like to see Seiko bring out a hi-beat equivalent to the NH35A, If they did one as reliable as the NH35A it would sell like hotcakes!

I've read many comments and seen videos where the PT5000 was criticised for being "tight" or difficult to wind, the rotor spinning when wound rather than indicating that it's fully wound. Also foreign objects (dust and skin particles present in the movement. I stress this is only hearsay but given the long shipping times, (let's face it even a week is a long time when you're waiting for your new watch to arrive) I've not had the confidence in the PT5000 to choose it over an ETA or Sellita. I have several of the Swiss movements and all are within COSC tolerance in daily wear, even over extended periods (longer than 10 days) My buddy also received a DOA PT5000 in a San Martin, further increasing my lack of confidence in the movement. I know that I should really buy one and get some first hand experience but when the SW200 or ETA 2824 option is £100 ish more and I do have confidence in those, I haven't yet been able to talk myself out of going with a Swiss movement.
Good to know that at this price a new movement is becoming available. NH35 is a good movement but it's becoming tired and boring, and it's just everywhere from watches starting at 60$ up to 1k$
Could say the same for ETA 2824 clones, found in watches from £250 to £40,000+ I have several of both, don't think there's much between them in terms of accuracy but the smoother sweep seconds hand is nice. I'd like to see Seiko make a hi-beat movement that's affordable and as robust and reliable as the NH35A.
@@oktc68 They did.....way back in 1969. I own a Seiko Hi-beat that was made in Jan 1969 . Still keeps good time. It was known as the King Seiko(made prior to Grand Seiko). Seiko sent thousands to be chronometer certified, but the Swiss were so afraid of how well they ran that they only certified a few hundred. Mine is one of the "non-certified" .

Provided that reliability is not a problem and accuracy meets or exceeds the plus or minus 12 seconds a day, the PT5000 wins by having a bi directional rotor and adjustment screw.

NH35 is the absolute king imo. Reliability, accuracy, cost , robustness. Hands out maybe the best movement out there. Granted I don't know about all the other watches out there but I have had 0 issues to date. People may disagree but I think it's so solid.

Just bought a Cronos type b Flieger with this movement in. Seems very accurate so far and quite precise between positions. Fortunately the watch dial is sterile (no name or logo) which suits me as not a fan of the name but cronos seem to make superb watches. Thanks for the review of the movement, very informative!
I am currently waiting for my Hamtun with the PT5000 movement. If the PT5000 is as good and reliable as they claim it is, it is a game changer. If the movement exceeds the plus or minus 12 seconds a day, it would be as accurate or even more accurate than my base ETA 2824 movement and Miyota 9015 watches. No more single direction Miyota rotor. If they manufacture a chronometer grade model and charge a bit extra, ETA, the Swiss clones and even Miyota would be left in the dust.
There are 5 grades of the SW200 and possibly the same with ETA, however all mine (ETA & Sellita) run within COSC tolerance. If you're aren't they are so, so easy to regulate yourself. Download a timegrapher app for your mobile, and the adjustment is achieved by turning a tiny screw, it's really easy, for the small amount you'd need to adjust it, an ⅛ to a ¼ of a turn should be somewhere close. It's immensely satisfying to get your movement running well.

I had to return my San Martin bronze pilot watch with the PT5000. It has rotor spin when winding the watch right out of the box. I was very disappointed but at least San Martin replaced it no problems. I ended asking for the bronze turtle instead and love it.
Reverser wheels not lubricated properly, a common problem with ETA 2824-2.
Same problem for me with a sw200 and to a lesser extent a pt5000 based San Martin. Two for two from San Martin now. I’m not going to buy another. Unfortunately couldn’t get a local watchmaker willing to do the minor repair and only found one shop that sends mechanical watches away and start at £180 for any work.
That's quite poor from San martin to be honest. This kind of feedback needs to be up there aswell so consumers can get a better outlook on what actually happens. Sometimes though you know, shit ends up making its way through to the end user. I get my fair share of poor QC from steeldive and heimdallr. None off san martin yet
@@TheWatcherReviews the problem is the cost of returning all the way to China and the time it takes now. Along with being charged Vat and handling all over again when it returns even if marked as a return from repair. FedEx say you need some special customs docs filled out before sending items back for repair. You’d think the proof you posted a watch a few weeks before to the address it was returned from would be enough but no.

A helpful and factual overview. I wonder how a San Martin Turtle/ Willard would be with at PT5000. Would be nice to see an 8 second sweep. Has anyone tried swapping with an NH35? Would it fit/ is it possible?

I have a Heimdallr Captain Willard with the ETA 2824 movement, it's a more period looking piece without garish AR coating on the crystal dome and an aluminium bezel insert. Very consistent +2/3 secs per day. I love it, the smoother sweep seconds hand looks great on any watch. Heimdallr also do the MM 300 with the same movement (both difficult to find, try Goodluck01 Store AliExpress) Apparently neither the ETA or Sellita do well if handwound, and if you have to handwind it's best done as gently as possible, not had any issues with mine tho'.

Proxima do actually put each one on a time graph and send the pictures to the buyer. The dry movment is an issue with the movement. I have a few and have had no issues. My Proxima is + 2 second a day. The other 2 are under 5 which is excellent compared to the NH 35
Thats exactly right howard. It seems proxima are the only ones that try and screen their movements to a degree. Wonder if SM does it but doesnt show the pics

I have the Hroudland pilot watch it has the stseagallpt2130, good high beat movement, the Bronze has a choice of st5000, ot sw200
I recently purchased a used San Martin 006-G2 with the PT5000 and managed to regulate it down to -0.25 seconds per day and its very nice. In fact it runs better than my COSC certified ETA 2836 in a Christopher Ward. I've always been interested in the Miyota 9015 but im not sure if they are bi-directional winding? I know the 8000 series are not bi-directional which is what causes the rotor spin noise which im not a fan of...
There's still some rotor whirr on the 9015

Btw, in Wempe (German manufacturer) the last e is pronounced not as the typical English eee but sounds like a as in „along“. You came a-long. Not eylong or aylong but a-long. So Wemp-e. Porsche ( Porsh-e). Just said ;).
The 'w' is pronounced like a 'v', I believe (from my high school german, almost 50 years ago!) Correct me if things have changed since then.
For the price, I would always prefer an NH35. Super cheap & extremely reliable, what more can you ask for in an affordable watch?
The NH movement are good time keepers, but once you put them on a time grapher, the dots aren't as nice and close together as you want them to be.

Very cool movement isn't it.. Expect it will get more and more play in the factory and micro brands the coming years - if the price is kept right and the market gets moving again. Hope to score that other fine San Martin this year the SN059 ^^

I have a Cronos sub homage with the pt5000 movement. Wearing the watch 24 7's it's fast about 2 minutes a month. Have to keep resetting the time. Not tolerable. I wore a Rolex for 30 years, but stopped when their prices went ridiculous. Here comes my Duro quartz.

I guess I must've received a semi-lemon then. Cronos Subbie, PT5000 and the accuracy is a bit all over the place. Dial up it's at around +8 to +9s/d, but in other positions this goes up to +24s/d. These are observational results, logged with the WatchCheck app. On the time-grapher, I'm getting similar performance with amplitude and beat error looking good to very good. But the accuracy overall is probably out of the promised +/- 12s/d range. Perhaps the watch was magnetized in transport, but I will definitely take it to my local watchmaker to have it checked and re-regulated. Or, if he finds something fundamentally wrong with the movement, I'll have to contact Cronos - who are supposedly pretty good when it comes to honoring their warranty.
Well it could have the poor oiling issue from factory, the winding is pretty torque-y and you get rotor spin when it winds.
Deffo try to demag it 1st.
My titanium san martin pt5000 is broke. Hand winding is winding rota and the hands are miss aligned. Do you know anyone who can fix it ?
I have this movement in a Geckota watch, and am considering Hruodland with one as well. You only have to put it on a timegrapher to see how well it performs. Whilst the NH35 is a decent work horse, this movement is leagues better.. I am considering a Hroudland Aquatimer, what do you think?
For me, the Hroudland is slightly over priced. Well not slightly, quite over priced. I think they maybe considering a price reduction very soon

Good video. I think well of the PT500. How is the time keeping from that SARB017? Mine is sad I have an 80's Seiko5 with a never serviced 7009 that keeps better time. Like 5 minutes a month vs. 5 minutes a week. Man I love that Seik5 .
They messed up with the sarb017. There's issues with the 6r15, something to do with the amplitude. They added an additional 10hrs of power reserve but tried to even out the way the reserve is used in relation to time keeping. My sarb isn't as accurate as my nh35/36s

I would doubt that parts will interchange with the ETA or Selita, not had a PT5000 apart so cannot be 100% certain.
a reliable movement out of the box is dependent on how well the movement has been assembled and lubricated plus you need a clean environment during assembly.
Most Asian clones are to some extent interchangeable .Only the asian 7750 has a major problem with interchangeability
First say 'Glass' and then an 'H' like in 'Hotel' , an 'U' like in 'Urkel' , then the double "TT' , like in 'hat' , and finally the 'E' Like in ' Eeeeeeeh ? " But not that long, just the one 'e' . Hope this helps a bit . And whatever you do, stay away from the 'SH' sound like in 'fish' . About the movement ; if the pt5000 is that good , why do people still pay more for a swiss made ? Are they still even swiss made ?

Great video. I know this video has been out a while now. Do you still have any Pt5000 watches? How do you find the longevity and experience with them now?
I have got a couple of pt5000 and ive had them arriving regularly. I think out the factory their consistency varies, while quite accurate they have winding issues due to poor oiling n assembly environment, which is expected. I have had some exceptional examples at the same time where the movements seem to be hand picked and regulated. Then they function really well. Their date Mechanical is quite fragile so don't change date between 9pm to 3am as just doing it once it will damage the wheel
Thanks for your super quick reply. I really like the look of the SN008 from San Martin with the PT5000 movement but puts me off hearing about winding issues. Frustrating when paying nearly £300 for a watch and then having to send back to SM when you don’t know how good their customer service is.
@@jamescarter7663 Proxima regulate their pt5000 movements and have no issues with them. I have had a couple of issues with san martin pt5000 where the winding is a little harder and i have had 1 rotor spin while winding

Does the PT5000 have the same hand hole sizes as the 2824? That is, if you had an old 2824 that needed an expensive maintenance, could you just replace it with a PT5000?

Just bought a Cronos L6001 with the PT5000 movement, Less than two weeks in and the manual wind mechanism has failed feels like stripped gears.
It’s been rumored that cronos is using a clone of the pt5000!! Yes clone of a clone that’s been shown that the cronos movements are much dirtier and not as well put together as the HKT real movements!
The majority of reported issues with the PT5000 from a customer perspective as mentioned in comments responding to numerous reviews of watches containing this movement is with the crown/crown stem, the winding mechanism and really loose wobbly rotors. There is a lot of love and hate re these movements, wherever the watches containing them hail from. It's pot luck whether you get a good one or a crap one. Q.C. seems to be a bit inconsistent. I personally haven't owned a timepiece with a PT5000. Long term reliability is also questionable. I am considering a San Martin BB58 with a PT5000, but am in two minds. I would feel much 'safer' with a tried and trusted NH35 to be honest. They are robust, easy to regulate and have a long history of reliability behind them. I have quite a few watches with these in them and have had absolutely no issues whatsoever. What more do you need from the motor in your watch? (apart from a Powermatic 80!)

I would not personally buy anything with a Chinese movement. They can’t even make rubber dog crap without screwing it up.

Thanks for sharing.......I have several Seagull ST2130 s Movements that I have purchased to build watches with. I need pick up a few more tools before I do so. I have watches with SW200 - the 8 beats per second, makes a smoother more refined watch and is more enjoyable to look at. Sorry to bash, but I do not see all the excitement in the NH35.....I have had several and a few have failed, maybe because they were a lower grade?...They were in non-Seiko watches.....For that reason, I am not impressed.
So my rational for rating them as one of the best movements around is simple. The movement sells for around £20 and my entire collection has this movement apart from my quartz pieces and 6r15 (still a derivative). I have also bought watches which have been 20 years old and still maintain a timekeeping within 10 seconds and the average between all my watches is 10 secs. Ive been through over 150 watches using this movement and have only experienced 1 failure (recently, a steeldive was dead on arrival) i do think the nh35 is unbeatable considering its overall reliability vs price. Plus the fact that so many microbrands/chinese brands also use it. You've also got to rate the ingenuity Seiko used within these movements so make them so robust. Their shock absorption qualities are amazing too.

I purchased a cronos sub homage with the pt5000 and now returning it. After 10 days it started losing more and more time, the issue started to show when picking up the watch after the night off the wrist but now it loses minutes a day! Have to mention that the crown action when winding has always been very stiff, perhaps that is related with the watch losing su much. Not sure if I should try the odds again with this movement.
Thats very interesting, yes ive got a stiff stem movement myself , just waiting to review the watch. I had this movement on a san martin which wasnt stiff and worked fine. Fyi the watch i need to review is the cronos sub so bit worried now lol
@@TheWatcherReviews reading a comment on reddit I found out pt5000 movement should snap the date change at midnight and the Cronos I have doesn't. Well at least it doesn't now, mayb wit did the first days, not sure now. Could this cast a doubt about it being a genuine pt5000 or a clone? A clone of a clone, wouldn't it be ironic? BTW the case back is solid and has the odd rolex style closing type, not able to open with standard tools
Yes but it can be opened with those sticky rubber balls. I need to check the date change and see if removing and reinserting the stem will work. I dont think it will be a clone as they're quite cheap, but also cronos assemblers may not have much experience with them if they're sending them out like that

BTW I was fast in saying it doesn't snap at midnight, in fact it's a pretty fast date change anyway since it takes hardly half an hour to change, just checked now. So I guess you are right and it was just an incorrect assembly. But still, should I order again? I'm curious about your experience.

Nh35/36 is a great movement but far as Japanese movements go ill take a miyota 9015 over an nh35 any day.
Agreed (to a certain extent), Rocko! The 9000's get some negative comments from reviewers regarding the infamous 'Miyota rotor wobble noise' when vigorously shaking the watches and immediately placing them close to their ears, but in reality NOBODY does this in a real life situation. I have 3 or 4 watches with these movements and never hear any rotor noise when wearing them. The NH35 is a great, robust and reliable movement too, so I would never knock it. You want your motor to function whenever you start it, and the NH35 does that, as does the M9000. Of course, the ETA Powermatic 80 trumps them all, even if it only runs at 3 Hz. Who looks closely at the second hand to see if it stutters when telling the time???? Wear all of your watches with pride, no matter what's running them.
@@grahamyoung622ive herd people say they get a wobble out of the 9015 rotors. Maybe ive been lucky but ive never experienced this out of any of my 9000 movement watches. Ive had it with cheap watches with 8000 series movements. The worst ive experienced was from a marathon CSAR with the valjoux 7750. It was like wearing a pendulum on my wrist.
But the sellita sw200 is swiss made!! Swiss supposedly aee the best rite??? 🤷♂️

When you say movement, focus on that, dissect it, test it, etc. Forget the watches.

PT5000 i s a crap movement !!!
I have 4 watches with the PT5000 movement and all of them have broken; none have lasted more than a year. I can only conclude that it's pure Chinese junk.
I have a Pagani Design with the NH35 that has been working perfectly for 7 years.
