If you want to be exact, the R32 has a VR6 engine, not a V6. It's important, as without the VR concept, Ferdinand Piech would not have dreamt up the W12 (2x VR6 in a W) and W18 engines and the W16 Bugatti Veyron would never have existed.

But.. with upgraded conrods, pistons, bolts, valves...there are HUNDREDS of vr6 turbo outhere. only in few eastern countries (serbia, bulgaria, hungary, romania) i knew about 50 vr6 turbo conversions from 470bhp to 1600bhp.. 😂

The R32's VR6 is legendary. It is not that superfast but sounds gorgeous, reliable and a real driver's car. Everything else after ~2012 is either luxurious BS or a can.
The glorious R32! The first production car to feature DSG transmission. Match a pair of snails to that engine and you have the only car you will ever need. The sound of the VR6 engine is one of the best sounding of all times

Wel with the golf 4 the gti had its benefits over the r32 the fwd made it lighter and the 1.8 had a turbo so with little mods it was faster and more economical

Unfortunately, many VR6 engines scattered the power downwards. They very rarely had the horsepower that they were supposed to have according to the factory. But I would prefer an R32 to any GTI or Golf R. The sound alone is divine. And he's not slow either. Slower than the newer models, of course. But then a lot would go wrong if the newer models were slower. But the Mk IV R32 is and will always be a legend.
The Mk4 R32 is the best looking, most satisfying 'Golf platform' VW to ever come out! That car exhudes quality through and through! Imagine if VW kept the VR6 and strapped a turbo on it?! Back in late 2002, I purchased a 2003 GTI VR6, not knowing that the R32 was going to be released. If I had known, I would have purchased one! However, after 22 years of ownership, my GTI VR6 is still my daily driver, and still puts a smile on my face! It hasn't had any major mechanical problems, and has been as reliable, if not more, than a Toyota! It still has the original timing chains as well, which blows my mind! When I went to Europe recently, I saw Mk4's everywhere in Greece and Italy! Which for me, doubly attests to the fact that the Mk4's were built like Panzer tanks, unlike the cheap shit junk out now! VW.... take note!

Source: Wikipedia: Dual-Clutch Transmission Porsche developed their own DCT for racing prototypes and Audi later used it in their Audi Sport Quattro S1 everybody knows from Group B rallye. Before that it was used in some British car but it wasn't too reliable as the proper technology for such a complicated gearbox wasn't even available yet (year 1961).
One thing Carwow needs to work on is capturing exhausts on camera...because all the cars sound terrible in the video, but having sold that generation R32...it is indeed one of the best sounding cars ever produced.

If you put the gearbox between Park and Reverse there’s a sweet spot which lets you rev all the wall in the MK7/7.5 but you actually have to hold it there yourself, doesn’t sound great but cancels the soft limiter.
I definitely figured the mk7 gti would pull away top end, still fun to see the Mk4 R32 hold him off in the 1/4 mile. I've been daily driving a mk4 r32 for 5 years now and it's been great, and yes those seats are some of my favorite ever!
R32 modded? With N/A engine? and what an increase? +8Hp and 15 Nm Torgue? No no no, look at the engines specs R32 0-100 6,6 sec. Mk7 GTI 0-100 6,4 sec.
14.7 seconds 1/4 mile time is about right for a MK4 R32, it's not modded. R32 MK4 always launched hard. The 0 to 30mph time was always pretty impressive, that's where the MK4 won the race. And yes in a rolling start you'll see the Mk7 just leaves the MK4 behind, so you can say the MK4 is slow. the MK4 always was fast from standing start 0 to 30 and that's what people misunderstood. In the wet the difference at launch would be even greater
They recently did a Golf R generation race, but 2 of the cars weren't stock (MKV and MKVI) and one of those wasn't an R (MKVI). The MKIV the 7.5 and the 8 were stock.
One of my favorite episodes. I happen to own both cars, my only 2 VWs I've ever oened. I loved my BMP MkIV R32. Yes! The stock seats! But, I have to admit my Mk7.5 GTI feels more nimble. Its probably because less hardware being only FWD and a smaller engine. Still, modding the MkIV R32 was a lot simpler and I enjoy the fact it was before the rev limiter.
I still really miss my Mk V R32. I bought it purely because I heard one drive past me when I was sitting in my previous car (a Mercedes A200 CDI - bleurgh) and it was like a Siren call! The number of times I'd drive through tunnels and through narrow streets with the windows down...Man, it would always bring a smile to my face. Now I have an EV and I'm sad.
The Mk4 '337' special edition GTI was the BEST looking GTI of all time, hands down! That car looked so perfect and so German, you could hear Deutschland's national anthem coming out of the exhaust when it drove by!
The R32 can do 13.8 Seconds in the quarter mile, this probably depends very much on the surface, on the tyres, on their temperature and on the car conditions
Loved the R32 always wanted one, have the previous 2.8 4motion in Bora and Golf, as standard they both sounded like baby lambos, ended up doing stage 1 with remaps, made it quicker but lost that beauty of a sound

The bub engine was used until 2008 on all models containing the 3.2 vr6 engine, until replaced by the cbra engines in 2008

As much as I love the R32 and I'd have one over a modern GTi, the EA888 engine in stock form is a masterpiece.
Porting the EA888 Engine in stock trim on R31GTS-R also a good choice.

The DSG MKIV GOLF R32 was not released in all markets. For example North America only got the 6 speed manual.

The Mk4 '337' special edition GTI was the BEST looking GTI of all time, hands down! That car looked so perfect and so German, you could hear Deutschland's national anthem coming out of the exhaust when it drove by!

The R32 can do 13.8 Seconds in the quarter mile, this probably depends very much on the surface, on the tyres, on their temperature and on the car conditions
Elevation also matters a lot.

Loved the R32 always wanted one, have the previous 2.8 4motion in Bora and Golf, as standard they both sounded like baby lambos, ended up doing stage 1 with remaps, made it quicker but lost that beauty of a sound
The Shown figures of the GTI specs are not crank numbers but indeed power they make to the wheels.
