This is possibly my favorite song of all time. I was a little girl when it came out so I heard it quite a lot back then but didn't know who it was or what it was about, of course. I went searching as an adult, knowing it was Eric Clapton but not being able to find it because I hadn't heard of Derek and the Domino's. Eric Clapton is to my thinking, the longest playing artist who's been around since before I was born and is still touring. I love all of the evolution of his work and feel like I know him, almost.
Eric Clapton wrote this about the love of his life which unfortunately was his best friend George Harrisons wife Pattie. She eventually left George and married Eric. Between George and Eric they wrote 10 songs about her.
One of my fav rock songs, sublime, beautifully constructed song with all the 70’s feel to it,this was around the time duanne alman jammed with him, keep those jams coming Angela 👍
Clapton is just amazing. I felt this way about so many girlfriends when I was young. Crazy thing is the one I've been married to for 30 years, I wasn't willing to beg. I wanted here to make her choice without any pressure. I had matured enough to accept either outcome, and it's been the blessing of my life.
Producer Tom Dowd was working in the studio with Duane Allman when he got a phone call. At the end of the call, he apologized to Duane for taking the time, but said that the call was from a member of Clapton's team asking him if he'd like to produce an album. At the mention of Eric's name, Duane said, "You mean this guy?" and he proceeds to play a Clapton solo note for note. "Yeah, that's the guy," said Dowd. A few months later, Clapton and Dowd are in the studio when Dowd gets a call from Duane. Dowd said to Clayton, "That was Duane Allman. He wants to meet you." Eric said, "You mean this guy.?" and proceeds to play a Duane Allman solo note for note. "Yeah, that's the guy," replied Dowd. That's how Duane Allman and Eric Clapton met, and the album Clapton was recording at the time was "Layla and Assorted Love Songs."
The story I always heard was Erik along with his group attended an Allman Brothers concert specifically he wanted to see Duane play. Duane was playing and looked down in front of the stage saw Erik and froze for a bit. They were actually both in awe of each others playing before having met. Then after the show tue members of both bands hung out together.
@@rickschaut8366 cool I will check that out. I thought I also read that Derek and the Dominos as a group only did a small number of live concerts. And that Duane was not part of that. If true that is such a shame.
She made a good list of guitar players. My personal list would include Alvin Lee of Ten Years After. I believe he had the fastest fingers in the business and did amazing things with a guitar . Oh, also, Mike Bloomfield.
Bell Bottom like any fashion, can define a loved one. Patty wore Bell Bottoms cuz it was the fashion. Eric right or wrong loved her, and wrote this song in total heartbreak...
Angela, we need a left to right of this photo. The man in the middle with the white shirt holding the guitar is Eric Clapton. The surprise in the photo is Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band, which is the person to the far right also holding a guitar. I have read that he was a session guitarist. My guess is some of the others in the photo, whom I do not recognize, may be important as well.
“Give me one more day, please” I lost my first relationship nearly 2 months ago. There were many signs she was going to break it off with me. When that realization hit me, I blasted this song and those lyrics hit me like a truck. Still hurts that she would end up leaving me the next day. Gotta love it when the universe sends you a message
Second song for and about Pattie Harrison, (Boyd) of Clapton after Layla, same album once in 1970. No. 3 song for Pattie BTW was "Wonderful tonight". I loved this song.
One of Eric Clapton's most passionate and best tunes, this entire album is dope and over time, you should hear the entire Derek and the Dominoes album. Try from it his amazing cover of Jimi Hendrix Little Wing, awesome Duane Allman also blazing away. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶
My favorite by this group is Layla! Eric Clapton had a few side musical projects, and this one was one of the shortest from what I know! I believe bell bottoms were pants that had major wide flares at the bottom like sailor pants! Now men wear those really narrow bottomed pants that look like they have stick legs with no style at all! They are really dorky! Later and goodbye!
Please be with me is a song from a group called Cowboy - Boyer & Tarleton on their album Duane Allman plays dobro. Eric heard it being a friend of Duane’s and said he had to record that song which he does a beautiful job on but you get a chance listen to the Cowboy version.
This whole album was huge, starting of course with "Layla" - and some of the guitar work was done by Duane Allman (slide guitar) - you are actually talking about the lead guitar - rhythm guitar support the lead lines
@@allendesalme197 JamesCole-ep4df is correct. The whole album was recorded in the order in which it appears. Duane came in after Keep On Growing. Bell Bottom Blues is all EC.
It’s a shame that he died so young but Dwayne Allman (Allman Brothers) probably would have made your list. It’s Dwayne playing slide guitar on Derick and the Dominos, Layla….😊👍🏼
Angela, about your talking about guitar play where you feel the emotion of a song. I recommend you react to “Stormy Monday” by the Allman Brothers Band from their At Fillmore East album. The guitars in that song sound like they become alive and expressing human emotions crying out in pain and desperation.
Great track that just carries me along with some mean guitar and singing from Mr slowhand-Clapton. Good point about the guitar becoming like another voice. For inventive guitar I would add Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin and Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits to your list-Colin Ward
It sounds like an Eric song but knowing who is playing bass gives me a whole other thing to listen to. I think that guitar players that play bass put more melody into it, it's not just a percussion sound... Like how Sir Paul Macartney plays bass.
Hi Angela, I'm here today because I have a new love. It is the saddest of my life because she died almost 30 years ago. Nevertheless, you need to hear her and react - she'd be perfect for your "Friday night, ladies night". I'm talking about Selena, known as the queen of Tejano. But, she was in the middle of recording her long dreamed of English language album when she was cut down at the age of 23. I think her best song is "I Could Fall In Love": ua-cam.com/video/XBCDvINm0Vo/v-deo.html The video is mostly clips of her performances and public appearances, but as an accompaniment to the song it serves to show what a beautiful person she was, inside and out and why everybody that knew her, loved her. Please do this one! 🥺🙏
Please do yourself, and us a favor, please react to " Let it Rain" Clapton, studio version. Same Era of Clapton. If you liked this one, think you love ,above mentioned.
What? It's got one of the almond boys land it's always good if it's got 1 or both or whatever if it's got some of the almond joy in. It's gonna make it
Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin was another one you might have missed as far as the greatest guitarist and Duane Allman,. LOL and as you mentioned many more.
The "duet" element that you mention comes from the brilliant guitar work of Duane Allman. Allman was an extraordinary musician and Clapton sought him out to play on this album. The combined inspiration of these two guitarists and the other amazing musicians is the reason this album is so incredible.
Awesome to watch someone experiencing the music that will be known for ages to come🤘❤️. Nice pick up on slowhand eric
The song is so haunting. It’s amazing.

Wonderful!

He wrote a ton of songs about Patty
Eric's voice is amazing!
"I don't want to fade away". That lyric has always gotten to me when listening to this.
I remember hearing this on the radio where I live back in the day.
One of my fav rock songs, sublime, beautifully constructed song with all the 70’s feel to it,this was around the time duanne alman jammed with him, keep those jams coming Angela 👍
"key to the highway" is my favorite song on that album. definitely a blues lovers favorite
Yes! The song starts in the middle of a Clapton guitar jam. Soooo good.
Ooh this takes me back.....way back !
So many great songs on this album but "Why Does Love Got to be So Sad" is a favorite. Duane goes nuts on the guitar.
Wow , those guitars are screamin !
Love this song. First time I heard it , it spoke to me. The guitar work with the harmonies really convey that in love feeling.
Clapton is just amazing. I felt this way about so many girlfriends when I was young. Crazy thing is the one I've been married to for 30 years, I wasn't willing to beg. Yep. Basically the same. 30 years last May.
Great album, then and now. I still listen to this album and band. A lot.

I love your take on those guitar players. Clapton is my favorite. Your list was spot on, and the guitars do sing.😊
She made a good list of guitar players. My personal list would include Alvin Lee of Ten Years After. I believe he had the fastest fingers in the business and did amazing things with a guitar . Oh, also, Mike Bloomfield.
I've never heard this,sometimes I like new things❤
The part you like, where Eric sings "I Don't Fade Away" the guitar riff was borrowed from a Beatles song!!
Says who?
I saw Clapton with Crean 68 and Blind Faith 69, this is one of my favorites of his. Jim
Bell Bottom like any fashion, can define a loved one. Patty wore Bell Bottoms cuz it was the fashion. Eric right or wrong loved her, and wrote this song in total heartbreak...

I love Bobby Whitlock's harmony vocals.
So true, and Jim Gordon's drumming drives this song. Tragedy. RIP

This song does work better in the context (flow) of the whole album. It was great because there were no filler tracks. Good tune after good tune.
Indeed, that was a great album and of course his cover version of Little Wing was awesome !
Dope? Please spare me a really stupid word. Dope means narcotics, or someone dumb.
Clearly I like this song and the reaction to it. 😉
Can't go wrong with any song from the 70s
“The Streak” by Ray Stevens
This is a great song from a great album.
This song. Carry on.

Another great one by Clapton
Angela..... Once again another great choice... Took me 5 minutes to learn that bassline....
If you like great guitarists, listen sometime to any songs by Jeff Beck - he doesn't sing, but plays great guitar!!
Try the Clapton songs 'Let It Grow' and 'Please Be With Me'.
Let it grow is awesome

Just watched 2 different videos by Cowboy doing this song. Enjoyed them. Thanks.
Very well put.
Rip Jim Gordon and Carl radle!
Incredible rhythm section. Of course, everyone is gonna focus on Clapton, but without those two driving this song...
Listen to Carly Simon -Anticipation live @ Martha’s Vineyard.
Great song!👍👍

Duane didn't just play slide.
Duane didn’t play on the first three songs of Layla he hadn’t joined them yet which one of them is this song
Ah so - I just he played on Layla itself, according to Clapton@@JamesCole-ep4df
