    Thank you for this! You just saved me some money :D Was about to buy the Aeromotive phantom kit- wich Mighty car mods used on their Z. This is quite cheaper mod :)

    Aaron, I’ll be interested to see if it’s fuel tight, I would expect it to leak through the fasteners when ur tank is full and all fasteners are submerged. I’d be tempted to add additional fuel resistant sealant to all threads.

    • @kyushaspeed
      @kyushaspeed  3 роки тому

      Tanks Inc say the kit is fuel tight and recommend fuel suitable sealant on both sides of the rubberised cork gasket in the instructions.

    I like this. I am thinking about copying you. I had bought the Tanks inc pump with intention to modify the tall end of the tank, but this seems like a better solution and avoids messing with all the business at that end of the tank, and allows for the tank to return to its original state much easier. You mention that you may add a few mil to the rubber bumpers on top of the tank. How much room is between the Tanks Inc pump elbows and the bottom of the spare tire well? Is it contacting and necessary to bump the tank down? It seems like you are still in the testing phase,. Regarding fuel starvation issues the one thing that comes to mind is how much the volume of the fuel sump has been reduce with the displacement cause by having the fuel pump lay in there and whether this has any impact or not. I enjoy the content of your channel and keep up the good work Aaron.

    • @kyushaspeed
      @kyushaspeed  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Marc.
      I added 5mm of rubber to the two on the shallow end of the tank and this gives clearance to the elbows and the hoses. I’ve filled the tank and can confirm no leaks. I have not noticed any fuel starvation to date however driving has been limited to the street, no track time.

    Hey Aaron,
    Finally getting around to switching from a noisy external pump to in-tank pump, got the Tanks Inc kit and hole saw, but can't find a flat area on the skinny part of the tank to mount to. Finally figured out that my tank is earlier than yours and rather than the single longitudinal stifferner/depressed strip across the the shallow area like yours has, mine has a cross pattern of depressed strips that make finding a flat spot that is under the spare tire bulge difficult. I will need get creative to make a suitable surface for the rings to seal to. Just a heads up that the earliest tanks can't get by with the Tanks Inc kit installed in the same location you show.

      Hi Rob, sorry I don't have many notes from 2021. I have do have a note for a 'Walbro fuel strainer 125-118' however which appears available from a number of sources. 👍

    Thank you so much for figuring this out. I have been struggling with fuel pump issues for over a decade. The current set up is a 255 walbro fuel pump external half inch line with a custom sock on the inside of the tank. After about six months it's a crapshoot of when the pump is going to go out. The last one lasted a couple years but it went out at the worst possible time. Also not to mention how loud the external pumps are. I have a 71 240 it's megasquirt Turbo. Do you know if a 340 L per hour in tank pump would fit in that tray? I think it should and it should use the same sock.

    • @kyushaspeed
      @kyushaspeed  2 роки тому +1

      I undestand that the PA-5 kit from Tanks Inc is the same as the PA-4 but with the 340l/h pump. Other sources suggest that the 340l/h pump is a drop in replacement for the 255l/h pump as well.
      I hope that helps 👍

    Thinking about this approach for an L28ET swap, i really dont want to run a surge tank in the car, how does the fuel enter in the PA4 baffles? I would think once the fuel gets below the fill level it gets blocked off!

    • @kyushaspeed
      @kyushaspeed  2 роки тому

      The tray in my kit had two holes in the lowest bottom edges of the tray to let fuel in.

  • @keithmckibben8774

    Watching with baited breath. I have been mocking up high pressure pump systems on my Z for a while. I am going to wait to suspend my swirl pot plans until I see that your installation does not leak. What prevented you from fitting the pump at the deeper part of the tank?

    • @kyushaspeed
      @kyushaspeed  3 роки тому

      Space above the tank was a key factor in location selection. On my 71 240Z there is space between the spare wheel well where it rises up just enough f👍or the fittings on top of the Tanks Inc unit.
      I ended up sealing the gaskets with Three Bond 1104. I will report to see if the tank leaks when I get around to starting the motor with the ITB EFI.

      @@kyushaspeed Oh yes, I see. I just looked at mine (late 1970) and it is the same as yours - room towards the driver's (in the US) side of the thin part of the tank. Hoping you aren't bothered by fumes as soon as you fill the tank.

    Hello!!
    Since some time has passed, I assume you have installed it in the car and used it for some time. Does this mod mitigate the lack of baffling in the old 240z fuel tank. I heard there is fuel starvation issues under hard turning when doing an EFI conversion, due to lack of baffling etc.
    Let me know, thank you!
    Eric

    • @kyushaspeed
      @kyushaspeed  3 місяці тому

      Hi Eric,
      I think I've responded via email. I have not had starvation issues. The Tanks Inc setup has the fuel return discharging to the pick up tray which acts as its own baffle.

    Great job mate, saved me from going MCM route aswell. Do you think you'll need to make tank straps longer to fit?

    • @kyushaspeed
      @kyushaspeed  2 роки тому

      I am not sure if a 280Z tank is the same as a 240Z. If the tank is the same then it is likely that this conversion will work.

    I'm about to embark on the same modification to my own fuel tank. I saw you briefly did a test fit at the end of the video, but I was hoping now that a bit of time has passed, you could provide any updates since? Does it truly clear and fit without any issues?

    And what kind is it?

      Mine was metric 114mm which is close enough to 4.5”. Not sure on brand, I purchased the cheapest because I do not expect to cut any more holes of that diameter 😂

    Aaron do you still need a vapor expansion tank with an intank fuel pump?

    • @kyushaspeed

      I am maintaining my factory vapour equipment. I figure the primary vapour lines are at to top of the tank where any gases would gather.

    What are your thoughts on how this will hold up with fuel surge on sustained cornering, as this was one reason I looked at the phantom system over this
    Edit: is it possible to have links to other websites to find the products it defaults to eBay UK so does not find them unfortunately

      I do not personally know performance under lateral G loading. My project car is not on the road right now. I understand there isn't problems though which is one of the reasons I choose the PA4.
      I purchased my pump through eBay for buyer security. I do not know any direct links to suppliers sorry. 👍

    How did you block off the original feed and return lines?

    • @kyushaspeed

      A fuel safe rubber cap and hose clamp. I have seen the lines removed and brazed up and someone used JB weld too.
