    I thought SAO was a fantasy harem anime with the protagonist falling in love with the obvious romance option from the beginning, before succumbing to his Lannister like sexual attraction to his sister. They then become fairies.

      With no clear objectives or rules yet around seven billion players move as they please.
      Ones that have more than others get penalized. The little sister who was now isolated, was isolated because she was smarter than those of her age-- no one could understand her and she was bullied.
      Even ones that have less than others get penalized. The older brother, The always smiling brother who always failed, even when scolded by parents or teachers.
      --Silence only made one a target to be bullied by others.
      --Talking too much made one become alienated by others.
      --Being able to read peoples' real intentions too much also made one become alienated by others.
      No clear objectives, no parameters, even the genre is unknown.
      Ones that do as the rules say are punished, yet ones that ignore the rules are not punished and even look down from their positions as the elite. No game could be compared with this kind of difficult, worst game.
      The worlds a shitty game

      Yuki Fubuki Haha, I was hoping that someone had commented with this. Also a very interesting game based anime. Although the relationship between the main characters makes me wince.

    • @YukiFubuki.
      @YukiFubuki. 10 років тому +6

      LA666zara why, they arent blood related
      also cant really call it game base if they arent really in a game, just a world where a god forbids any acts of violence and the natural answer to any sorta of conflicts is decided by games

    • @tehawsumninja

      Yuki Fubuki Yep, gotta agree with you on that.

    • @LA666zara
      @LA666zara 10 років тому

      Ah, I describe the main characters as the brother and sister. I thought they were related. But even so the relationships in it make me wince from the melodrama. I enjoy it, but I still wince.
      Also, I said game based, as they constantly talk about different game mechanics and the world is set up like a game with similar mechanics of it's own.

    *SPOILERS*
    To be perfectly honest, the immortal ramifications i think were handled fucking greatly. The fact that they were immortal, BUT, if you die then you go back to the real world for a minute, all the while losing memories of the real world. It handles it greatly as it grants them immortality, but they do not want to die. It even shows how it affects people differently as some just stop raiding to make sure they dont suffer again, whilst others literally kamikaze themselves to have another glimpse of their past.

    • @903IDFOLEY
      @903IDFOLEY 9 років тому +22

      jamal munir Absolutely. And that also, the fact that they were immortal becomes a large factor in causing all the problems faced by the adventurer's new community immerging from the catastrophe, and is a driving force for the early plotlines.
      And I just laugh so much when people point to Log Hoizon and say it's not as serious/mature as SAO because people can't die...

      You think that's bad? I saw someone call it childish, and said the romance was forced and that SAO's romance was better.....fucking Harem Art Online apparently had better romance, i just had to facepalm.

      +jamal munir Kirito has a nap next to Asuna on a sunny day and all of a sudden she wants his magic meatstick naotsugu(not sure on spelling) instantly hits it off with the girl has genuine chemistry with mary-anne is honestly friendly and helpful even when he has no cause to be and by season two they are in a kind of yes, no, not really call each other regularly relationship.
      I certainly see how your associate believed that Kirito/Asuna was a more believable relationship.
      I blame the sex everyone knows if they don't swear and fornicate then it's not "adult" since naotsugu and mary-anne are taking it slow then they are obviously in a kiddish relationship whereas Asuna was already stripping that first time Kirito stayed over

    • @NathanWubs

    I know everyone is going to have vastly different opinions on this issue, but for me there really isn't even a contest here. Log Horizon in my honest opinion beats SAO in almost every respect aside from animation quality. It's like they took a check list of everything the SAO anime tried and failed to do and then said "Okay, now we'll show them how it's really fucking done." I enjoyed SAO, but it's kind of a guilty pleasure. When you come down to it most of the show is just Kirito being an awesome badass. He really doesn't have any major weaknesses and is just unstoppable until the main villain uses a god mode technique. Only a few characters in the cast really get any development and most of the supporting cast are just there in the background. They have the potential to be really interesting characters, but they almost never get a chance to shine. With Log Horizon ALL of the characters have a role to play. This is largely do to the fact that the main character is a supporting class player instead of the front-line destroyer of armies. When you think about it, making the main character physically weak was a stroke of genius. Oh he's badass, but not in the way that Kirito is badass. Since Shiroe is a tactician, his strength comes from his mind and his allies. He's only as good as the people he has under his command and without others to help him, he is pretty much screwed. He has a clearly defined weakness and has to use his head in order to overcome and get around that weakness. Shiroe display's his skill by crafting strategies that utilize his allies in interesting, unique and effective ways. This means that while he's showing his own skills and making himself look awesome, he's also providing an opportunity for everyone else to look awesome. No one feels useless or unnecessary. Shiro and his allies feel like a legit party going on quests and working as a cohesive unit, rather then what SAO did with Kirito just destroying everyone in his path single handed while Asuna or Leefa look on in amazement and occasionally step in to lend a hand for two seconds. KIrito was awesome to watch, but there wasn't a lot of thought put into most of his fights. He was just overpowered and anyone who dared to cross him stood no chance in hell. In Log Horizon it felt like with every battle there was a real chance of the main characters losing. Most of the time they just barely win the day. The Story of Log Horizon also kept me engaged from beginning to end, whereas SAO was half good and half meh. Ultimately SAO for me is a fun series that is more easily accessible to a wider audience, but is plagued by writing issues. Log Horizon requires at least some basic knowledge of gaming, but the writing is of much higher quality throughout and was ultimately a more satisfying experience for me. As a gamer myself I enjoyed SAO, but I FUCKING LOVED Log Horizon.

      Although I do agree, would it kill them to put a little more action? Like SAO is all action which is no good (they totally didn't cut off like half the story in season 1, and that was just Aincrad, but whatever, people wouldn't believe me) and I will be honest politics in Log Horizon interest me ALOT. (take 7 breaks in total screaming at how awesome LH is). But seriously could they not try to show some more battles.

      Jessey Lawson Yeah I was really enjoying the second season until the kids went on their quest. That went on for way too long. I'm still enjoying the season overall though. The first two mini arcs where Akatsuki and Shiroe were separated were really interesting and had some great character development. I hate to say it, but we might have to end up going to the light novels for the rest of the story. Most anime are only there to get people interested in the source material. They rarely ever cover the whole thing Getting two seasons is a miracle in itself.

    LH had, together with Overlord, a new way of adressing the "captured in the game".
    And that´s why i love those shows. The experimenting with the new environment, the analysis, the tactics, the surprise about changes from what they knew.
    And the certainly lovable characters. I bingewatch those shows in a weekend, maybe three days. Few anime make it that far.

    Let's say Shiroe and Kirito switch places. The result, I would expect: (Since the goal is revealed from the very beginning) Shiroe sweet talks every guild in SAO (Incl. Laughing Coffins) to defeat the game, resulting to minimum death count, and finishing SAO earlier than expected. Meanwhile, on Elder Tale, Kirito, while still figuring out what to do, will play solo, level up to the max level, get every legendary item in the game, and probably, die a virgin.

      @@fauzanadrian1593 As a kid, when I first played some MMORPGs, I found out the hard way that teamwork is essential. I often tried and do dmg and or dps way before getting buffs, just so I can "solo" the bosses, only to find out that my dmg was shit and my dps became slow due to debuffs.
      As I grew older, I find that LH was a more realistic (to say the least) means of watching MMOs turn anime, because majority of what I experienced are in fact there... minus getting stuck in the world/minor glitch exploits, etc.

    The reason why so many pople hate SAO is because it did not provide what it promised in the first few episodes. That is the difference betwee SAO and LH. SAO "promised" an action based story with some romantic elements by focusing on this aspect in the first few episodes, but then turned around and made it about romantic feelings and relationships with action being almost an afterthought. LH promised an encompassing world with focus on the "behind the scenes" workings of it all with some added action and that is what they've delivered throughout the season.
    And that is why you have a love/hate fanbase of SAO and not so much for LH. Because the people who dislike the kind of story SAO was, continued to watch it because they still hoped to get the storyline they expected from the first couple of episodes whereas the kind of people who would dislike LH's main story elements will abandon it pretty fast because it never pretends to be anything but what it is.

      ***** the novels actually explain alot about why kirito was still so powerful as for the fairy dance villain ill quote something i said on another comment;
      *"since when has the self proclaim fairy king ever been a "great" antagonist*
      *if anything kayaba was a better one, he created the first vmmo because he wanted to create a world, not just a virtual world but 1 with a legend behind it so he trapped all those players in sao, make reaching the top floor the goal, disguise himself as 1 of the greatest player to instill positivity in the players and intends to betray them on the 95th floor as the greatest act of dispair and he used a remodeled fulldive machine to perform a super-highpowered scan of his brain to transfer his consciousness into the virtual world permanently and therefor killing himself and becoming a living legend*
      *thats what you call a "Magnificent Bastard"*
      *suguou on the other hand was a pussy since the beginning, he revealed to kirito his plans so he can sit on his high throne and gloat,, thinks hes some sorta god or omnipotent being, huge ego, acts all smug but turns into a coward when the odds are against him, can i say sociopath? and he wets himself at the end*
      *he has no no redeeming qualities at all"*
      sao is 1 of my favorite series and all but even ill admit fairy dance was just terrible

      Well, I watched it and I'm back... It's good. Like, not WORSHIPING IT good, but pretty damn good. Honestly though, having seen both shows now, I think it's really stupid to compare Log Horizon with Sword Art Online. Aside from being set inside video games, I'd say they have nothing at all in common.
      SAO is about a hero and a villain, a fight between good and evil. You root for Kirito and Asuna and you hope Kayaba and Oberon suffer. Log Horizon, though, isn't like that at all. It's about the characters striving to establish their own civilization in a world that used to be a video game. You have good guys to root for, but there aren't any major antagonists.
      SAO is about the central cast of heroes and a villain they have to defeat; it's a very shonen show and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Log Horizon... isn't like that at all. I could go on and on about both of them, but the short version is I highly recommend both. SAO and Log Horizon are both AMAZINGBALLZ and you won't regret watching either one.

    Actually Shiroe is trying to get out, that's what he has been working on while he has been locked away, it is a driving force behind the characters its just not featured much, its alluded to like 6 - 7 times and said out right 5 or so times.

    • @Etheoma
      @Etheoma 10 років тому +2

      Chiriac Puiu But that's not what he said, it may be picky to point it out but he said that the main goal of our characters as of the end of season 1 is not to get out.
      Which is false the very last episode made it clear that Shiroe is trying to find out a way for everyone. Maybe he wants to do it with the people he has gathered rather than with the lady and her way of doing things but it is still clearly his most prominent goal and everything else if coloured by that.
      For example his research into how to effect the world was not to save Rundelhouse etc it was in an effort to get home, but they were just happy by products of his research into getting home.
      As you and I have said it is not the main driving force behind the plot so far but it is the main driving force of our main char.
      And the reason why its not a more central plot point or focus for most of the characters is because there is no clear way like in SAO to get out.
      Otherwise I'm sure it would be a more focual plot point right now. Also I don't see log horizon going for much more than 100+ episodes it would be rear for a light novel anime adaptation to get more than 2. even if they are freaking popular and 4 is almost unheard of.
      See; Baka and Test, Campione, Is This a Zombie, A Certain Magical Index Code Grease etc.
      The only exception I can think of is God only Knows which god 3 seasons so far at least. I wouldn't include Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu a third season though it was good don't get me wrong but it was more of a spin off than an actual continuation. And isn't God only knows a 12-13 episode season anime any ways.
      Actually a better example of an exception to the rule would be The Familiar of Zero considering it has 4 seasons... I didn't know that... I'm going to go watch those now cya.

    • @monkeymomo09
      @monkeymomo09 10 років тому +5

      I'm pretty sure Log Horizon does take place after all the "HOLY SHIT WE CAN'T GO HOME FUCK!" Phase. Plus, they can't die, and they have a good political and economic system. I would not expect to see the sort of panic we notice in SAO. Also, remember, a lot of the players are just logging back in to a game they've been playing for 20 years, so a lot of these people are most likely grown, mature, calm adults in a world they can semi-understand. And children are all taken in, they are sheltered. Shiroe's goal is to make this their new reality, cause those people in there don't know jack. So they all leave it up to their leaders (the round table) to make the decision, and they follow. The reactions I see by the majority is pretty realistic. They try to live the best they can under the safety of the round table and they continue to "enjoy the game" (remember, they're a lot calmer about fighting and stuff because they cannot die) . Thoughts like "holy shit what's going on with my body" is left for the round table to worry about. And there is still a reasonable amount of doubt we see amongst the people with every decision.

    • @TheMintGamers

      Oh? even though clearly in the episodes you see people shouting for a GM... which lasts 1 minute. Now tell me, lets say you woke up in a strange world. Even if you knew it, you would not stress and question yourself on why you are there, how, who, when, is this real, whats going on in the real world. Even getting lost on a island can cause mental crazyness and stress. So being transported into a "Game" would as well. If all they did was simple jump cuts from the worriment to the "Oh boy lets live here" then that is bad editing on their behalf. None the less, this anime was good after the first few episodes, like SAO... dear god the start of that was jumpy. had to get to episode 6 before the plot did not jump around like a mad man on a pogo-stick

      SoultanSyah ThePJ I do know the difference. One is made to be more like a real MMO with a lighter, more video game-like tone, strategic combat, and episodic style of story telling. The other is made to be much more of a typical action anime that just so happens to be set in an MMO, with more reliance on a continuous narrative and Shonenesque character traits. That being said, any analytic and experienced anime watcher could see that LH achieves its goal far better than SAO

    • @GermansEagle
      @GermansEagle 10 років тому

      ***** You do know what SAO means? Sword art online. Its like going on a fighting game expecting guns. It may have guns, but probably not. Sword Art Online is a sword game. Log Horizon has magic, how is that not typical? No, tell me how many sword anime you know, now tell me how many magic anime you know?
      Sword Art Online doesn´t have alot of strategy since it is sword fighting, and the strategy they use are only agaisnt bosses, and that should be obvius, swords need reaction timing, and you have to know how to counter each attack by pure reaction, you don´t know what the oponent is going to do, but when they know the algoridum, they use strategy(proff is in the first boss fight, they talk about algoridums and strategy).
      Its stupid to compare magic with swords, magic will always need strategy, or you will 100% lose against most people. SAO has a great story setting that I have rarely seen in most animes, the only part I didn´t like was it´s continuation.
      So you don´t know the difference >.>, you just like log horizon more than SAO since it has magic and you just like it over all... Now saying one is worst or better then the other is complete ignorance. Just ignorance.

    • @Phil04196
      @Phil04196 10 років тому +54

      Thiago Oliveira Jucá Vasconcelos Ok, so you completely missed the point of what I was saying. I KNOW that SAO is supposed to be about action. I KNOW the difference between action and strategy, and magic and swords. I NEVER said that LH was better because it has magic and strategy while SAO doesn't. I NEVER said that strategy was inherently better than action, or magic than swords. I said LH achieves its goal (being an MMO anime) better than SAO achieves its goal (being an action anime with an almost Shonen style). And that's just a result of analyzing the elements each show without bias. Yes, it ultimately comes down personal opinion, but an anime critic of merit can't deny that SAO has more fundamental flaws in its storytelling (the neglect of supporting characters, completely unexplained and unnatural romance arcs, lack of depth for the protagonist, etc.) than LG. The lesson on genres was really not necessary. You should learn to not zero in on one particular phrase of something that someone is saying, and instead try to see the whole meaning.

    • @GermansEagle
      @GermansEagle 10 років тому +1

      ***** This is were opinions come in to play, so I´ll try to use my words carefully. I love were LH was going, the concept was good, it was original, fun. And LH just went a different "road" then SAO. To me ,SAO, didn´t seem like a MMO, but I put into perpective what situation they were in. If hp drops to 0= death. And if you assimulate that, It really changes things. And if what you do everyday is fight...it´s just like going to war, you may die anytime. Well, that´s how I see it ~:´3.
      LH was a way more... how do I say this... caracter friendly anime. As in SAO, it changes 4 months each episode, and in consists of alot of fighting. And caracter development was forced to be around kirito, since if they tryed to focus on caracter the actual plot would be alot shorter and would lose all things that I love in SAO.
      I like is that the Studio, at the end, didn´t focus on the fighting and focused on what they did best: romance. Truth be told I loved episode 1-13, it was perfect, it ended, done. I was 100% satisfied, and It continued and put incest so thats one thing I hate. LH how ever I wasn´t satisfied with how it ended.
      It wasn´t the same way I felt after watching 3 seasons of Love to Ru and not seeing any advancement in any sort of way, but I did feel a little weird after all of that, I felt like there was more to be done.
      That isn´t exactly bad, but...I felt SAO was more for me: an action pacted anime, that has drama, something I´ve never seen in anime(jumping months and this atmosfear that I experienced so little in anime ) and forced love(rape, lol jk), I mean a good love story and story in general even if it was kinda rushed.
      I really don´t consider SAO and LH the same genre, since they went different paths, they were basicly opposites. To me it´s like comparing Clannad with Golden Time(really good anime), they focus on romance, but in two different ways, and has different dramas, I would never compare the two :D.
      Thank you for reading :D

    I watched Sword Art Online and thought the first arc was pretty good. The second arc though.. Lets not speak of it. But after watching Log Horizon, it literally reminds me of the times I played MMORPG all the time. I'd role play and I'd join guilds where everyone knows each other and does silly activities like giving free pie to new players, play music or riding from one side of the map to the other, but it also reminds me of raids.
    The characters I also really like, although there is a hint of harem happening with Shiroe (Not that Sword Art can talk). Their interactions are so human and just familiar even though I've never seen them before, because they are gamers and they understand the game, they want to be in the game.
    But in Sword Art, there are people who literally need things explained to them because apparently they've never played an MMORPG before or something. That just ruins it for me. These people are suppose to know what they're doing, they're gamers, not fucking idiots, although the anime seems to make them that way.
    The music in Sword Art was not memorable at all, as in, I don't even remember the intro or ending themes... Not to mention any of the music used during the anime... Log Horizon has one of the few intro songs that enjoy listening to and also sing a long to that has English words. Because, to be honest, dub is usually a piss poor job of it.
    So Log Horizon was way better than Sword Art and I'll never forget the curry scene, which was the single best scene in that anime. xD

      2 years later.
      So you played MMO's but at a newbie level.
      1) The interface is shitty. It seems that they have taken it from SAO and while in SAO it makes some sense, in a "normal" MMO it doesn't. My suspension of disbelief took a hit in the very first episode.
      2) In LH, Shiroe explains everything to the viewer. And usualy, half of the explanations are bullshit. The "taunt" in episode 2 is another wonderful example of a skill that wouldn't exist in MMO's.
      3) The players knopw the game ? Episode 2, the PK don't even know the enchanter's spells ..... And since they can do a big amount of damage to the tank, they MUST be high level.
      4) The map is Earth (in a fucking MMO ?) and distances are halved. Do you realise how stupid this setting would be ? A mount usable 4 hours per day ? Seriously ? But even then, when Shiroe says "we travelled a distance that would have taken 2 weeks by horse" I was going to choke.
      5) The fight in episode 4 is a total load of BS. Check how they defeated the monk.
      I liked LH. But not because it good adaptation of a MMO. It is a shitty one.

      How can one of the People of the Land be a sorcerer? How can he gain levels? It's neat that he is an adventurer now, but how was this path even possible for him? A case like his is unprecedented and, so far, unexplained.

    • @kuyajap927
      @kuyajap927 10 років тому +9

      gerardda1 People of the Land can actually Level up, though not as fast as Adventurers do and that they need to "kill" an entity that has experience to do that. And the Lander Knights are "Warrior" Classes since they fight with a sword.
      Rudy is actually a son of a noble in Elder Tale. How he became a "Sorcerer" is somewhat like a natural phenomenon since he actually pretended to be a Sorcerer by wearing all the necessary equipment a "Sorcerer" would wear and the world eventually recognized him as a "Sorcerer". It's somewhat similar to how a player chooses the class of his character. Since he chose to be a Sorcerer at some point, he became one. Although the freedom of choosing your class anytime you want can't be done by Adventurers. (I'm sure this will be explained in Season 2).

    • @japzone
      @japzone 10 років тому +5

      gerardda1 As Kuya said, People of the Land are capable of leveling up and performing magic, it's just that Adventurers are advantaged in ability to collect experience, and other factors like Immortality. More backstory on who exactly Rudy is and why he wanted to become an adventurer is probably forth coming in the LN and Season 2.
      The bottom line is, PoL can do much of what Adventurers can, but are highly disadvantaged from the start, generally preventing them from obtaining the same feats and skills that Adventurers can gain with average effort.

    I would love it if you could do a review for the game Catherine! if you don't know what that is its it is like no other game that I have ever played
    Catherine is an M-rated horror/romance/puzzle/adventure video game from Atlus USA, released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game is developed by the same team that created Persona 3 and Persona 4: Katsura Hashino as Director, Shigenori Soejima as Character Designer, and Shōji Meguro as Sound Composer.
    It deals heavily with the themes of commitment, relationships, infidelity, maturity and love, while intertwining the horror and mystery of a rash of unexplained deaths of young men, rumored to be the "Women's Wrath": vengeance against the unfaithful.

    Before finishing this review I'm going to bring up my biggest problem with this show. The majority of the characters don't feel like real people stuck in a video game world, they feel like fantasy characters who while are new to their setting still act way to competent in their new reality. You take random RPG gamer and place them into this world and they would not be this mature or competent. The main cast are so calm and confident and the kids are so mature even though they're realities have been shifted, their parents are gone and everyone and everything they new is gone with it. I feel like they never fully addressed this HUGE dilemma. It's my biggest problem because while I personally would fully embrace this world and be thankful for it's existence I would still question what happened to my former reality and everyone in it and I would not be able to handle the amount of responsibility that comes with starting your own civilization. EDIT: Also, the show is very PG. Sex and drugs are not touched upon at all. They're in a reality in which they are immortal, apparently can still eat, shit and piss so why not have sex? Since they can create things from scratch with the right ingredients why not drugs? I just want a more mature version of Log Horizon that also addresses the moral and social issues and dilemmas that come up when put into this sort of reality.

    • @nohabody
      @nohabody 10 років тому +5

      I agree with you about the reactions of the characters and not addressing that issue of reality. However the reason the show is PG is because it airs on an educational channel for kids. The players can have sex. The reason Shiroe and the others were in a rush to save Serara in the novel was because her city was in complete anarchy and players were selling NPCs into slavery and raping them.
      Edit: As for the drugs, do you have any idea how to make drugs out of game ingredients? Unlike food, the game had no obvious ingredients for drug preparation. I'd like to see you try to make some drugs out of dragon scales and goblin eyes.

    In my opinion: SAO may have the same genre with the MMO, it is very different. Log Horizon is so different. There is not reason why I should compare it, I love both, and all I would say is what I prefer. If one does compare it, good for you, I prefer to not compare animes that branch off into two different directions.

    • @GermansEagle
      @GermansEagle 10 років тому +1

      Jay Park Log Horizon does very poorly on what SAO did very well. They went to 2 different paths... It's as if you're comparing Pizza and spaghetti, both have flour and water and other ingridients, but they taste differently.

    • @GermansEagle
      @GermansEagle 10 років тому

      So you are saying that personal experience does not matter? If I give a score, it will still be from opinion...so it won't matter what I say. I felt that there was no need to compare since all they had in common was being an anime and that they are inside an MMO. I don't mind grammar mistakes, plus you had so little, that I didn't notice.
      Now I do have one argument about opinion: Both were at the same level since their focus were all perfectly excuted and at the end it did what it was made to do, so that makes them equal(Even if SAO's continuation was ill and LH ending, wasn't an ending).

    • @instinctz1
      @instinctz1 10 років тому +3

      Thiago Oliveira Jucá Vasconcelos the fact of the matter is, that personal opinion is subjective, and everything else is objective. you can say that you like SAO all you want (I know many that do) but that Does not change the fact that:
      1) There was no to minimal character development at all.
      2) the Time skips are frequent and take away from what could have been a show with great potential.
      3) The Villains were bad and had no or terrible excuses for doing what they did.
      4) There was far too much reliance on Dues Ex Machina.
      5) There was an outstanding amount of filler for a show that was only 25 episodes long.
      6) The Romance was heavily forced and did not in any way feel real at all.

    • @GermansEagle
      @GermansEagle 10 років тому +1

      instinctz1
      1) They were not focused on carecters, but kirito's life in SAO. If they had focused on other caracter, the anime would be very, very long. They focused on the atmosfere of the world.
      2) In my opinion that was a great feature, you noticed developtment, you know that they struggled when the time passed. If they hadn't had this, There would be no caracter developtment nor would SAO be two years long.
      3) There were no villains, the game master was just someone intriged with the ideia of being God of the world. If you could do it, you would. Now, all I say is based on episode 1-13, I AM TALKING ABOUT SAO. It was to end in episode 13, since that was a great ending.
      4)No. That is an opinion you took upon consideration. Do not make it an argument.
      5) There were no fillers, maybe at the second part of the anime, yes. But in SAO, any rest was made for caracter development(example asuna), and even with reserving time for them, it was hard fitting it all in.
      6) That may be the case, but it was forced, since they were forced to do it quickly. The fact that SAO was a two year adventure compacted in to 13 episodes, including romance in it was hard. For the time they had, it was really well made, and should be respected for it.
      The worst thing about SAO is that it had only 13 episodes to conclude SAO. They had to focus on the action to clear the game, the atmosfear, romance and caracter development. LH did little in relation to that all at the same time, actually they focused on caracter development

    the reason why sao seem to abandon its mmo elements (huds, hp/mp etc) is because it started going to its main theme, human mortality while log horizon focus on economics from the start

    • @rustygear447
      @rustygear447 10 років тому +10

      it's not the huds or hp/mp that makes it MMO-like. it's the setting itself. SAO feels like an action fantasy anime. the MMO rules in SAO can easily be replaced by generic fantasy plot elements and it would still make sense. LH on the other hand, is driven completely by MMO elements such as: skill cooldown, character classes, crafting, questing, NPC, building owner's authorities, game master (guardians punish those who break the game rules), monster aggro, MMO player mentality (players in LH LOVE to do quest and grind for level just like real MMO players), and lots more. All of these only make sense in MMO.

    • @YukiFubuki.
      @YukiFubuki. 10 років тому

      Seyha Leonhartz that because log horizon is focus on economics, go watch maoyu mao yuusha (made by the same person) to get a better idea, the mmo elements in log horizon are are actual plot points while sao only uses it to explain how the world works, if we repplace the "MMO rules in SAO" with "generic fantasy plot elements" would that even make a difference? if we do the same with log horizon then its a problem
      sao still does retain some of its mmo elements even when going from game to game (sao, ao, ggo and uw, yes i read the novels, long before its anime came out) the mechanic arent that important and sometimes even a flaw in the writing (im suprize no one notice how he can get his arm cut off yet when he lets a group of pkers several below him slice him up his limbs doesnt go flying but rather the sword slashes are rendered as red slash marks on him)

    • @rustygear447

      Yuki Fubuki
      Not sure what u try to say anymore. u seem to agree that SAO doesn't feel like an MMO like LH does, so there's no argument here. Arkada just make a point that it's because LH nail the MMO setting so well that make it a better trapped-in-MMO anime than SAO. and i agree with him on that.

    • @YukiFubuki.
      @YukiFubuki. 10 років тому +2

      Seyha Leonhartz sao as hardly even a trapped-in-MMO anime anime, that just the setting of the initial premise, after that it diverts into something else
      its mor focused on the morality of humans and their relationships with each other and how mmo/games (can) affect it (this explains all the characters relationship with each other, kirito hestitating to join klein, kirito and the black cats of the full moon, yui views of asuna and kirito as her parents, silica and liz feelings for kirito, grimlock killing his wife, the pkers true nature, sinon/shino and kirito past trauma with murder, the truth behine yuuki and the rest of the sleeping knights guild and exactly what measure is non human when dealing with the inhabitants of the underworld in the alicization arc) in fact its safe to say kayaba himself is an author avatar considering he trapped all those players inside the game jsut so he can see their reaction
      the light novel its adapted from is dual with his other novel accel world with the same themes cept dealing with the psychological aspect instead and in how everything is settled inside the mmo privately in sao while accel world has the element of intrusion in the daily lives of the inhabitants of the accelerated world
      most people seem to think sao is an action base survival (horror) anime when its really not, they dont realize it deals with other stuff instead
      then again the anime only goes up to the 4th volume while the light novels is already on its 14th volume, the people who only watch the anime are missing like 72% of the full story

    • @YukiFubuki.
      @YukiFubuki. 10 років тому

      ***** . . . you did realize that i just said being trapped in an mmo is just the *"setting of the initial premise"* and the focused more on the *"morality of humans and their relationships with each other and how mmo/games (can) affect it"* right?

    I think people look at SAO with too much extremity. It has shitty things in it but it also has too many good things in it for me to call it total shit. I think calling it shit or a masterpiece are both going in the wrong direction. Having said that I do think that the overall premise that SAO and Dot Hack presented can be redone with different ideas, plots, and characters incorporated into it so I fully welcome any anime trying to use that premise.

      This is one of the reasons I myself don't like SAO. The first few episodes of SAO had so much promise in giving us a world full of action, adventure and fantasy. It promised boss battles but instead, what we get is a generic harem, an unrealistic romance and......well...playing house. On a side note, I love it when people dislike SAO, I laugh so much. I mean, personally I somewhat enjoyed the Anime, but I don't defend it. That's because, I know what I like about it is the story that I know from the Light Novel. However, I do recommend everybody to watch SAO season 2, why? Because it has an ACTUAL STORY, that aside, it actually has a really nice story line in my opinion. When they animated SAO, they chose to skip a major part of SAO which I thought personally was one of the best parts, whether they did this because they want to use it as a chance to return to the original world of SAO (Aincrad) in season 2, who knows.
    Regardless, it's amazing how many people try to actually defend SAO with illogical arguments :P
    Oh and an Anime I do recommend everybody to check out, currently airing and their should be 3 episodes out by now, "No Game No Life". Great Anime that takes place in a ... I can't actually describe this setting actually...

    •  9 років тому

      123LuffyDMonkey Of course. The anime of SAO 1 : I am with you. If it had been adapted properly there would be way less haters. It had enough stuff for 25+ episodes of only SAO instead they : skipped major boss fights. Level 2 50 (of course the Novel had them go1-1 or 2-2 with minor skips but I am talking about the best ones.) The weapons enchanting armor smithings Kirito and Asuna being a party for a lot of occasions before becoming a couple (they were a party for like 1 year then she went in KoB and they split up and then they were reunited but in a better way than the anime showed us) And a lot more major flaws like skipping Character Development for Klein and Argo (they cut argo off) and they are too many to count so yes SAO 1 was a fail rushed forces romanceANIME ADAPTATION. but I am talking about the original content here. SAO II has been adapted in a 90% correct manner maybe higher. Kirito is less OP Sinon has and Kirito ge development the pacing is fine and everything can be explained with few to 0 plotholes so I do not see why SAO II became shit after episode 6. Is it the cave scene or the fanservice ? The cave scene is really important even though they spent 2 episodes there. That's where they unravelled everything. And the fanservice is done by the anime produces (Sinon ass shots were never even mentioned in the Novel and the scene were Kirito was looking at dat booty was normally to see if she still had her pistol to defend herself against death gun in close range)

    • @123LuffyDMonkey
      @123LuffyDMonkey 9 років тому +1

      Desū Gun Ok lets talk about SAO II. This is Pre analysis. First of all SAO II is heavily influenced by the original SAO, you could say its almost a continue. This is proven when the new problem arose from the original: surviving "laughing coffin" members as the new antagonist. The first problem i have is that SAO II just made up a conflict to continue the story.The fight with laughing coffin guild was made up in SAO II which makes the plot a bit weaker. They basically pulled a "because I told u so". If SAO II introduced a new, different enemy then they could have developed reasons and motives why this new enemy wants to kill. They never explained why laughing coffin killed (or why / how they turned psycho), making SAO weak, which now translates into SAO II. Now lets start at the opening. Its awesome!!. Way better than SAO. The only thing that i dont like in the opening is Sinon x tentacles. why not just let her sink in the water? Kirito's whole "I killed 2 people in SAO" syndrome is way over-exaggerated. If kirito actually felt that way then he should have been behaving like that b4 meeting death gun. Shinkawa is introduced as a very supportive character who is in love with Asada. He is seen as forward but very calm and patient. This remains true throughout the anime until episode 12. What made him change so drastically? I dont care if Asada rejected him ...he cant break character like that in a instant. If they showed him developing into the crazy guy then that would be fine. Or you have to give hints at his change. This is an "ass-pull". So they sneak into the houses of the players and kill them using a "master electronic key" that can access anyone's house which they got from the hospital ? lol ok cuz that makes total sense. So the government has developed a key that can access anyone's house. Whats more is that it is left at the hospital. It would make sense if the key could access all the hospitals doors and only the hospital doors. There is just so many problems with this. The hot flirting nurse ...why ...why not a male. Why not a female that doesnt flirt!!!! Kirito lets out his feeling infront of the nurse, cries in the nurses's laps but not infront of Asuna. There is a lot more that i can say but ill save that for the next comment as this one is getting long.

    Thanks for reviewing this Log Horizon. I haven't watched anime lately and would have completely missed this one.

    Great review. It's refreshing to see someone explaining the mechanics of why they actually like or dislike something rather than blatantly rambling for 15 minutes about "exceptional and complicated character development."
    Great job!

    I think *one* of the reasons Log Horizon worked and SAO didn't is because SAO tried to dive into the technical side of things.
    SAO spent a lot of time trying to explain how the virtual reality devices worked, and how they trapped people in the game, and all these other tedious, convoluted, unimportant, BULLSHIT details that do nothing except detract from the focus of the story. It had too much going on and didn't know how to manage it.
    Log Horizon circumvented that mess by just starting out in the game world, never showing the outside real world. We don't know how the people got sucked into the game, but it doesn't matter, so the story doesn't dwell on it. That's how you make a good story: eliminate all unimportant stuff.

      Exposition, when done right, can be great. SAO didn't do it right. The opening scrawl of Star Wars did it right. A few short paragraphs at the *very* beginning to set the stage, and then jump straight into the story.
      But yeah, there were a lot of things SAO fucked up, but as I was comparing the two, it occurred to me that one specific thing was to cut out the technical crap. I think that was a smart move on the part of Log Horizon to streamline the story, minimizing distractions.

      I completely agree about how Sao was trying to do too much and why I think that the Sao light novels are far better than what the Anime tried to accomplish.

      It was also complete bullshit in terms of actual science. Like...Im sorry but no.

      Killer Orca
      Hey, when watching a sci-fi show, I can suspend disbelief about the human mind getting trapped inside a video game, if it's explained consistently. I would just rather it not be explained at all, since all that would do is detract from the story being told *in* the game world.

      jack squatt Let your mind handle it instead right? Whatever you think of is usually better than what the official thing is in my experience.
      Obviously Log handled that just fine

    SAO is good if you ignore the existence of what in my opinion is season 2. Finish episode 14 and then stop watching. Its better that way, you won't want to punch babies in the face then.

      also the fact they are not following the LN very much and true season 2 was horrible in anime and LN form but at least it gave us a villain you hate with a passion. Thankfully season 3 which is Gun Gale Online steps it up and is outright badass.

    • @0Berethor0
      @0Berethor0 10 років тому +9

      Train Hardnett It really isn't. Gun Gale online is the extreme of self insert. Everybody fights with guns, but the mc just chooses a blade weapon, because he is cool enough to deflect shots with it. It doesn't get any shittier.

      Agreed, Oberon/Sugou was my favorite part of Season 2. Had to get used to his obvious casting as villain (apparently the word subtlety escaped the A-1 Pictures dictionary), but came around to enjoying his over-the-top-ness.
      Other than that the only other thing I really liked with a Season 2 setting was the underwater mission in the Extra Edition movie.

      I feel like a minority, since I actually enjoyed the Fairy Dance arc more than the Aincrad arc. Don't ask me why, I just do. Though at least one of my favorite two arcs are going to be in this season if not both. Phantom Bullet and Mother Rosario were by far my two favorite arcs when I read them and knowing they're being brought into anime form is rather awesome to me.

    Stumbled on Arkada looking for something great to watch. Love the personality, quirkiness and general knowledge Arkada has. +1 subscribe.
    Looking forward to checking out Log Horizon. I get oh so tired of meat-head protagonists.
