Wow! This is how I fell in love with Power Query some time back. You guys are awesome and I will buy your power query book soon. I will expect Chandeep's book as well.
This one video has more value than most of the PQ/M courses available at the moment. Thanks to the all of you for the great examples and explanations. Clear win for Melissa. She is just next level in this game.
Thank you Chandeep, Rick and Melissa for creating this outstanding content. For those of us who truly enjoy crafting solutions with M code, this video is a masterclass. I’ll likely need to watch it twice before applying these techniques to my own projects. Keep up the great work! I highly recommend The Definitive Guide to Power Query (M) by Rick and Melissa to everyone.
This time Chandeep got some serious competition. I loved what Melissa did with file path as that creates nuisance. Also, Rick's date sort trick and list accumulate function was great. Chandeep was great too. Going to grab the book and waiting for Chandeep's book.
Chandeep - You organized a great competition. Thanks for all the fun that let us learn from each others. Love how you and your team got the visuals together too! ❤
Thank you Chandeep to bring Melissa and Rick on your channel, and thank you, Melissa and Rick, I'm one of your fans, and all privided tricks are so good to know. Finally thanks you, Chandeep, for the valuable content you are keen to provide to us🎉...
These three are some of my favorites: I bought Chandeep’s course bundle over a year ago and Melissa and Rick’s book when it published. I am just starting to watch this tricks battle now - will come back to vote after I’m done!
I think you are all very very good, masters of M . I follow all of you , but Chandeep is the one who gave me the most in all these years. The way he makes me understand M code is unique
What a competition! This is a unique program. I have already watched your previous two such competition videos which were with rick and chando . Chandeep you are master of M language. I have a little bit know how about M language and am learning from your videos. Your style of teaching is very unique and using of M language functions in your examples is very impressive. Rick and Melissa are indeed very good and have full control over M language. Thanks for such a impressive and knowledgeable video.
I love how compact Melissa's solutions were. Ricks month name sort was so cool. Chandeep - it is amazing that you can keep nesting and nesting functions. Hard to pick a winner, but I am going with Melissa because I think I would be able to use these solutions. Marvelous session. I am the real winner learning from the 3 of you!🎉🎉🎉
POV: This is a professional way of exchanging expertise. No one proves to know more than the other - it's all constructive complements. I learnt a lot by watching videos like this! @GoodlyChandeep, thanks a lot for making this happen.
Interesting! Three of my favorite M legends are featured here. More than 50% of it was new to me-I learned a lot from it. While I admire all of you, in my opinion, the first rank would go to Mellisa, the second to Rick, and the third to Chandeep. Of course, for some tricks, the ranking might vary, but overall, this is my perspective.
Absolutely enjoyed your works...so if i rank it....Melissa was the soul here.....Rick was all brains....and chandeep the body ...you took as 3 levels of M where there is a practical approach..and one which is the core understanding of concept....and then a level which is of absolute control on {M}onkey...you know what can do more
Outstanding, three talents of your calibre together is really something. I am sorry, but I am not able to rate your tricks because I think they are something ‘marginal’ in comparison to the beauty of your people, in comparison to the beauty of your conversations and the feelings of generosity that you express. I am sure that when I need to, I will run to retrieve from the video this or that trick that will come in handy, but I can never forget your expressions, your conversations. Thank you for sharing. See you soon. 👍👍💪💪🙏🙏
Great Trio. You make a great team. I already have Definitive Guide by Greg Deckler|Rick de Groot and Melissa de Korte. It is a master-piece on the journey to M code in Power Query. This has been a great presentation. Thanks.
Hello to all three masters in one screen. You all have done the best tricks in which it's hard enough to decide who have win the battle Chandeep and Melissa.
I do like the 'projection' its such an easy way to select columns, I've never figured how it works, I did think if Table [Column] = a list and {1.10} = a list then [ {1..10}] = a table; nope. Just to add one of you should do something on lazy / eager evaluation with regard to data types and when you need to use Table.TransformColumnType as opposed to just defining it in the code
Amazing video!! I have the book, barely on the 2nd chapter, but tons of good stuff for a beginner like me 😅 It's unfortunate that the book is not in color, I would pay even $100 extra for the book. The online copy is nice and appreciated but I really wish the physical book had colors especially on the M-code snippets.
Rick - what are the steps that look like lines in your query steps ? I have a guess but would like to hear it from you. I also saw Melissa using function acronyms to find them! This is in addition to all the other amazing things. I can't choose a winner!
Do you ever worry about breaking query folding with more complex M or does the reduction of transformation steps produce greater gains than folding the query back to the ERP DB?
In some businesses you don’t have the luxury of working against a DB data source and rely on exported data to Excel or CSV files in which no folding occurs therefore different techniques can produce the same results yet some are more performant than others - trial and error is the main way to determine best performance!
🙌🙌🙌 : so so good : it's just a condensed & fusion of 3 genius best tricks presented in very pleasant, instructive & practical way Only problem fo us, is now just the time needed to remember all of this & be able to reuse it effectively. => for sure this is going to generate a buch of reviews of this YT video : already add it on top of my favorites ones about M Thanks a lot PS : There's of course NO winner for me between you 3 : as the only real WINNERS are your viewers
Q: On Rick's first Trick, why were there so many spaces after the comma in the MyList Arguments? Of course, it wasn't a mistake, I get that... But, what is the purpose? Amazing "battle".
Hi Rich. Are you referring to the part at 16:22? If so, I add indentation between arguments to make it clearer where one argument starts and the next one ends. It's purely meant is visual help and does not lead to any differences in how the code performs. Cheers, Rick
@@BIGorilla Thank you for the reply. OK, I was talking about line 5. But, I see that it makes sense on lines 23-27 (etc). I learned something new. Will share it with my class this week. Cheers! -Rich.
@@richbrooks6657 - ah those lines. Those were some leftovers from copying the code from another query. Each item in the list used to have a place on its own line. And in those cases I like to align all the first and second items within the lists. Hence the spaces 👌👌
