As a car enthusiast, I am always moved by auto innovations. In Nairobi Kenya, you just can’t walk around and fail to notice the Matatus. They are very colorful and noisy that you just can’t ignore watching when you meet them.
Out of curiosity to know how it all started, I met Keem who decided we take a tour of the assembly plant to see how it was built from the ground up.

I remember when the heavy tuning culture of Matatus started in early 2000s, I was just a young boy in school but all the kids knew the latest matatus weekly with the loudest music, cool rims, big wheels, and best graffiti by name, it was an honor to board the coolest ones. then brag it to your peers. Long live Matatus

I remember them in the late 80’s and 90’s but the government of the time banned the multi coloring, loud music and exterior lighting. The makangas were also made to wear uniform. Back in the day they also featured US basketball professional teams.
Matatus have been pimped since 80s. Ask older folks like us.
That’s unique to kenya, personally I grew up doing the matatu pimping job. I enjoyed it everyday

The Matatus are very impressive and when I lived in Nairobi they were interesting to see. I didn't know that the Matatus started their lives as trucks apart from a few that look like trucks I thought that they're were built as buses originally. I loved Kenya and I miss Nairobi too

It will take less than six months to recover and start making profits until it is old to go back to refurbish again spending millions...it's all in the name of getting customers quicker and faster..that's why the go also fast

When you are in kenya i would wish you to interview me on electric vehicles and matatu, the kenyan problem is listening and knowing too much... ive walked in this industries since year 2001, walked in and told them this is wrong they dont listen
