On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.

I just want to take a second to appreciate the level of preparedness you take it to in order to give us Contant to watch. For those of you who don't understand. I would say easily 60 pounds worth of gear he carries each time he goes into these mines. Back in about 2013 a friend and myself explored some abandoned mines sites around the Capitol reef area of Utah. If you do not bring the gear, it's not anywhere around for you to go and get. Some of these mining sites are at least 150 miles from any type of civilization or small town gas station country store whatever. You have absolutely zero cell phone reception, so good luck calling for help unless you've got a CB radio or satellite phone. And the fact that he does this by his lonesome self man versus mine. I do not recommend anybody go into any mine by themselves no matter your experience level. This guy is a mad man for going in by himself but I'm sure he is very well-connected as far as letting people know where he's going when he's going where he will be how long is expected to be gone and went to send a search party if not back by wihen. This is by far in my top five favorite UA-cam channels I am subscribed to, and I anxiously await each episode. If you are ever in the Tennessee area, there are quite a few mines and just my town alone that I would love to show you. There are 1850s to present call mines salt peter mines over 1100 documented mines in White County Tennessee alone.😅 some of them have been absolutely fantastic. Although there are some that are illegal to go into because of hazardous conditions with radon and other natural poisonous gases that occur. Which is why I don't recommend entering any earth cavity without proper training and equipment.
“Gly”: I try to keep it under 50Lbs but your right, this time it was around 60 with much of that being water weight because I knew it was going to be a long day.

Cougars do not bury their scat, that was a cougar den for sure. They like to eat prey in dens and then move on. If you find a "litter box" of smaller scat in the sand, there is a more permanent bobcat den nearby.

The mule deer got into a fight with a desert tortoise. They both were fatally wounded in the battle! Haha. Well, probably a mountain lion. Yep!

When I lived in Alaska, I learned that the climb down was more dangerous than the climb up. Going up I can see where to put my hands and feet. Going down, I can not see where to grab or step. Up there, I also learned that the frozen ground would thaw and have a greasy sheet of mud on frozen ground later on the way down. That is really tough to navigate. Thanks for the video Gly, George.

I think that carcase was a young Mule, killed by a Mountain Lion and dragged into the mine. Then all the hangers-on come in for a bite! Great explore Gly! Lovely dry mines, unlike ours here in UK, mostly flooded, all wet through so you can't see the veins!
Adventures with you are always exciting! I have to say I get so anxious watching you walk into the face of being a possible meal. When you say things like, "Well this is a crumbly cave!", I hold my breath thinking how long it would take someone to find you and rescue you. Im always praying you stay safe and don't run into any harm whether animal, geological, or from criminals. It gets my mom heart working overtime... Like a kid that holds its hand up to cover their eyes and then peeks through the cracks to watch. Be safe out there!

The last time I was watching one of your videos I had a stroke. That was Sept of 21, less than a month after I got my second covid vaccine. I hadn't seen one of your videos since. When this one popped up I was really reluctant to even watch it because of the stroke I had. Lucky for me the stroke did no damage at all. I think you are blessed that you are able to explore these mines like you do. I'm sure you have to be in pretty good shape. Be careful in there.

Your doing a service for people who cannot travel to see such undertakings, and would never walk into a crumbling old mine. Think the skat and carcass was a big mountain lions meal....!

Bud, sure looked like javelina scat to me, and a large bedding area in that first left hand pocket. They leave a very musky smell, and I've seen them around portals before.
The little deer probably went in on its own if I had to guess.

“Gly”: Sometimes animals will go into mines a short distance to escape the summer heat. Like burrows for example.
With all the scat you were coming across I think it might be a pack of wolves drug it into the mine and use the mine themselves as we all seen lol

Good to see you. That was a definite bear I have ran across kills like that before in the woods while helping dad or gramps when they were falling timber logging. They are most dangerous when guarding a fresh kill or cubs so you got lucky because it had been there long enough for the bear to have eaten all it wanted and had moved on however it may return to den up for the winter. Keep a close lookout around the area happy mine exploring. See you next time

One question for you… do you have a giger counter that you could also carry on your belt just to see what the background radiation is in these excursions you go on? I think it would add an element to the videos as well.

@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces I definitely noticed that!!! Also you very rarely ever get the drone's shadow in any of the footage. That also takes commitment and some skill to try to make the drone invisible.

I wish a studio would sign you or a rich person would adopt you, then you could use a helicopter to get to unaccessible locations. Not saying you couldn't ever climb up, but then you still want to fully explore the mine/s without burning half ur energy just to get to it. It amazes me the amount of tunnelling for the comparatively little stoping/big haul, then divided by the yield from the ore removed, it seems an awful lot of hard manual effort for not a lot of gain

How do you get the drone to follow you when you are driving? (I know nothing about drones. Just curious) However amazing and beautiful!!

That deer was probably dragged in there by a dogman so he could take his time munching on it then deposited the remains on the floor after it went through it's digestive system so you got double wammy aroma lol.

My best guess on the deer: I think a bunch of animals (all types) were all having a party in there (all the scat on the ground). The party got out of hand and a fight broke out. The deer you found was the casualty of that fight and after the fight, all the rest of the animals fled the scene. You maybe should have flipped over the carcass to see if you could find the murder weapon. My best guess.
