Christine McVee, was pretty much the "Songbird" she described on their Rumors LP. Of that version of Fleetwood Mac she wrote most the material which became top radio/MTV air-play. Then again she wrote/co-wrote most of their material in that time.
Just off the top of my head these are some of what she wrote or co-wrote:
      As Long as You Follow
      Behind the Mask
      Brown Eyes
      The Chain
      Don't Stop
      Everywhere
      Friend
      Got a Hold on Me
      Hold Me
      I Do
      Isn't It Midnight
      Little Lies
      Love in Store
      Love Shines
      Love Will Show Us How
      Oh Daddy
      Only Over You
      Over & Over
      Over My Head
      Save Me
      Say You Love Me
      Skies the Limit
      Songbird
      Temporary One
      Think About Me
      Warm Ways
      When The Train Comes Back
      Wish You Were Here
      World Turning
You Make Loving Fun (Likely their biggest selling hit song, which was written and the lead vocal was by her )

Christine came first, as early as 1971’s Future Games, although she did the cover art for the band’s previous album Kiln House from 1970. She get unfairly overlooked, and her songs from the beginning are beautiful. If Stevie Nicks is the manic pixie dream fairy of the band, Christine is the Earth Mother, seeing things with a clear eye and no illusions, holding everyone steady beneath their feet

The great thing about this band is that they had 3 different singers who would trade lead singing. Stevie, Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham were all in the band together and each sang lead on their own songs and backup on each other's songs. And all 5 member of the band are still alive. You should try one of Lindsay's lead vocals just to hear how the band sounds with a male lead. "Go Your Own Way" or "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow" were two of his bigger lead vocals. And if you listen to "The Chain" you can hear how tight they sing all together.

Better watch out Amber, Stevie has a magical mystical quality about her that kind of turns young men into rabid fans. The live version of this is also great, she really goes badass especially in the end of the song. In England 1967 a singer / guitarist named Peter Green recruited Mick Fleetwood (drummer) and John McVie (bassist). In 1970 John married Christine Perfect (keyboards / back-up vocals) and a couple months later Green left the group. They were primarily a blues band at that time. They hit the British charts in 1968 and just continued to greater success. Up until 1974 the band had various other members in transition. Bob Welch was a member from 71-74. In 1974 the band then recruited Lindsey Buckingham, who only agreed to join only if they would bring on Stevie Nicks. The band leadership was actually Mick, John & Christie, but Buckingham / Nicks gave the band a new rock infusion and Buckingham's composing contributions cannot be understated. - - I had always kind 'poo poo'd' Nicks as a member. I liked Christie's voice much more and felt that Nicks could only play a tamborine and sing of course. But I softened over time and Stevie's froggy voice grew on me over time.

Christine McVie joined the band in 1971, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined on New Year's Eve 1974. Stevie is very much still alive and part of Fleetwood Mac (as is Christine McVie), in fact, as We speak, she's recording a full length album/soundtrack for a film series about this very song, "Rhiannon". She was commissioned by Warner Bros. to make a movie depicting the Welsh Folk Mythological character of Rhiannon -- The Mare Goddess -- in 1978, 2 years after this song/single was a blockbuster hit (in 1976). If you want to hear how glorious Christine McVie's voice and songs are, I recommend, "Say You Love Me", "Come A Little Bit Closer", "Everywhere", "You Make Loving Fun", "Little Lies", "Hold Me", "Only Over You", "Isn't It Midnight?", "As Long As You Follow", and, "Love Shines".

Remember that Fleetwood Mac had three different lifetimes. Peter Green formed the band in 1967, naming it after the two people he wanted to join - Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. They were a typical late 60's British Blues Band producing hits like "Black Magic Woman" (covered by Santana) and "Oh Well" Green succumbed to LSD (much like Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys).
Keyboardist Christine Perfect joined during the transition and eventually the guitarists/vocalists included Bob Welch, whose version of the band included hits like "Hypnotized" and "Sentimental Lady".
Finally, they recruited Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks ( who had previous recorded an album together) to produce the final version of the band - Fleetwood (drums), McVie (bass), Perfect, who married McVie (keyboards/vocals), Buckingham (guitar/vocals), Nicks (vocals).

  • @MrDiddyDee
    @MrDiddyDee 2 роки тому

The guys on that album cover are the constants throughout the band's career, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie, the amalgamation of their surnames giving the band it's name. They started in 1967 as a blues band with fabulous singer and guitarist, Peter Green, who went on to take the band into new directions with a string of hit singles 'Albatross', 'Man of the world', Oh, well', 'The green Manalishi' and 'Black magic woman', all stunning tracks you should check out. Singer/songwriter Christine Perfect married John McVie and contributed keyboards (uncredited at first) to those early Fleetwood Mac albums, so she was first to join the band. Peter Green left in 1970 after having mental problems due to a bad acid trip, although he did return for a short while until they found a replacement for him. The current phase of the band from 1975 onwards was a massively successful reboot when couple Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were asked to join the band and brought a whole new dynamic with their own style of songs and close harmonies.

A quick group history. They started out as a British blues band named after the rhythm section Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. By 1970 Christine married John and joined the group, and the original guitar players/singers had left. In the early 1970s they went through several guitar players. In 1974 they asked Lindsey Buckingham to be the guitar player. He agreed on condition that his girlfriend and singing partner Stevie Nicks could also join. That is the lineup that has maintained (through several breakups) since.

One thing to realize for new discoverers of this music, there are founding members and members who were added later. The name Fleetwood Mac comes from the names of the founders (Mick Fleetwood and John & Christine McVie). They didn't replace Christine with Stevie, they added another powerful vocalist. Although this lightened the workload for Christine's vocals going forward, she was still as heavily involved in the writing and production of their material. Bands like Styx have done this a lot, bring in new talent when it is capable enough to lift them to a new level.

Mick Fleetwood started the band with Christine and John McVie. They were an all-English blues/rock band with other members including Peter Green. They released several albums in the late '60's/early '70's. They broke up and Mick, John and Christine moved to L.A. and added Americans guitarist Lindsay Buckingham and singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks. Their first album together was a big hit and their second Rumours was one of the biggest selling albums of all time.

This was a HUGE!!!!!!! hit in 75-76. This is basically the third edition of the band Fleetwood Mac, with the arrival of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, and this version of the band's first hit. Nicks and Buckingham had been and at this point in time were still an “Item” (musically and romatically). They had recorded and put out at least one album together. When Bob Welch left Fleetwood Mac (version 2), the band was looking for a guitarist and composer and Buckingham filled that bill very well---they also got Stevie Nicks, which added another dimension to the band and its sound. Christine McVie was in the band before both of them joined (she was married to the bass player).

A semi-condensed history of Fleetwood Mac in one giant paragraph: The original lineup in 1967 was Peter Green & Jeremy Spencer on guitar and vocals, John McVie on bass & Mick Fleetwood on drums. Danny Kirwan joined as the third guitarist and vocalist in 1968. Peter left in 1970 and after one album as a 4-piece, Christine McVie officially joined on vocals and keyboards (she had been playing piano on their recordings since their second album in 1968.) Jeremy wandered off while on tour and joined a cult; he was replaced by Bob Welch, guitar and vocals. Danny was fired in '72 due to erratic behavior from alcoholism; he was replaced by Bob Weston on guitar and Dave Walker on vocals. Walker lasted one album before they realized he didn't fit. Bob Weston had an affair with Mick's wife and got fired and then their manager sent a fake band out on tour using the Fleetwood Mac name. After many lawsuits to straighten that out, the band moved to America and made one last album with Bob Welch, who left for a solo career in '74. Mick heard a recording of Buckingham Nicks while seeking out a new studio to record the next album. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined on 12/31/74. This lineup made 5 studio albums and a live album, despite all of their relationships blowing up. In '87, Lindsey refused to tour behind the latest album and after a huge blowout fight in from of Christine's house, he quit. He was replaced by Billy Burnette and Rick Vito. After an album and tour with this lineup in 1990, Stevie quit, and Rick was asked to leave. They were replaced by Bekka Bramlett and Dave Mason. Then Christine quit the band and we thought Fleetwood Mac was over. Enter Bill Clinton, who used the song "Don't Stop" on the campaign trail, which resulted in a reunion of the classic Buckingham Nicks era lineup. This was followed by a live album and tour, after which Christine's fear of flying got the best of her and she left again. Mick, John, Stevie, and Lindsey made an album as a quartet in 2003. Christine returned to the band in 2015. A tour was planned for 2018, but after Lindsey openly mocked her onstage at the Music Cares award ceremony, Stevie decided that 40 years of putting up with Lindsey's abuse was more than enough and refused to share the stage with him ever again. Mick, knowing who brings in the money, fired Lindsey. He was replaced by Neil Finn (of Crowded House) and Mike Campbell (of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers). Awesome tour with no one staring at anyone else like they wanted to murder them (watch any video of Stevie and Lindsey during "Go Your Own Way" and you'll understand). I really, really really want the current lineup to do an album, but we'll have to wait and see.

They shouldn’t ignore the pre-Buckingham/Nicks era. I particularly like Black Magic Woman, and they were still performing Oh Well when Billy Burnett was part of the line-up.

The Original Fleetwood Mac came earlier and had a very different sound. They formed in London in 1967; founded by guitarists and vocalists Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer and drummer Mick Fleetwood. Later John McVie joined the line-up

I love Fleetwood Mac, with "Tusk" being my favourite album (the way it strictly alternates between ballads and uptempo numbers for all of its 20 great tracks is something rarely heard on an album). It's a shame that the genius of Lindsey Buckingham is no longer present in the band (Neil Finn is a great artist, but it's not the Real Mac(tm) without Lindsey). As compensation, I picked up 3-CD deluxe edition compilation of Lindsey's solo work to remind me how good he is.

The live version is the one I hoped they would react to. Search "Fleetwood Mac -Rhiannon (official video)". From 3:20 on, probably the best live performance I've ever seen. Buckingham going crazy on guitar and then quickly changing pace to Stevie at her witchiness best.

Fleetwood Mac had a revolving door of band members back in its beginnings. But the mainstays were Mick Fleetwood, John McVei, and Christine Perfect. Christine married John and became Christine McVei. Then, Mick asked Lindsey Buckingham to join the band as the lead guitarist. Lindsey said he would do it only if his girlfriend, Stevie Nicks, was also brought on board. Stevie met Lindsey at a party when she sang with him.

When Lindsey was accepted into the band he wanted Stevie to be part of the band as well. From what I remember that is.
Mick Fleetwood and John McVie make up the band's name Fleetwood Mac.
Christine McVie went solo after the band broke up . You should check out her songs as well.
