- Unboxing and installation of the Govee Outdoor Light Strip.
I installed the 'Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights' on the house recently and now it's time to add the 'Govee Outdoor Light Strip' to the garage.
These lights are great, they are easy to install and once installed they can completely change the character of the house with all the built in scenes.

Great video Ian thank you, I can confirm they have modified the kit now there is a plug on the switch end before the light strip. (I did purchase the 20 meter option though) a lot of great info and hints and tips that made my install much smoother, thanks again.
Thanks Ian. Great video.
Yeah I wished it also disconnected the lights from the box too! I bought one for my camper for my awning not realizing it don’t detach from the box. Can’t use it bc u can’t roll the awning in with the box or it get caught in the awning and ruin it!
I'm surprised nobody has commented on your Bokke jersey to pair with your English accent. Go Bokke!
Wow
Good video thanks. The wires are such a faff, Govee didn't really think it through did they! I've installed a new outdoor socket outside and will be running the power supply and switch inside an adjacent connected empty junction box.
Then I'll be feeding the LED strip out through the junction box gland and then behind the walls and benches. FAFF but I like problem solving!
My question is what was your spacing for the clips running the whole 10m?
Thanks for the comment! I completely agree, I connector somewhere between the light strip and the switch would have simplified the install significantly.
I spaced the clips evenly along each run, on the front of the garage that worked out as spacings of 80cm (~32”) and on the side 60cm (~24”).
Good luck with your install!
My current garage and house lights works with a light sensor. Could I add those led lights to work the same way (get the power from the same line) and when I want, through the app to change the colour scheme?
Where did you find the dream view festival Christmas option ? I looked through the whole app couldn’t find it
DreamView is 2nd from bottom option under the home tab. Once in DreamView, Festival is the very right group in the first section.
How to add more light together Through one app control
I just ordered these on Amazon. Do we have to use the screw in clips or will the adhesive work just fine by itself? Or are the clips just for the corners?
I suspect it would be fine with just the adhesive, especially if the surface you are sticking them to is smooth and clean. I decided to use the clips just in case.
If you had to do a 100’ for a house. How do you have to set up to make that work? If you can’t connect them?
@@mackunruh9109 same you would do it for 100 feet for the other type of permanent lights Govee offers. It’s 3 sections plugged together. From what I’ve gathered you can’t order each section at a time and just combine them. Other Govee products work like that but not this. If you get the 60’ish feet one then that’s all you get and cannot add more. Sucks but if you are interested in the 100 feet one but think “hey Amazon has a sale on the shorter one….I can just combine them!” Then you are SOL.
@chriscurtis83 you have a link for the 100’ one? I heard the power source is in the middle so it’s not a full 100’ it would be 50 one direction 50’ in the other direction
I bought two 65ft sets. l believe each set is two 32.8 ft. strings that connect together. Does anyone know if I can string them all on one power supply and controller, or if I have to use 2 power supplies and 2 controllers. (note, I believe the 100 ft set is 3 strings of 32.8 ft. (98ft).
Do you put the strip lights underneath the outside of the house or do people put them around the house on the roof side
That's what I'm wondering. My mom wants to put them underneath
I feel the lights look best if they cast light onto something (for example the outside walls). For that reason I installed mine under the soffit facing down the wall.
Thanks ian i had been wondering how to handle the corners
No problem 👍
Can the strips be connected together to make longer strips
Unfortunately it’s not designed to be extended. The light strip is inside an enclosed waterproof case so you would need to cut that open if you wanted to extend the strip.
How long is the power cable for plug to first. Strip segment
I can't measure the cable exactly as it's installed in the garage, but from what I can measure the cable is just a little more than 3.3m (11ft) from the power button/control unit to the start of the LED strip.
Hello Ian, what are the dimensions (width & depth) of the strip? Thx
It’s a little difficult to measure the LED strip accurately now that it’s attached to the garage, but I think it’s about 12mm wide and 4mm deep (including the 3M tape). The clips are a little bigger in both directions.
Are these meant to be up year round?
Yes, they are designed to stay up permanently.
