    Toby thanks for the video - nice boat for Northern Europe. Some comments from viewers about number of height / steps changes - will be interesting to see how you think that comes into play whilst doing a sailing review :-) .. have you ever reviewed / sailed the SIRIUS line of boats, particularly the Sirius 40 DS - with twin keel can dry out around the Scottish coast - looks great for northern waters.

    Absolutely stunning joinery there. But, no port holes down below! Feeling seasick already down there.
    But, absolutely beautiful work.

    Disappointing cockpit as a result of that raised deck to facilitate the berth below. The step down into the after deck seems nearly optimized for tripping and falling over the aft lifelines. Surface look is good but I'm not sure I would want that cockpit arrangement.
    The galley is also somewhat of a lacking space given the price point. There's very little countertop to speak of.

    0:40 - 1:45 Just listen to what he says. Production builders don't want to move bulkheads. THIS is a premium price yacht. BUT (yes, BUT!) they are customizable. And you can repeat it BECAUSE it has a long list of options. If someone sees logic in this word salad, do let me know. Hard night last night, huh, Toby?

    The height limitation in the aft cabin is disappointing. They need to have a complete PH station, The Moody 41 DS has the same short coming.

    That Starboard side winch did not seem it left much room for the lines to clear that combining, so for the Port side did they move the which outboard or use a opposite-winding one?

    Why would I but one of these over a Moody DS42 which appears to have a much more practical and modern design? Moody might not be as flexible in their approach to bespoke design. Yes there's no doubt that the traditional finish is impressive in its craftsmanship but as previous comments have pointed out this yacht appears traditional and old fashioned. Thanks for the video I look forward to seeing your video of the sail trial.

    Considering, what kind of product, that they offer, which is extremely high quality hand build boats to customers specifications in almost all details, the price it not high at all. You can not compare this with a production line boat, because it isn't, and it is actually cheaper than many of the boats from the real competitors to Nordship, which of course would be all the likewise high quality Swedish boat builders, such as Najad and Halberg-Rassy and also boats like Moody and Sirius, which boat are deck saloon boat builders too. The Moody 41DS is almost on par in base price, but is absolutely also much less customer configurable, all the others mentioned is half a time more expensive in base price. That said, personally I like Sirius a whole lot more, and it is every bit as customable on all aspects. For instance, all three models from Sirius can be chosen with either a fixed keel, a retractable keel or twin keels, and the two latter types can dry fall. Nordship has decided to offer a line of boats, which can compete with even the best of production line boats also when it comes to performance, which I actually think is a shame, and that is, why I like Sirius more: They perform well enough, but are build for ease of use and stability and are also that bit taller. The latter means, that Sirius really has manages to build some crazy roomy boats in the class. I have never seen that much space in a 40 feet monohul, as Sirius offer with their 40DS, which for instance can be offered with three full size double cabins (only the aft one not with standing height in at least a part of the cabin) and also a so-called man-cave underneath the saloon: Essentially a complete workshop, which also can accommodate the laundry onboard. You really should check out Sirius too, if you like these deck saloon boats and are interested in one at high quality and fully customable. One thing Sirius for sure got over Nordship is, that the saloon is taller with more vertical windows, which means, that you fully got 360 degrees vision in the saloon, which you clearly do not really in Nordship. Not to bring Nordship down: Nordship has just valued performance and sleek lines a bit more, that I would prefer. I have also seen videos with both Sirius and Nordship boats under sail, and though both performed well, I sure took note, that Nordship keeled almost as much as a racing boat, which Sirius absolutely do not. I personally could do with a knot or two in cruising speed and have a more comfortable ride like that instead.

    Impractical. Lots of steps. It is for yacht shows.

  • @Muratshayev
    @Muratshayev Рік тому +18

    With all due respect ... In the 23rd year they did not learn how to make portholes in the cabins. The shape of the bed in the forward cabin is from the Middle Ages. Also the seat at the helm, which is always uncomfortable to sit under any tack. To go to the toilet, I have to either go to the farthest front or the farthest back of the boat. It all looks like an old and very expensive pub on the water. Which now also does not sail anywhere, because rails for genoa are not provided. And as they wrote above, this is really a fork of another yacht. But this does not apply to the review itself. Toby, thanks.

      You had probably never met the *very cold* Northern Atlantic Ocean in the high latitudes.
      *Very good* insulation and port holes are incompatible as well as ice and port holes are incompatible.

    • @Muratshayev
      @Muratshayev 9 місяців тому

      @@charonstyxferrymanFiberglass boats are generally not used for sailing in the very cold waters of the North Atlantic. Where it is possible to encounter ice, sailing is only possible on metal boats. For example Alubat, Bestevaer. Which, by the way, have portholes. As for this boat, in this price segment, even the very classic Halberg-Rassi now has windows on its sides. Portholes can affect the strength of the hull and can cause sealing problems if the hull is not strong enough. But certainly not with cold water, sorry.

    • @mikedevlin2048
      @mikedevlin2048 8 місяців тому

      It’s a custom build… if you don’t like the traditional interior, choose something else… you want portholes, specify them….

    If you deeply keel the mast and headsails you could sail faster and upright with rudder control. The headsail could be to windlass near the end of the boom and still have rudder control.

      I'm sure you can beef up the thickness to 120 mm steel.
      I write 120 mm, because the owner of Kraken Yachts thought he hit a whale at full speed in a gale. The 120 mm wide skeg made out of steel was bented.

    This eulogy may be appropriate for the build quality but the design is a mish mash of what the shipyard thinks will sell and YW selling it as such is inappropriate. The internal design as shown is confused and would be uncomfortable in anything resembling a difficult sea.

      I'm a big fan of Sirius Sailboats, but tbh, have turned off Deck Saloons, as I'm heading for hot, tropical Climates, Deck Saloon "Greenhouse" Heat is as bad for the Sauna like temperatures below, as the Centre Cockpit Sweatshops I've een on efore, so for me, it's back to a Sailboat with a large Comfy aft Cockpit which also brings with it easy transition from Dinghy to Cockpit, and back through the Cockpit for easy transition unto the Dinghy, plus the huge benefits from an aft Cockpit Solar Arch, with Dinghy Davits, but that's just me. If sticking with colder Northern Hemisphere waters, this would be an excellent Boat, but sadly, I'm in desperate need of a few years of Tropical heat, that isn't like being in a Finnish Sauna (apparently the hottest Saunas in the World, but with Snow outside them to roll in to cool down. 😅😅😅 Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️ PS, a friend who was so ill with it, he proved that ME was a real disease, and in a wheelchair, a Finnish Lady he later married, talked him into going to Finland, saying there was a chance their Saunas might Cure him, so he went. less than a year later, he was out of the Wheelchair, and was able to start Working again. I don't have ME, and that sort of heat doesn't help me unfortunately. Ho Hum.

      Their treatment of the inuit people of Greenland is shocking. They tried to stop them having children by secretly putting coils in young female Greenlanders without telling them or their parents what they had been doing and once they grew up they wondered why they couldn't have children.
      Another thing Denmark did was to remove children from their parents, deny them the right of speaking their own language or learning their own culture and bringing them up as Danish people. All this was so Denmark could once agasin regain control of Greenland.
