I agree with this completely. I like my farmertec saws. I have 3 and am ordering more. They're great fun saws. And I'm learning about porting and experimenting with it. I'd rather screw up a $30 cylinder than an OEM cylinder and I don't have to rely on it for a paycheck

I’ve had the Farmertec G372 for over a year with 6 cords of wood under its belt. No problems yet (cross your fingers). I’ve had the G660 for 4 + years now with countless milling hours on it with zero issues. Maybe I’ve been lucky, maybe I know how to run and take care of saws.

There are several folk on utube who run them and claim decent longevity bucking and chainsaw milling for the price point - they also know how to wrench on their own saws and maintain them, adjust the mixture correctly and run a sharp chain. I have only worked on a g372 clone and after some swaps to oem parts its a decent runner for the cash. Like Tinman said , I don’t think I’d recommend a built one to a tree-service or logging company other than as a backup saw. For those situations (running many hrs a day everyday) get a pro saw and “buy once cry once”

I have and use the G660 pro and the G111 top handle saw and they both work great and perform as expected. The only changes I’ve made to them was changing out the chain tighteners and using OEM parts and they’ve been good ever since. Also, changed out the pull cords but that’s because I have a certain rope I put on all my saws and to the length I like them at. They are great for back ups and well worth the price in my experience.

I picked up a G660 kit a few months ago to build and use it as a learning platform. The casting on the cylinder was so bad I had to clean up intake and exhaust ports just to use it. I also blended the bottom of the transfers to smooth out airflow. I pulled the baffle out of the muffler, match the gasket, and the muffler to the exhaust port, and opened up one of the two exhaust ports on the muffler a little. I put it together and fired it up and it ran fine for a few hours, and then it wouldn’t idle, was struggling off idle and it wouldn’t tune, I found the leak, split the case and put it back together with a highway gasket kit, I also put an OE keyway on the crank. I took it to a local builder to double check my work, it tested good but still wouldn’t run. It ended up being a bad carburetor. So I put an OE magnum carburetor on it, now it runs like a champ. It’s been a fun toy but I’m glad it only cost me about 250 to get the parts kit. Between tools and parts I’m in about $600. A few hundred more and I could’ve bought something OEM. But this isn’t a production saw, it’s more of a toy, so I’m happy to put a little money into it here in there to turn it into whatever I want it to be. But I wouldn’t want to rely on it to make me a paycheck.

I bought one of the Holzfforma g660 Pro models and I've put a decent amount of use on it in the year I've had it, at first I was quite skeptical...
But the more I run it the more I like it. I bought mine pre assembled, checked it over but didn't tear it down as I didn't see anything concerning. The only things I've changed is the muffler, and I deleted the decomp. Overall I have to admit, for someone like me who only needs a 90cc saw occasionally, this is about the best value you can find. I'm fairly certain by the time I break this one, it'll have made enough money to buy me a real 660 or 395...

I rebuild them with good quality parts, I could build two pro saws for 400-500$. now where I live there is a lot of chainsaws, so I usally never pay much for a carcus saw, and sometimes people just drop saws off at my house.

"Life is like a box of Farmertec, You never know whatcha gonna get" They're great for those who like to tinker and for personal use. You'd hate to build one of these "on the clock". Most of the parts are close to OEM and sometimes that's ok for non-critical moving parts. But it's a real pain trimming and tweaking pieces and parts to work smoothly when OEM works the first time, every time.

Question: What fuel mix ratio do you recommend on these? On these Farmertech/Holzfforma saws I see they call for 25:1 fuel/oil mix ratio. Everything else I have that is 2-stroke is 50:1. 25:1 seems strange to me.

I think the farmer tec is the best option for milling you are using it extremely hard so you aren’t destroying a vintage saw and you aren’t blowing up a $1200 new saw you can build three for the price of a new saw. I built a 372 farmer tec with a OEM crank I had kicking around I replaced the bearings with ceramic bearings used a hyway piston and cylinder big bore 75cc and a OEM carburetor and it is a awesome saw I did a very mild port job opening the transfer and got the exhaust and intake duration a tiny bit better than stock and that saw is a work horse. For a serious build they are pretty much just a starting point and I use just the plastics fasteners and the cases

I was obsessed with Farmertec/Holzfforma saws this fall. I so badly wanted a big blue monster saw. Fortunately I let the obsession go and it was probably a wise choice. Perhaps one day I'll buy one, if I have money and time to burn. I'm not a saw builder (yet). Mostly wannabe.

The metal the chinese used is muck cheaper than OEM. I have a Husky 50 I bought in about 1985. The only non original motor parts are the plug and fuel line. It’s on bar number 4 and about chain number 45-50.
There will never be a Holtzfforma that lasts that long.
Now if you want to change the rotating assy and carb with OEM it will last a lot longer.

so in my hot little hands i have a 288 cylinder and a 395 big bore cylinder ( 58 mm ) ...... the deck height may be different on these saws ( but that shouldn't be a big deal ) , but it appears to be a dam near direct bolt on , the 58mm , 395 cylinder onto a 288 chassis , which would turn the 288 into just over a 100 cc saw ...... i still need to go outside and find a 288 chassis carcass and degrease it , to bring it inside to start taking some measurements .

I built one of these, the only part I added was a Caber piston ring. It runs great but it has less power than my OEM 372xp. So if you want a 20lb saw with less power than a 72cc saw this is the saw for you.

I can agree with you that farmertec is a lower quality but for the price hard to beat, i dont care for the prebuillt, like anything the operator determines how long it will last

The only aftermarket part I use Internally is Meteor pistons. I had great luck with these. The only time I use Meteor is when OEM is not available though like a husky 254. I dont use aftermarket cranks, or cylinders. If I cant find OEM it will be parted out or go to the scrap pile. I cut 300+ face chords of firewood a year.

Buy a $150 Echo CS-620 piston/cylinder and send him that Timberwolf, it will be a good saw that will take a beat down!! Haven’t had luck with any of the china junk, won’t work on them.

They are cheap hp. I just snagged a 660. Will help keep some wear off my smaller saws on the real big stuff. Also a great opportunity for someone to really learn the ins and outs of small engine repair and have cheap parts to fix mistakes. I think anyone whos making a living with a saw would know enough that these arent for them.

OEM has QUALITY CONTROL, Unnamed Parts can be a ???, because of the Unknown!!! OEM QC has testing, extreme and has the 3 F's = Form, Fit and Function!!! To alter a Clones could have the 3 F's but I wont spell it out the same on you friends @Tinman's saws channel, ha ha ha!!!

I love most of your videos, but I hate hearing you telling people to support Chinese junk. Those saws always have problems, and are poorly built, probably by some 4 year old. Go buy a used, reputable branded saw. At least when you fix it, you’ll have a quality saw, manufactured by a reputable company. Stop supporting these Chinese knockoff companies.
Edit* that’s awesome how you go through the parts of the saw and basically call them garbage haha.
