Nice! As an American who lives in a small Russian town not far from Vladivostok (about 40 km), the opening part where he describes the problems with "Kruschevkas" is extremely accurate, as I rent a flat in one (3rd floor, one room). Drab 5-story concrete panel building, hearing (usually drunk) neighbors arguing through the walls, and a horrific sewer smell in the stairwell. Very accurate. Moreover, the part about most of the tenants living in them because they received them in Soviet times is true as well. All of my neighbors either are old or they are younger, but inherited the apartment. And the old lady who lives next door is incredibly rude to me due to my nationality, and often reports me to the police for things like flushing my toilet late at night, or hearing my washing machine, or hearing my girlfriend when we're having fun, or the fact that I'm American and don't belong in Russia, etc. Luckily, the police don't care and have assured me that she is just a crazy old lady who they don't take seriously.
