I once had a solo-Pala HU player that told me: Go TC + HH spam. I feed you.
He didnt train a single unit except peasants. I had so many HHs.
      It was an easy win.

About the Stormgate thing. Its about readability. Currently in Stormgate, the readability of units is quite low. What does that mean? When a unit attacks, what sort of feedback do you get that lets you identify whats happening. Audio and visual feedback on if a unit is/isnt attacking, if they are taking damage, if they die, if they use a skill/ability, etc. I can take a look at WC3/SC/SC2 and KNOW when a unit is attacking based on feedback. If I'm not looking at a Huntress, I can still know its attacking because I can hear the attack being made, and it hitting. If I see a Marine attacking, I know its doing damage even if I dont see it. But its not just that, when I hear a sound, its distinct and unique to that...thing.
However, Stormgate fails at this. Unit identity is already low, and ontop of that the audio and visual feedback is almost non-existant (audio mostly). When my units attack, I cant identify whats attacking based off of audio, and its difficult to tell whats attacking based on visuals because the attack animations and movement animations are so close to eachother.
    Thats my Stormgate issue.

i feel bad for lancelot..he got ran through 3x in a row.
reminds me OG roc ladder where you could match an opponent +/- 5 lvls or i think 7 levels was the cap.
and there was no time restriction if you just played someone.
it eventually led to people constantly /whois my account to cancel their solo search.
also you just beat lancelot/mers and now its 2nd game vs mers in game 4.
but as i was saying, pre patch 1.15 in wc3, people cried SO HARD on forums (mainly US west and some of US east) because they were HARDSTUCK at the FIRST skill hump of lvl12. where losing actually had consequences (exp loss) and if you lost 2-4 times in a row depending on level difference you could drop to 11.
which gave you incentive to play better and improve so you could win consecutive matches to get to 13 and beyond.
the 2nd skill hump was from 20 to 21 and above. then
another would be around 36 ish.
Asia was the ONLY server to EVER get a Solo level 50 account. Euro i think got to lvl41 or 42.
US East was at lvl32 or 33 (Beverage, newbelf player i played against a lot and i think the last we played he had +1 win over me in our all time w/l ratios but we didn't match a lot since i was lvl26 and the 4 people between him, he was rank 1 and i was rank 6, at least 3 of those 4 people got banned for maphacking. one of which was ds.p(0)rco i think was the EXACT account name.
my other accounts were also in top 20
my undead only account was at 87-0 solo lvl22, ranked around 18 i think? idk why.
and my first ever account which went from a negative win rate (below 50%) all the way back up to 91% which is EXTREMELY HARD TO DO due to the fact you have to play SO MANY GAMES and NOT lose.
i will also never forget the first 3 games i EVER played on wc3 roc
first game was against "caster craft" orc where he just rushed tri hero and casters and i had no idea what to do.
casters back then, as you Grubby probably know/remember, had piercing attack (high attack too), and medium armor i believe.
they were HARD to counter since going HH/Archers/Fiends/Gargs/Dryads/Rifles/Motars/etc did NOT do extra damage to casters due to medium armor.
2nd game was against MASS AoW on that weird Garden of War map. i had no idea what to do and tbh i don't think i remember the race i had. it was either elf mirror or i picked orc.
oh i mixed up first and third game.
third game was caster craft on garden of war (same map i got mass AOW rushed when AoWs maintained Fortified armor when uprooted, and he went t2 to get building upgrade armor).
First game however was on Lost Temple, my favorite map on RoC 1v1 to this DAY. Close second is either Plunder Isle or Legends if i'm Newbelf or Orc.
If i'm undead its almost guaranteed having to go dreadlord and FAST creep 6 for infernal if you're vs human or elf.
and either creepjack mid, or prevent the first nightfall of towering mid.
rush to t3 for gargs and take mid on 2nd day break. where you transition into garg/ghoul or garg/fiend with DL/DK/Lich, upgrades are essential.
IF you're vs Human on legends back then and UD, or newbelf, you most DEFINITELY must NOT let them get mass towers because the strat would focus on fast expo + tower massing and building armor upgrades.
then tanks tanks tanks tanks tanks.
    war of attrition.
for UD you'd get ghouls, spirit towers, meatwagons+disease and a couple frost wyrms to slow them since there's no nerubian towers.
for newbelf, you have to build extraneous AoWs and uproot them to take less dmg as uprooted AoWs now have heavy armor and would take less dmg from siege.
plus glaives and bears and eventually meta/starfall and chims.
in human mirror it comes down to hero wars.
    usually blizzard/stormbolt/holy light timings.
    casters/knights/towers.
i had a TIGHTLY TIMED build order for legends as newbelf for years where i could get mid by the 2nd-4th dot on first night. and get lvl6 on DH by bottom of the first night or if unlucky/creepjacked/bad micro etc
    3/4 first night.
build aow close to the green camp and zep camp / shop, clear the green by luring the creeps with Archer and letting the AoW hit 1-3x while you set down 2nd moonwell, then continue building 2nd and 3rd archer since this build has a semi-late altar andby the time DH or POTM comes out, you have 4-5 archers, and a 2nd AoW building at the merc camp opposite side of base to set up expansion and then take mid air camp and then the other two red camps = lvl6 before end of first night.
at this point you can continue upgrading units or attack and use your Meta or Starfall.
with 2 aow, t2, +2 attack potm aura, and range, you do well. however if you're vs orc or hu, your starfall can be interrupted. but back then you could invuln pot while starfalling and when that was removed, it was automatically DH.
for Orc, i also had a super TIGHT build in which blizz took 2-3 seasons to fix the altar/burrow placement in the gold line where you could have 4 peons movement as green "extra fast" making MORE gold income than if you had 5 peons. i think if you had a 5th back then with the right placement, they would go from green/very fast to red/very slow. if you didn't use that placement they would have normal speed and you'd need a 5th and the only difference ultimately would be the timing of your wyvern's venom upgrade and +1.
since i could get out FS/TC/6wyvs/+1 attack/venom upgrade before 2nd daybreak on ingame cloc you see in top middle.
I got SO WELL at memorizing creep patterns and then EXCEPTIONALLY well at memorizing specific PLAYERS' creep patterns. which led to a LOT of people accusing me of maphacking but nope. i never once cheated in wc3 or any game i've ever played...
i didn't even know where the maphackers even GOT their maphack program or the various different types of hacks that came out over the years of RoC that was an awkward time.
Blizzard was going through a huge transition while juggling the release of TFT, patching/balancing/banning cheaters on RoC, while releasing WoW as well... on top of being bought out by Activision which was a true nightmare honestly...
Anyway, tons of people stayed on RoC for MANY MANY YEARS even after TFT was released, and it took a LOT of convincing to get people to play FT (including me) as well as playing WoW since that was my first MMORPG.
i did eventually play OG WoW but man, it took me a month to get to JUST lvl20 on my first character (tauren druid i think? or warrior. one of those) and it was just eating WAY too much time and was NOT as fun since i was solo playing... which really sucked and sucks to this day. i hate playing by myself on games intended to be team games.
so i eventually went to FT once i met people i knew on RoC and we'd take our ventures to FT and of course first account was abysmal but once i got it, there was no stopping it. had one account i'd play everything on, then I'd dedicate accounts to just one race. which had incredible win %s

This is on W3Champions, which allows AT vs. RT. However, they do compensate for it by matching RT teams with slightly lower MMR AT teams. I believe their data showed this made the AT vs. RT winrates very close to 50%. Of course, in this case, Grubby and Knoff are just super underrated MMR-wise, and will be stomping pretty much anyone they get matched up against. But that's not an AT vs. RT issue

Nah, I understand you getting used to it, but who ever says flaming gets worse the more voice you add is wrong. My experience has always been that more voice there is, more we humanize each other and therefore less needless flame.
Sure, ONCE someone decides to flame you, voice chat can help them be nastier, but guess what, every game like that has one button press to mute them.
People are weak and negative experience based. They'll remember one guy relentlessly hounding them in voice chat (despite mute button) with outstanding remarks but will not notice how there are many more enjoyable games because of faster communication, nor remember 10 convos with randoms that were rather pleasant through that same voice com.
This is the same rhetoric people used to not get voice chat in LoL. Oh no, you're a woman and via voice chat you'll hear something misogynistic once in a while, or you're black and someone will call you hard R sometimes. Mute, report, move on, and enjoy what voice chat gives in other 90% of the games.
But no, Western zoomers (or possibly millenials but more likely young people in corpos) act as if you get called one slur over net that will somehow damage you so much that you'll have to book therapy, which is only level of meekness that would justify not wanting more communication in any team game.
    Life's though, get a helmet.
    Edits:
39:20 you prove my point. That team games are better with voice chat, but you "like your peace" in wc3, which is perfectly reasonable, but as I said, habit.
41:36 "No one to backseat me on why I threw the game" is such a weakling take. You should be backseating yourself, and if you know you didn't throw it, then you should learn not to take every criticism from people who don't know what they're talking about. If neither others nor you analyze what went wrong, then how can you improve? And that's your answer, people who say these type of stuff aren't there to improve, but to have some ephemeral idea of "fun", while wanting to keep up cognitive dissonance about how their throwing diminishes fun from other 4 players. Then why play team games, play stuff you play alone, or play casual in mind games like Minecraft with friends. Best part is, YOU CAN STILL MUTE THEM.
Learning to hear an unreasonable person out and then going "nah, they're full of sh*t" and ignoring their criticism is valuable skill you should learn in life, cause it's going to happen often in person. Learning that over internet games is like taking a vaccine, you won't see them anymore, you can mute them, you can block them. Can't do that in real life.

This is a lesson I partially learnt thanks to DOTA2 but it remains hard for me. It's hard for me to filter " nah they're full of shit" quite quickly, but it's gotten easier

TL;DR Putting this in front cause another long comment, hammering the point about how mics actually humanize people, despite some bad experiences you're bound to have with voice chat.
I never played DOTA2 but I have played League for over 10 years (thankfully clean of it for over a year) and let me tell you, I both was receiving toxicity and WAS toxic a lot. And ooh boy is it actually harder to tell someone to grab a noose when it's a living talking human being in your jungle informing you in real time what they're planning to do next in the game, or informing you about enemy jungler/laner's position.
My point is, not only does it help competitiveness by allowing faster flow of information, but it's actually mentally way harder to spiral into death threats. There are things we don't type, but still mean a lot. A laner who just died 3rd time in 1v1 on opposite side of the map is one thing, but that same guy with whom you talked in whole champion select and couple of minutes too, just a simple *sigh* from him, not even words, show that he F-ed up, and he knows it. At that point, it's pointless to even say anything, because despite no words, you know what's going on with your team mate.
Meanwhile it's far easier to see someone go 0/3 in lane, you exchanged no words prior to this, and to start asking him is he for real or what, what is he thinking? Then people get defensive, because they know what they have been trying to do and it was risky, but you don't, and you can only see about 15% percentish of it at most, since you're busy with your own job. So then they respond with ire to protect their ego, you explode with comments and it's a feedback loop.
One *sigh* and it defuses the whole situation. Even if the person gambled your whole game outcome on that move.
Here's the caveat though, it only works if people are actually trying to WIN the game as a team. Not if people are escaping into that game just to get a break from real world so the winning isn't important. Then shouting at someone for 10 minutes because they're wrong gender, nationality or race could seem like a cathartic experience. But my point still stands about that situation, mute and ignore, 9 times out of 10 the yappers just stop yapping once you stop listening. Best part, by not engaging, and letting the person tire out with pointless angry comments, the other 3 people on your team are naturally going to be on your side, so you even "won" morally by not being unreasonable.
That skill really does transition to real world too, one of the few ways I could proudly say that playing games made me a better person outside of them. Second one would be not beating yourself up from not knowing something from the start. You need to invest time in next hero or champion, so you expect to need guidance and to be subpar when you start off. That same cool helps you learn to drive, lay bricks, wash clothes etc. without pressure to already know what others already know and was "common sense" to them, but it wasn't for you cause you started life later from all the games xD
P.S. Thanks for reading my mini essay I guess, I'm not used to people reading 5 paragraphs of my comments in comment section that's consisting of comments 10 times shorter than mine.
