Try a %100 natural bristle brush. The tips are finer than man made nylon or polyester and it will hide the brush strokes much better, leaving a more slick and “laid down” finish.
You should tell the people the difference between gelcoat and flowcoat... if you use gel coat without a mould it will not set... flow coat is for redoing an exiting surface.. Gel coat is for a new build. This needs FLOW COAT not gel coat.

I have sprayed Gelcoat mixed with Ferro brand "Patch Boost" in an Acrylic mini spray gun to blend in repairs into existing Gelcoat on boats. You have 10 minutes before cleaning the gun out with Acetone. Works a charm. If you are recoating an entire boat, an epoxy primer with a Acrylic Polyurethane top coat is the better finish. Flat and high gloss mirror finish straight out of the gun with no refinishing, that is as long as you avoid runs. Any colour you like.

Two-cloths solvent wipe + sanding to key the new coat + vacuuming. I would use 80-grit for a better key...gelcoat is so thick, sanding scratches wont show through, unlike lacquer or enamel, and you are going to finally fine-sand it anyway.
