The costume drama series, Downton Abbey, written and created by Oscar-winning writer Julian Fellowes, stars Academy Award-winner Maggie Smith as a Dowager Countess of an Edwardian English country house in 1912. “Isn’t she marvelous?” You can hear Mary’s love for Anna.
Violet: "Life is a game in which one must appear ridiculous"
Richard: "Not my life"
Violet: "Could've fooled me"
Carson picking up and coddling Baby Sybiee is one of the Best and most underrated scenes throughout the entire series. ☺️
So true
I imagine him doing the same with Lady Mary.
Carson was such a stern and unforgiving man, but him with a whittle baby just warms my heart, you can tell he felt a great amount of love for the family and the kids especially
He's loved them all and their children too! ❤
@@joandeimling7681Yes ❤
I watched every episode. Best TV show/drama ever filmed. RIP Downton Abbey!
Merry Christmas. I NEED SOME DOWNTON HEAD FRIENDS, guys! I have none, and im obsessed. Im alone today, and instinctively woke up and started Downton again. Ultimate relaxation.
Merry Christmas! I feel the same way. I’ve been obsessed with Downton from the theme song’s opening notes. I can’t understand why none of my friends are into it when it’s easily the best TV show ever (at least, to me). No other show has ever touched me as this show has. 🥰
“I know I can trust you to steer” 😂😂
Happy Christmas 🎄 and Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄I love watching this show Downton Abbey
👋i hope you're safe over there? I hope this year brings happiness prosperity love and peace 💞❤️🕊️🕊️ all over the world! Happy New year 🎆 🙏🌍
I'm originally from Canada currently living in California ☀️☀️and you where are you from if i may ask?
The only missing moment is the old booby proposing to mrs Hughes definitely one for the books
Jaja que tierno se ve carson con la niña. Es como si fuera el abuelo se calmo enseguida con el jaja
Loved it over and over again
And then there's the season 3 Christmas special 😥🔫
Tip: Just stop watching when the fancy sportscar starts driving down the road🙈🙉
👏👏👏👏👏
Why is she named Lady Mary Crawley during the proposal? I didn't notice before but isn't she supposed to be "lady Mary Grantham" and become Lady Mary Crawley after she and Matthew got married?
No, she was already a Crawley…family name and Grantham is the title.
Mary and Matthew are distant relations
I love the part where they have underpaid servants, half of whom can’t barely read, catering to their every whim. And the best part - in that world, they‘re doomed to remain house slaves until they die.
Why don't you just go cry about it awhile in one of your Safe Spaces, and then come back here.
You'll feel better after a good cry!
I don't need to cry. I live in the only direct democracy in the world. From my (Swiss) perspective, most of the world is savage.
@@Der_Dolmetscher Switzerland is a partial direct Democracy and a partial Republic, since it has a parliament.
But my recommendation that you should go have a good cry, stems from the fact that Downton Abbey, being historically accurate, seems to hurt you in some way.
The people who had work in the "great houses" actually considered themselves fortunate. Their jobs had far more security and chances for advancement than many others. My own grandmother born in a workhouse looked fondly on her time in service. Of course it wasn't quite as lovely as Downton but let's be honest it is partially escapist fantasy 😊.
"I know I can trust you to steer."
😂😂
I literally just realised that it was a chauffeur joke lol
@@fabulouschild2005 She's the Queen of the Quips for a reason. 😂
Some scenes feel so fresh even when watching them after so many years ❤️
This series will always be close to my heart ❤️
Yes, they bring back some memories.
I love the banter between the Dowager and Tom.
She would deny it, but she wanted at least one dance, and he happened to be an available young gentleman. How could she get him on the dance floor without asking for the dance? Why! put him in a place where he would need to challenge her and her assertions about him! And he will think it was all his own idea! 😁
A classic Dowager move 👌
I know I can trust you to steer lolll
For some inexplicable reason, my eyes start watering every time I see Anna spin ‘round to face Bates after he whispers, “happy Christmas.” Must be winter allergies or something in my eye…. 🥹
Same. My husband is an OTR trucker and the first time he came home, he kept it a surprise. Everyone in the building said they heard me scream (in exuberance) when he came in the door. I tried to jump up onto him but hit my thigh on the door handle. It was a softball-sized hematoma that took months to fully go away but every limping step of it was 1000% worth it. I love this scene so much 😊
Whenever I want to leave the trials and tribulations of the here and now, I turn to Downton Abbey for a brief respite. It never fails to entertain, surprise, or move me.❤❤❤
The Dowager Countess always had great lines and great come backs 🤌🏼🧿❤️
Downtown Abbey is absolutely wonderful and in my honest judgement wholesome and clever as a television show.
No matter how many times I've watched this show, I could NEVER get enough of it. I will always long for more Downton ☺️
Me to
@@michellemirembe6057That's - me too.
"Well done."
"But you didn't sound drunk at all, how'd you do that?"
"Concentration." "You forget I was trained as a solider."
He was starting to look a bit worse for where when he said that!
Definetly Matthew's marriage proposal to Mary!
*definitely*
"You know yourself, we carry more luggage than the Porters at King's Cross."
"You've lived your life and I've lived mine, now it's time we lived them together."
Yes, Yes, Yes!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Carson and little Sybbie! ❤
The marriage proposal and Bates coming home on Christmas to his Anna....still bring tears to my eyes. They are such beautiful scenes.
You know you've found the one when he looks at you the way Bates looks at Anna.
Can confirm 😍 may we all be so blessed
Isn't hard to understand why Downton Abbey is so addictive. There's so much happening you just need to know what will happen next.
I love how the Grantham family values and treats Anna like their own. Anna is one of the best characters on this show who reminds me so much of Lady Grantham characteristics…compassionate, merciful, gracious and kind hearted
I love Carson holding the baby clip. It's adorable. Is it Sybbie?
Yes. That's Baby Sybiee. They ended up spending most of the afternoon together. At least an hour or so. Mrs. Hughes discovered them together in the library after she returned from running an errand in the village.
@@m.layfette6249 aww. That's so sweet. I love Mr. Carson and thank you for answering
@@larissaandrea613 You're welcome. They should really do a video all about Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes. It's the love from the Downton Abbey Fandom that they finally took a trip down the aisle. 💝💒
The scene with Carson and Sybbie reminds me of the moment Lady Sybil died. Carson was lamenting "I knew her since the day she was born." Now he is holding her baby in his arms. Tears running down my cheeks.
Such a gracious and elegant period in history ⚘️ it's heart wrenching to think we shall never see this again. That's why I adore Downton Abbey, Brideshead Revisited and others like it ❤️ an Age of grace and innocence
And an age of discrimination, no rights for women and minorities, no free time, hard work every day...
@@POKIWOKI3 yes, isn't it awful that life wasn't perfect back then.....too shocking
@@manusha1349 Especially for women.
@@POKIWOKI3 there's a reason for that...hope you can work it out on your own
@@manusha1349 😂
Hard to choose just one. They’re all wonderful!🤔🎄☺️
Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to all of you Downton Fans, my people!
Never saw this but love the costumes and scenes and MAGGIE
i read the will of an aristocrat before, he left his butler and cook their wages for life! which is really generous idk if it's the norm or not, but it's clear he respected them.
"How soon your maxim will be tested."
"Yes, she is Marvelous."
Мэри и Мэтью. Снежное предложение - навсегда в моём сердечке 🤍🤍
2:11 I finally got the Dowager's quip about steering! It's an analogy about driving a car! :D
Yes, that's it.
Thank you. I actually didn’t get it too 😂
I like Barrow asking Dowager to dance scene the best
Tom "Branson", not Thomas Barrow.
Merry Christmas everyone🎄♥️
I absolutely love Downton Abbey whenever I'm watching it everything in the world just goes silent
Anna and Bates are OTP 😭😝☺️😩
A brilliant series but the dowager countess is truly spectacular. Her one liners have me in fits e.g. What is a weekend? 😂
This scene with the proposal and that music just sweeps me away ❤️💙
DH&I have wildly different favorite types of TV shows, but we watched D.A. every Sunday evening for 6 years and went to the theatre to see the 2 movies when they each came out.
We don't talk about Series 3 Christmas special
Merry Christmas to all souls
Carson might be a stern, unrepentant snob...but the one thing you have to give him is that he loves the Crawley family, especially the kids. He might have had trouble accepting Tom moving into the family, but he adores little Sybbie. ❤
Lady Mary Crawley???? Not yet Matthew - shouldn't it be Lady Mary Grantham???
Hi how are you doing?
Her last name is Crawley...her father is the Earl of Grantham. That’s a title, not their last name.
@@gailwebb9619 Thank you so much for the information.
@@franklinstephen3268 You are reported to UA-cam for spamming harassment of females in the comment columns.
Enchanting Downton Abbey, especially Christmas 🎄 Time 😉
The best moment is missing - Carson finally proposing to Mrs Hughes
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas 🎄 to All and to All a Good Night!
Anna not telling Bates that she loves to dance because he cannot…
So much attention to details, yet modern Christmas lights😢
Some of the older cast members look so young here
I also love the music fading when Mr. Bates looks at Anne and they look at one another
and the door closes as the music fades away.
why do bates and anna make me cry every time i see them
"Yes she is marvellous" if this isn't my relationship I don't want it.
🤗 💗
Rose on the dancefloor is me every time Whitney comes on. 💃
Rose had her "Cinderella" moment in the arms of a prince. Coincidence? :)
The scene with Carson and baby Sybbie, was that when Nanny West was still with them?
Nope. When Cora tells Robert that she have asked West to take a hike, Robert said something about not another one. So it is implied that the employment (and mistreatment) have not been going on for a extended period of time.
The way Bates looks at Annba with such love ❤️
No sabia que era tan viejo el juego digalo con mimica jajaja
Wow the dowager actress has rly aged
Love me some Anna and Bates scenes. So much sap I'll stick to the next thing I touch, and may that never change.
Good response
Sorry I really don't like watching it this way cuz I loved watching it in full
Startling that Cora can sing that song, she is a Jewess in this series.
So, she’s been married to a Christian man for more than 30 years, raising Christian daughters. Also, she was never that serious about her Judaism; only her father was Jewish.
Jewishness is determined by the practice of Judaism. It is a religion, not an ethnicity, let alone a race.
You simply cannot pass a religion through the gene code. Despite what many people may traditionally think.
@@flyboy152 I agree with you.
However she has had many English/British Christmas' by this time.
I remember so well rushing in from work on a Sunday evening just in time as the credits rolled and my daughter setting me down a wee glass of bailies to watch my beloved Downton Abbey ❤️🤍💙
