Hi William - Here to help! The first step is to open the door and make sure that the key cylinder is in the unlocked position. Next, insert the 3/32 allen wrench into the hole on the bottom of the lever, and rotate the allen wrench to loosen the set screw and remove the lever. Swap the exterior lever with the interior lever and reinsert the allen wrench to tighten the levers on. The instructions on how to reverse the handles are terrible. Also my handle came with an allen key but one of the set screws needed a t6 star bit that was not included. I never did figure out reversing the handles and returned the item.

To tighten the lever, first, open the door and insert the key into the cylinder to unlock it. So this is merely the manual in motion. How the hell do you switch directions to install on the right instead? (Meaning I’m standing looking at the front of my door and the handle is on the right. While the inside handle is on the left) Both of my set screws are on the top of the handles not the bottom. So visible. How the hell does this happen? And I have 2 right handed handles. On outside of the door, handle is pointing to the left. But on the inside the only way it can be installed is with the handle point towards the damn latch?! I’m furious
Hi and here to help! The set screws for the SmartCode 917 are reverse threaded and pre-installed in the chassis. On the exterior shaft, the set screw is backed in from the bottom up, and if you look at the top, you will see the backside of the set screw. To remove the levers, open the door and insert the key into the cylinder to unlock it. I can't switch the outside handle from left to right. When I turn the key, the handle turns with it. Therefore I can't finish the installation

@@kwikset that exactly where the problem is. the key won't turn just the cylinder. The handle turns with it

just bought one but the inside door handle lever screw won't turn to hold the lever in place. The lever outside is ok. I have to ask for the exchange
