I really benefited from your tutorial, THANK YOU! I could say that out of the box what I expected to easily maneuver through the settings was not very simple. But now I see why its laid out the way Casio designed it. Accessing the bank settings properly gave me access to more sounds. The multi zone settings to blend different sounds together is amazing. After watching this video I now have the right frame of mind to enjoy this amazing piano.
i just bought this keyboard.. and ill use this forever.. maybe 20 years.and ill buy again a casio px 30000000000000. good job casio.. im a korg and roland user before. and still keeping those keybord. but now let them stay on the case. hahaha
Is there any future option for a sheet music holder? Would be ideal, especially for those of us who might keep the piano on a desk instead of a keyboard stand.
just bought this keyboard. Thanks for the terrific training. Wish I had received this kind of training on my Kurzweil K2600. Your a good educator. Wish Casio has spent about 35 more dollars on the case. It looks cheap. I kind of hesitated to buy as this model is a few years old, but latest and greatest doesn't help if you can't drive it. Again THanks
This keyboard is phenomenal! I especially like the way it is laid out very much like a top-end Kurzweil (pc3 series). The slider functions; the tone bank logic, and the tones, in general, are of such quality that this board rivals keyboards priced up to $3000+. I have a Kurzweil pc3A8 for my studio and i wanted something inexpensive that wouldn't be totally different. Imagine my surprise when I discovered this little gem. Casio really did their homework with this release - I now have the Kurz for the studio and the Casio for gigging, and for fantastic additional patches for recording. Thank you Casio and thank you Mike for these tutorials! That's another thing in common with kurzweil - they too have an extensive tutorial video series for the pc3.
Outstanding resource.thanks mike.ive just bought a px5s ( November 2019) to replace my Yamaha moxf6 because of resources and help like this and the potential to really get to know and grow with an Instrument.. Great stuff!!
Great video and super-informative for the power-user. But piano is a tertiary instrument for me and I just want to have a few commonly used tones like piano, Rhodes/Wurly, organ, and synth available with one easy touch of a button. Without having to sit through the whole hour... How do you change the name of a stage setting?
Hi, I have Casio Privia Px 5s with me and I use it as a MIDI Controller. It has lots and lots of knobs but somehow in my Logic Pro X , only the pitch bend works and the modulation is most probably is at S1 and Mod Wheel lowers the volume or probably cutoff , that's it, nothing else, whereas otherwise in the real world, every knob works. People on Casio forums have not been totally helpful. Could you help me with this problem?
Pranav Chadha the function of the Knobs, sliders and wheels is partially dependent on the Stage Setting you're using. Then those have to be mapped to whatever instruments you're using in Logic. I'll find your thread on the forum.
I NEVER HAD A CASIO BEFORE ALWAYS HAD YAMAHA MOX8, KORG KROSS, ROLAND V7. MY QUESTION IS CAN I ADD THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE AND USE THE CASIO AS MIDI CONTROLLER WITH THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE?
Hello Mike. I was wondering if Casio has put out a smaller non weighted keys keyboard consisting of the same sounds of the PX-5S. ps. with the same hex deal.
hello!I've use this keyboard two years,it's nice for stage! But,I want to know if it will add mono mode in the future? For playing some lead sound,it's...uh...a little bad...
If anybody is still monitoring this video, how do you enter/modify the name of a phrase you've recorded? The User's Guide (Basics) that came with the unit sends me back and forth between pages E-11 & E-10 in an endless loop. On E-11 the enigmatic qualifying phrase "If the data lets you change its number or data name..." appears, and I have to assume it's possible to change a new phrase's name from "Untitled" to something else, but nothing I've tried brings up the character display on E-10. So, how do you enter/modify a new phrase's name? Many thanks in advance!
Hi, thanks for your tutorial. I’ve a question: is it possible to load a sound (falling water or wind troughout trees) into an usb pendrive and play it with the PX5S? How can I do it? Thanks a lot.
Fabio de Oliveira Vasconcelos Santos in the future im sure casio is working into that. Let us be patient and wait for the upcoming keyboards from casio..
can you see the values the effects have for any stage setting? Say I'm on SS 00, and I want to move the attack slider to see what that sounds like but then I want to move it back to it's original value, is there a way I can tell what value to put it back to?
Great question for the facebook group! If I remember right, you can change any parameter back to its default value by pressing the "-/No" and "+/Yes" buttons at the same time. They are located at the top right corner, right next to the "Num Key" and "EDIT" buttons!
serchinnho not sure if you are following me because I can't see how that does anything. Say I turn an EQ knob, how do I know what EQ to turn it back to?
zoellapetite Yeah, got it, I misunderstood. When you move a slider or a knob and you see a little window popping out with legends such as cut off, filter, delay, eq etc you're editing the stage setting in a very temporal way. As soon as you change the stage setting everything goes back to normal. Those changes are applied "on stage". If you want to edit a stage setting you need to press EDIT and start changing parameters from there, then even if you change the stage setting, when you go back those changes will still be there, that's when you can press the plus and minus buttons to change back to default the last one you modified. As an example, on 0-0 slider 1 is cut off, move it as you like. Now, go to EDIT>Tone>Filter. The first parameter is cut off. It doesn't matter how much you move the slide the Cut off number in the Filter envelope won't change, that means the slider is just a temporary change. The same applies also to the knobs, of course. Hope this helps!
I have a question: when using the px 5s as a midi keyboard, I noticed that the stage settings were affecting the quality of sound from my apps (keyscape, ravenscroft, Korg module). For instance, it will sound different concert grand vs layered piano.. is there a way to turn this off? I don't want my stage settings to influence my vst
A Stage Setting can have up to 4 zones. If you're controlling external instruments you want to make sure that you use a Stage Setting with one Zone and that the internal tone generator is turned off unless you want to layer PX-5S with your virtual instruments.
@@israeljohnson3844 It is a Zone setting. EDIT ->Stage Setting->Zone Edit->MIDI Edit We recommend you visit CasioMusicForums.com for more detailed assistance.
hello sir. i just bought a casio px 5s. MY QUESTION IS, ARE THESE KEYBOARDS GONNA LAST FOR 20 years( moderate use) like the korg tritons and korg trinity.?

They establish a UA-cam channel to sell these, then answer 2 out of 15 questions over 4 years. Just disable comments Casio Music Gear so people won't waste their time asking you annoying questions.
I found the PX5s to be overly complicated. Just going from one sound to the next, and back again sends you off some other direction. I was so frustrated I was going to sell it. I have 2 Kronos and a Triton but the PX5s is to me, so unintuitive that I rarely end up making music, I spend the time trying to figure out the settings. I appreciate that Mike has posted a lot of instructional UA-cam’s about it but there are so many asides in every sentence, that it rarely gets to the point. Going to the forum doesn’t get to the point either as every user has a different level of experience and objective. Ive owned it 3 or 4 years now and it has seen one gig and spends most of its life in the closet.
Yes I intend to buy the piano but that is also my concern. Very complicated with numbers and zones etc etc ... I think it needs a thorough study first. But there are not really good understandable videos ... all complicated. I am now thinking about what to do. First I thought of the Korg Grand Stage 88 ... but I think this one is worthwhile ... beautiful sounds but I fear it too: complicated.
Yeah, unfortunately Casio has some great ideas, but they don't really implement or describe them so well. This keyboard/synth has a LOT to offer (it's deep!!), but they just didn't design the user interface so well, nor does the manual provide enough detail (it's NOT deep enough!!) to really help easily navigate the PX-5S interface. For people on a limited budget and the patience to dig into this, this is really a great synth. Otherwise, not so much.
Having never dove that deep into my PX-5S (I mostly use it for the weighted keys and piano despite the fact it's a fairly programmable synth), I thought I would revisit and get more familiar with a few tips provided by this video. After a few minutes of watching this video I was blasted with an advertisement. Seriously? In a tutorial video by the company that is selling the keyboard??? Hopefully it's just because Mike Martin played some cool Pink Floyd or Genesis riffs (and the video was hijacked by greedy music licensing companies), but if Casio is actually monetizing their own tutorial videos for gear they are trying to sell...well...that's pretty forked up. C'mon Casio, you can do better. I'm going to stop saying nice things about you on my channel, if that's the case.
@@casiomusicgear No foul on you guys then. I don't monetize my channel either, but in one video when I showed several small clips of a several different bands playing, I was surprised by ads popping up in my video. I was automatically hit for copyright claims, two of which weren't even accurate. Somebody claimed some Genesis song in the video was from some other song and band I'd never heard of. UA-cam really needs to get this poop together regarding false copyright claims. You are forgiven, lol! And thanks for all the great walk-throughs on this keyboard. It makes up for the less-than-complete PX-5S manual. Cheers!
It's 2020 and I will buy this terrific piano!
