      40+ years parts and service dept. at GM dealerships, tells me you'll head down that road. A lot depends on the dealership. Cold air intakes and cat back are usually no problem. Big power adders and tunes be prepared, especially now with the EPA requirements.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  2 місяці тому +2

      @larrynewberry3500 definitely. The biggest part I wanted people to take away from this video is the fact that cold air in takes and cat back exhausts are probably safe or at least on the safer end.

    That's one reason I am only going to do high flow filters when available and maybe a catback. I could get a free CAI, but I don't want to risk.

    The Ford dealership that I go to for every service done on my Focus RS tried to play that game with me. My regular service advisor was out that week and some other dude was trying to tell me that my A/M intake caused the turbo to “over boost” and the wastegate clip came off the actuator. The second I said boost is controlled by the ECM and I have a stock tune then he changed his tone and go “I’ll check with my shop Forman”. An hr later got another call from him saying “you’re all set. The clip is covered by warranty”. 🤦🏻
    Gotta be careful with some of these advisors. They will do everything in their power to try rip ppl off by telling the customers that is not covered by warranty.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  2 місяці тому +1

      That's the sad reality of it. The dealership/salesman/advisor can really say whatever they want. That's why it really matters what dealership you go with.

    There's always going to be that gray line with some dealerships when adding aftermarket parts to your own vehicle, some service advisors seem to be ok with it and others will have absolutely have no trouble voiding your warranty giving you nothing but problems. Justin I do remember a Chevrolet dealership on Route 8 located in Bakerstown off of William Flinn Hyw they would do headers, CAI, exhaust upgrades and even install a supercharger and as long as they did work your gm vehicle would still be backed by a gm warranty this dealership is now under another name.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed

    Justin, great video and excellent advice! I'm in the same boat you are...I've added the Eventuri CAI along with the SOUL Performance Products exhaust and cats. Both made a HUGE difference!
    The traditional rule of thumb (as Justin pointed out in the video), if you add "bolt-on" items like an exhaust, cats, cold air intakes, headers, ported throttle body - you are NOT going to void your warranty. If you tune your Corvette, the dealership can tell, even if it's put back to the stock tune....THAT will void your warranty!

    Great video. I think this is an age old question. Having owned many high performance cars over the years, and modifying everyone of them (except for my current ZR1),I fully understood the risk I was taking related to voiding a warranty. Dodge was very aggressive about voiding warranties when I owned my Hellcat. Sure I could have secured a lawyer and brought suit against them, but these auto companies have deep pockets with lots of lawyers. I felt I would end up spending more money on principle than if something broke bad with the powertrain. All this to say, modify your vehicle at your own discretion, and own risk.

    My salesman told me if I lowered my Z51 suspension (as it’s possible to do with no aftermarket parts) it may void my warranty. Not sure why since they built the car to be able to be lowered on the coil overs about 3/4 inch 🤷‍♂️

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  2 місяці тому +2

      Exactly my point. Each dealership is different. In my C7 ZR1 owners manual it literally tells you to lower the car for track sessions.

    • @ChopperLarry45
      @ChopperLarry45 2 місяці тому

      Simply lowering the seat of the strut spring does lower the vehicle height but it also changes the correct spring preload that in turn makes the vehicle bottom out easier . Springs replacement is the correct way and with that said correctly setting the pre load on suspension bushings during alignment is critical to suspension bushings life.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  2 місяці тому +4

      Thanks. There's really only 2 areas of any car you can increase power output on and that's the intake and exhaust. GM's hands are tied by the EPA and ours aren't so there is still power to be had in those 2 sections.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  2 місяці тому

      Yeah, that's why whatever dealership you go to really really matters!

  • @evangrimmett9327
    @evangrimmett9327 2 місяці тому

    The only thing I really disagree with are the comments on Magnusson Moss. MM is for protection when using OE equivalent parts, not performance parts. Any part that states a performance gain (HP or TQ) specifically falls under the language about performance parts in the GM warranty doc: Aftermarket Engine Performance Enhancement Products and Modifications:
    "Damage, failure, or reduced life of the engine, transmission, emission system, drivetrain or other vehicle components caused by aftermarket engine performance enhancement products or modifications may not be covered under your vehicle warranty."
    I do agree that in general, they are probably not going to deny warranty for an air intake. And GM engineers have stated at least once in public (Corvettes at Carlisle 2023) that aftermarket exhaust (i.e. catback) will not void the warranty.

  • @mitchellhuey5612

    Another way to void a C8 Z06 or ERay warranty is to purchase or win one from a give away that has changed hands before the 6 month time frame from the initial sale.

    Great video Justin.
    These are some answers to a lot of the same questions not only I have but most C8 owners.. The answer might just be do the mods cross your fingers and hope that the dealer your taking it to is on your side.. Will the mods truly damage your car and be the actual cause of the issue, more than likely NO.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  2 місяці тому +2

  • @stevepen
    @stevepen 2 місяці тому

    I feel like dealerships look for any excuse to deny warranty issues. A perfect example is the paint chipping around the headlights (which is a known issue) and blaming the PPF 🤔. I know this is different but I wouldn’t be surprised if it worked the opposite way you explained where the dealership would need you to prove it didn’t cause the issue because they know most people won’t go thru the headache to “prove” it because it’s not worth the hassle.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  2 місяці тому

      Yeah that's why I said to go to different dealerships. 1 or 2 may say no, the 3rd or 4th one will likely say yes.

    What if you exceed the suggested RPMs in the C8.ZO6 during the break-in period before 500 miles. I thought it was electronically limited to 6500 rpm but I've heard you can exceed that during the first 500 miles. Would that be grounds for GM to void the warranty?

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  2 місяці тому +2

      It could be. It's not electronically limited. It's more so a recommendation from GM. They can't limit it for liability reasons.

    Justin, Great information! Like you mentioned - the key is your "dealer"! I took my C8 in for the first service and they told me they wouldn't even touch my car now because I had a full PPF done! They wouldn't risk damaging PPF and said they couldn't help (had jacking pucks on the car too)! Had to go to another dealership to get the work done. Crazy! I guarantee if I tried to go back for warranty work it would be an immediate "NO" form them because of the Eventuri intake or something else I did...! Pretty ridiculous!

    I feel sometimes dealers will find any excuse to void a warranty. If they see an intake in your car or a catback, they might come up with the stupidest explanation on how your catback exhaust adding 10 hp voided your engine warranty because the car wasn’t meant to handle 10 more hp smfh Dealers are super slimy so tread with caution
