TFO Mangrove Coast Review | The Best Saltwater Fly Rod under $500

- The TFO Mangrove coast is the best fly rod on the market for under $500. We know that's a bold statement, but this rod lives up to it.
The Mangrove Coast is the latest iteration of the Flip Pallot designed Mangrove, that brown rod that you used to see. This new rod feels similar to that, but it's more powerful. The 60 foot cast is where this rod really shines. It has plenty of power to turn bigger flies or push into the wind, yet is soft enough to not smack the water hard.

I have the 8wt ...at first I didn't like it because I think I had to heavy of line but I went down a size to 7wt line ..now I love the rod...
How about a review for the Bull Bay Banshee fly rod?!?
Love the Mangrove Coast! Not a lot of reviews out there on it so nice work!
Thanks Thomas!
Just picked mine up and have only thrown it at the shop but can’t wait to get out on the water with it!!
I got the 7wt Man Coast recently. It felt quite smooth casting & accurate for me out to '50. My only complaint is the " full wells" cork handle is a smidgen too small for my xl casting hand. My thumb extends past the top swell a bit. I bend my thumb a little as a workaround. Other than that, it's a fantastic stick and a looker too boot.
Nice detailed review and explanation. Been looking at this and the Echo Blue Boost for an upcoming trip and you reinforced my thoughts that this will handle better in closer range. I'm coming from a trout background where I often fish glass so the bit slower action seems more fitting for my stroke as well.. I'm sold.
Glad it was helpful!
Great review!. What love you guys to review the Axiom II X as Well, especially the lighter ones.
Stay tuned...
I have my eye on this as I research my 7-8 weight redfish birthday rig. I tested it out at the shop and loved how it loads and fires, but also super forgiving
yea, you'll love it!
@@tailwaterflyshop update got one, really enjoying it, very accurate in the 40ish yard range where I feel most of my fishing is
I'm pulling the trigger on this one. But what the Hell do I know.🎉
Have one and really like it as well- what gr weight is the cortland line you are you pairing it with here?
210
Have you compared this rod to the St. Croix Imperial Salt? Not a lot of info out there on that rod either. Thanks
Hey Robb, we have not, and we don't stock St. Croix fly rods. Non specific fy rod brands (except G.loomis) can't hang with the fly rod specific brands like Sage, Hardy, TFO, Scott etc.
Curious how this compares to the Echo Boost Blue if you have thrown it?
Hey David! The boost blue is definitely stiffer and faster. So if you’re more of a beginner or just make shorter, more delicate casts, the mangrove coast will probably work better. If you fish in wind or need to power longer casts, the boost blue will work better.
@@tailwaterflyshop thank you so much. Exactly the info I needed! I really appreciate it. I have a Boost Blue as my back up 8 weight for Yucantan Bones and Permit
How does this compare to the Axiom 2?
It’s much more moderate in action. It’s going to give a more delicate presentation, but lack a bit of the power of the a2x
How does it compare to Axiom 2x?
It's more moderate in action for sure. It's much better for closer shots out to about 40-50'. The Axiom 2x can tend to smack the water hard at those closer distances. But the 2x will punch into wind better
Has cheap components
almost every rod comes with a sock and tube these days.
