Awesome Camera Man, you had. You need to hire him more
Probably so
@@HamRadio2 You mean that wasn't the wife Jason? LOL!
Lol
Best use of a chalk line winder, too cool. Just when you think there is nothing more to add in the antenna market the creativity comes out. Thank you for showing this! 73.
Ive had mine for few months. Good antenna. Used it to activate at the huntsville Hamfest in the park
I usually go all out and then do 6. Usually works. Well on 20 and 40 for my pota
The slide on top is for putting chalk inside a speed chalk line, which they used to house the antenna wire.
Yes but that chalk line is no longer inside of this enclosure
That's to let the RFI out. 😂
I have it and love it. The wire being used is so good. Tuning is very fast.
A local ham-friend of mine home-brewed something like that a while back and I really liked the concept. The reel makes setup and takedown easier if you are in a hurry. storing the antenna when not in use is also more convenient with this design. I've been waiting for someone to make something like this and sell it in the Ham community...thanks for sharing!
Thanks Rob!
HNY to you and your Family Rob. Keep up your good Work for us HAMing Birds. 73 de Uncle Günter 💯🙏🍀🛡♥🙋♂
@@DK5ONV HNY uncle Gunter...good to hear from you!
Jason, nice to hear you on the TX DMR net last night.
perfect timing! I picked up a chalk line reel the other day to make my own.
That's a great option for quick setup. Thank you for sharing Jason !
what gorgeous weather - envious of the contacts and lovely WX - its wet, very wet here in the UK...
Mine just came in the mail yesterday. I guess I wasn't expecting how big it feels in real life haha. Although I'm thinking about trying this for SOTA work too. Neat that it's tunable!
looks like a great and fun antenna to use. I am in NY and 10 meters really going. even the AM part. today was down a bit but workable. lots of great antenna's out now. love that POTAFLEX 7. works great 2 meters as well . nice park. great POTA spot . Hope to do SSTV POTA this spring/summer. maybe some 6 meters ! 73's
Looks like a fun and convenient antenna. I'd assume that you could adjust the length to make it a true half-wave on any of the bands. If so, that'd be nice for DX to set it up as a half-wave vertical on 10M or even up to 20m, depending on mast height. It should be a great takeoff angle and radiation pattern as a vertical.
It's easy to tune. And it's nice can fine tune it easy. Have enjoyed mine the last several months
That’s a nice way to deploy and recover an antenna.
I saw a review on this antenna months ago, but neglected to buy it, and found them to be out of stock. Snagged one today.
Nice little antenna 😊
Thank you for the video!
My pleasure!
My ham radio is broken it only picks up old people.
Hey, I resemble that remark!
Sideband is the ham retirement mode. 😂
I thought AM was....lol
No the younger people today are broken
My town has a pensioner bus service. That only picks up old people as well LOL
Thanks for sharing Jason, just ordered the antenna with the link!
Have fun!
I love an efhw, probably too much, however;
The problem i have is the beginning of this antenna is coiled up in an insulated choking inductor that also induces capacitance, if you don't know, most of the RF emits from the first 30% of the element, and lobes to the end of the element, it's a neat trick, as if they aren't lossy enough you gotta go choke it out, best antenna for that completely unobstructed setup there is a quarter vertical
Apparently you're an excellent sales man. They are sold out 🤑 Will have to keep an eye out to get one.
Lol yes. They emailed me last night they sold out, but more are coming
Just did a QRP activation all on 10m SSB & FT8, I was expecting to have to switch bands but 10m was rockn' .
That’s real nice antenna!! Great video!! Enjoying all the videos!!
Thanks 👍
Candada? Where's that?
It's not even a real country anyway
Love your video! you are quite professional and the suggestion is useful and meaningful!🤩
Thanks so much! 😊
The air can be it's own antenna ,wireless antenna,a laser can provide the path
I imagine that when the wire is cranked in, it acts as a end loaded end fed wire as the bit on the reel forms an inductor?
Update: Finally got the chance to use this antenna. It’s quick to deploy in my backyard and works well.
Nice!
2:33 Should try and make a list of all the equipment used in the video for the description
Thats a cool antenna. Chalk line construction flashbacks though :)
New to ham Radio... just got my technician license. KQ4NLJ
This is beyond weird! I spent two hours this afternoon researching clotheslines and chalk lines to use as a retractable antenna. I’m freaked.
Lol
Hey Jason, what Hub Caps are you using? (HI) You doing a great Job and I am glad you made it safely into 2024. Stay healthy and keep up yopur fantastic Work to make the HF Madness never stopp. Rodger? 73 de Uncle Günter from the German Frontier 💯🙏🍀🛡♥🙋♂

Love it man the antenna is working Good 💯
Good to hear
:30 in, I know that guy!
I wish the Reel site had a instruction sheet to download. Some net purchases I have made or not was after reading the instructions!
What a great idea for a portable antenna. Question, is the coax acting like the counterpoise?
yes
Very cool❤
GISP? Love that place!
4:45 - Uh, Frank looks almost just like you. Is he your twin brother by any chance?
Dude?! No shout out for Ghost energy drinks?! Would you any activations without Ghost?
Haha, maybe that's why I've been accused of talking too fast!
Link is good for
the antenna but the hitch is not available
Yeah I looked for a replacement but couldn't find one
Love those goofey faces
looks like a chalk line case.
Yes
Hey Jason. Nice job. Which rig are you using and at what power setting? 73.
FTDX-10 at 100w SSB
Jason, how did you know it was that guy's birthday?
You learn things about people when you hang out often
How easy is it to make resonant on warc bands?
Very
It's at possibile order for Italy? Tanks Marco in3ufw
yes
what do you use for power , i have a yeasu ft891 and want to get out side kd9jru
Today it was my Gigaparts Explorer battery box and their po4power 24ah battery
Jason: Must know have you tried putting the end into the water? Felix Nuevo Ano
No, that works rust it too badly
Can I operate dx with the kx3 using the mic?
Yes
@@HamRadio2 thank you I can’t wait to get my license and to get the kx3 it’ll be my “do it all” radio. I won’t be getting a amplifier but I will be getting a external speaker
Where can we buy one ?
I have 20 left on ebay
And on reel efhw. Link in description
Check the description
@HamRadio2 l was using the same antenna for the contact we made during your activation, l was running 5 watts KC0NMZ
Oh cool, stole my design directly from my UA-cam channel.
Your design? Where's your patent on this design that's been around for a long time?
@@HamRadio2 no patent ha. Not going to try and stop anybody from selling them either, just musing at the timing of this. Show me a "chalkline" antenna that's existed before I released my video if you know of one, because a huge amount of research into various reels and I never found one. I didn't sell any of the ones like this I made because of some reliability issues with the plastic reel, but I have a version two I just bought supplies to make more of and a version 3 3D modelled that I will be testing. Version 2 will be on my eBay store once I get a few assembled.
@@BucktailResearch I say this with respect, honestly - but I had never heard of your channel until you made this comment - then I went to your channel and saw you only have 16 videos, but the video about the reel antenna has lots of views, so congrats on that. But I have seen this design in the past, maybe a year ago, and never have seen your channel.
Many of these antenna designs are "copies" of one another - each has their own unique take on what is essentially a EFHW Antenna, and those are all basically the same. I know the guys who designed this specific antenna and I am pretty confident to say that they didn't copy anyone, they just came up with an idea that other Hams have had before.
Right on. I don't really like the idea of patents due to the stifling of innovation they have, and I'm certainly not going to try and stop someone from innovating their own variations. Motivation for continuous improvement. And as you said, mine was a variation of a reel type military antenna I found from decades ago. Shortly after I made mine, wyoming_survival and possibly the tech prepper made versions with mini clothesline reels that are pretty cool. My initial comment came off rude. I was more just taken aback in the moment by it being nearly identical to my first version which I think I only showed on Instagram after looking back through my UA-cam.
Hello, I've this antenna ... i love it because i allways can tune it in the band i'll work
Thanks for sharing / 73

unles you live in the 2M/70cm world. I'd love something like this.
Man, I *REALLY* want this antenna! I’m not even setup with a radio yet (only became an Amateur Extra a week ago!). Maybe this will give me many opportunities, perhaps at my apartment or at my nearby park. ❤
