  • Replacing the fan resistor on my early RHD E36 Alpina to solve the issue of the fan only working on speed 4.
A simple job that needs just a Philips screwdriver.

Happy I came across this! Now to get the part out of the car and make sure it’s the same (320i 1992 e36) and fix. 👍🏾

I was so glad it worked after the install. In my case that is usually where i find out it wasn’t that part and i need to replace something else, ad infinitum 😄😄

3 months on and it's still working well so a tick in the box for that one!

I had not noticed I'd said this, so very much a case of "no pun intended"! Must try harder next time :-)

Hiya. Does anyone here know where to find the resistor on a LATE non-aircon model? I’ve taken the left and right hand side apart now on my right hand drive e36 2000 Compact and can’t see it in any of the places suggested by this and other videos. Someone commenting elsewhere that non-air cons don’t have resistors at all?

I'd be happy to be proved wrong, but I can't see how you could have multiple fan speeds and not have a resistor. Unless the resistor is built in to the fan unit itself. Good luck with the search for it.

hi, speed 1 doesn't work for me, while speed 2, 3 and 4 work, can it depend on the resistance? thanks bye

Sounds like a wiring fault to me, rather than a resistor fault. Have you checked the wiring to the control dial and the resistor?
