If you own a BMW E36 you might want to check out my playlist. It has a lot of repairs I've done. ua-cam.com/play/PLBswVpqDrWxTdr3dTAiUbxFVYhqyYIi_z.html
The parts dont look alike. Original One is longer than the other and has less prongs.
How many reading this have had to do the motor ????
What a great video. Very clear and easy to follow. Thanks to your video, I ordered a replacement part online and had it installed and working in less that 20 min!. I am very thankful to people like you who take the time to make our lives easier!
Thanks man. I love hearing stuff like this
Great video, very helpful insight. Start with the resistor before assuming it’s the blower motor.
I can’t believe IT WORKS thank you !!!!!! I’m shocked It’s worth the $50 gamble so happy 😀
Thank you ! 🙏🏽 e36 videos dosent exits around this trenches 😅
Good job, thanks for posting, I've changed mine before but it's been about 10 years so I forgot lol needed a reminder/refresher on where it was this fit the ticket perfectly. Thank you!
Two more notes on the resistor - 1 - I happened to check the space it occupies- found a full size mouse next in there. That's why it burned up and broke down. You get it off, take a look inside. 2 - getting the back screw in was a problem, until I cut 2 inches of fuel line with the perfect diameter to squeeze the head of the screw inside it. That gave me the agility to get it to the hole and to turn a good number of revolutions on the threads until it was well set in there. Then I put the driver on it and it was done.
Mine was only working at the highest setting and this solved the problem. Thanks!
This solved the problem for me. Thank you.
Brilliant thanks, shot, clear and to the point, perfect!
Excellent video ! And I appreciate the explanations
Thanks. Going to do this tomorrow on my '98 M3. OEM part was ~$60 on Pelican Parts.
+urgetodrive nice man. I know this is a little late but I hope it went well!
Very good my friend
Thank you...great video!!!
Thanks for the video, I fix my BMW 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks a million... u helped me and saved me more than a R1000 from my machenic
+Pilane Itumeleng Phetoe yeah and it was easy! I might be taking off my dash and checking my blower motor soon cause it's making weird sounds and the air flow is weak.
I have a problem. My AC comes on and goes off on it's own, sometimes it won't come on at all
1:55 your a genius!
worked for me
This is really helpful. Thanks!
So was your blower not working on any speed? I have the same issue. My blowers were intermittently not working and a few days later not working at all. I don’t wanna find out that it’s the blower motor after installing a new blower resister.
Thanks Dude 👍
The most important piece of information was you saying the screws are star head. I killed an hour trying to clearly see what the head was, which I couldn't. I wasted a lot of that time trying to fit allan head wrenches and phillips head screwdrivers in there. Once I pulled your video and heard you identify them as star heads, I had it out in 20 minutes.
How long has the cheaper replacement part lasted? The more expensive one is probably the OEM one.
I have the same problem but mine is bmw 328i 1996 convertible do you think it will be the same working process and actually the car is not mine yet I am in negotiations to buy it from the first owner but no cold and no heat blows and also the car has 66k miles any idea how much that car would be worth to buy?
Having a problem idk what it is but my 94 e36 won’t blow air at all all the lights turn on for the heater and ac but they don’t blow cold or hot at all is that a blower problem?
gracia looking 4 fix my e36
Ok...I'm sold. Gonna try this. I have a '99 E36 328is. We are having some pretty nice weather up here near Seattle. I had a few errands to run and wanted to drive the BMW. Sat down, started it up....no fan/AC!! This car has black leather interior. Needless to say it was hotter than hell in the car. I was like CRAP!! Do I need to drive my family car? Anyway, I sat in the driveway a few minutes, opening windows, the sunroof, messing around with the fan control knobs and my nosy neighbor across the fence was like, "what are you doing?". Jesus, dude leave me alone. He then says, "just roll your windows down I never use my AC". I'm like, ok buddy...whatever, man..( he has a brand new Ford Focus and doesn't use his AC??) the whole time I'm thinking "I just need to get the hell out of my driveway so I can be away from him and listen to my kickass stereo". Anyway, back to the car; the fan issue has be sporadic lately. Works one day...the next day no dice. For $35 what the heck! I'll report back. Thanks for taking the time to post this video. I really appreciate it! (sorry for the long story...I just had to get this out of my head so I can sleep!!)
Curious, how is your part holding up? I checked out reviews on your Amazon link and a few people have said the part didn't last long. FYI, it's only $26 now w/free shipping for others out there w/the same issues. It does have a rating of 3.9 out of 5. I'm biting the bullet!
Well I put this in of August last year (11 months ago) and it is still holding up :)!!! However we do not drive this car frequently. As of right now the fan sounds reallly really "healthy" if you know what I mean. I feel that changing your cabin air filter while doing this will allow the resistor to have the longest life possible. I made a video of the cabin air filter replacement. There were GREAT results. The filter was so clogged the blower motor was having to work like 200% just to blow. I feel this is why the resistor fails alot in these BMWs because people neglect their cabin filter. Anyways I hope you have a good try at replacing this. It is super easy to do as you saw...
Hey, just replaced the resistor. The biggest pain was getting the damn wire connector off. Got it all put back together and WHAMMO!! Fan works!! Does sound extra healthy, btw. I have a new cabin air filter on my kitchen counter that's going in tomorrow. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I got it from European Parts Haus on Amazon Marketplace for $26.09 total.
Cabin air filter replaced today....mega difference!
Hi l relaced the a/c moter resistor ,and have the sent problems ,driver side l have cool air and pasanger side is war air ken hel mi to,fauned the proublens? Thank you
add 134 gas
Will you ever make mods for your Car? Would be a interesting series/ episode
Yea man Thats something I'd love to do. Car has 238k miles with new transmission last year.
Ok 👍
My climate control is working allways with the same speed. Can it be this? Thank you?
Probably. That’s what it was doing on this one. Once you switched to a different speed it started having problems. That’s what the resistor does. It helps dissipate the extra voltage
Mine does not turn on when it does not appear and the remote control will be on and the capacitor
If your blower motor does not turn on it could be your motor bearings are completely binded and you need a new motor or your resistor is dead. Resister is easier to get to is cheaper.
Mine does work? but only sometimes, changing the (blower motor) will it make air come out of my vents? But I live if Texas and dam is it hot down here, lol
Can I send you a video on your email? Or something?
+leo hernandez well that's sounds like what was happening to me. I changed to resistor and it was good. Also check out my vid on the cabin air filter. Depending on your mileage you may have a clogged filter
+leo hernandez sure send me a vid I'll check it out
What's you're email?
+leo hernandez mycarrepairchannel@gmail.com
How many do have replace
Just one... I got one for cheaper so I return the expensive one that was identical
What is the bmw e36 resistor motor for?
The resistor takes the voltage from the battery and dissipates (removes) the EXTRA voltage when blower on any speed lower than MAX. The battery distributes one voltage current to the blower motor. Turn the blower on MAX and you have no voltage being removed. Turn the blower to LOW and you are removing the voltage that is extra that is not needed to turn the blower motor as fast as it would if it were blowing on high. If this doesnt make sense i am sry.

"This green piece what is it and what is it for?" - I answered this in one of your other questions. 👍
How can I tell if it's the fsu or the capacitor? Mine turns on and off randomly and it only blows hot air. Also it blows hot air through the windshield and/or my feet even though the climate control is off
+hoywatsdat unfortunately I'm not really sure. It's much easier and cheaper to replace the resistor. Let me try to use some common sense here... if the fsu has a bad grinding sound to it the hearings are probably locking up as seen in the randomly on and off stages. If the resistor is bad it either sends the wrong voltage or no voltage to the fsu. In your case I would assume the resistor is bad because when your blower is off your blower is still getting power. I'm not an expert but I'd most likely say it's the resistor. Also clean your cabin air filter. I have a video on this. This will alleviate the strain on the blower which taxes the reisistor less... cheers I hope it works out let me know
Alright, thank you so much for the response!
Engineering but dont know that those are called torx screws
This was really helpful, thanks! Heads up to others, you might need a different resistor. I have a 1994, 3.25i, and I needed a completely different resistor, and thankfully, mine wasn't held in by any screws and came out easily. The part number needed for my 1994 e36 was 64118391749E from ÜRO verse part number 64116923204 shown in this video and in the description link. The new resistor also did fix my blower issue🙌
Cheers!
