If you've watched The Lion Guard, you've probably wondered: why was Kion missing from The Lion King 2? While we see Kiara, his older sister, as the future queen of the Pride Lands, Kion-the fierce leader of the Lion Guard and one of the most powerful lions of his generation-was nowhere in sight. Was he simply an afterthought, created later by the writers? Or was he on a journey that kept him away from the Pride Lands during Zira’s attacks in the lion king 2?
Well, I believe he could have been born during this time, but wasn’t in the Pride Lands when these events happened, and here’s why.

Lion King 2 was made 17 years before the lion guard.
That is why Kion and everyone else was not in The Lion King 2. The producers of the lion guard did an excellent job of fitting the show into the continuity of the franchise.
And Vitani was kovu's older sister.

Right. Vitani was the first lion guard leader that wasn’t the younger sibling of the heir to the Pride Lands not to mention the first one not born into royalty.
They did the same thing with the How to train your dragon tv series to used them to bridge the gaps between the movies which I love
The entire lion guard was just made to bring it back, including Kion, but! The writers were definitely smart enough to know how to write the story as if it seems like Kion would of fit in with the lion king 2 story. So cuddos to them for the good writing work. I would love to see actual movies or series expanding on more of the lion king
@SimbasGuardWT That's not true, The producers may do a good job on it trying to fit with the second lion king but unbeknownst to you and the lion guard fans why many older lion king fans (Including myself) don't like it and they're saying that it's not canon to the second because of zoology errors (Particularly some of the animal habitats including the gorilla inaccurate habitat the infamous theluji mountains due to their lack of research), plot holes, writing, the animation and the confusing storyline.
Yes they definitely made kion up for lion guard cause otherwise I don’t think they would wait 17 years to introduce him to lion king universe but I still view lion guard as canon

Short version: Even though he very clearly existed at the time, Kion and his team were hundreds of miles away at the Tree Of Life during the events of Lion King 2
I propose we see it as a "reverse Pokémon" situation: the movies happened in the canon of the Lion Guard, because clearly the timeline fits, but the Lion Guard didn't happen in the canon of the movies, because in a world where dead characters speak to the living all the time and where animals can have magic powers surely some giraffe druid would have dethroned Scar while Simba was growing up.
Makes sense because The Lion KIng 2: Simba's Pride was released back in 1998 long before The Lion Guard was released in 2015 althought in "Return To The Pride Lands" the final episode of this series were Rafifi, Kovu and Kiara retold the story of Zira's down fall but they didn't explained Nuka's death at all.

Yea, I don't think they really worried about Nuka. For kids watching the show, he was only a comic relief character from 2 seasons ago. If you really cared about Nuka, and what happened to him, you would just watch the movie. And since you know Nuka died, I assume you watched the movie. After all, what would be the point in wasting time in your finale explaining the death of a character from one episode early in the show, when their was already an entire movie explaining said death.
Obviously Kion and his friends were simply away during Zira's attacks. Plus as stated, it was a long journey getting to the Tree of Life. And even after Kion arrived, he and his friends stayed there for quite some time. So they really justified his absence in the second movie. And btw, Vitani is Kovu's older sister
I dont think the creators actually even considered kion at all to be honest, his character was only thought of after lion king 2 it's only after they realised that his existence impuded on the story being told did they think of the tree of life plot to fix the massive pothole being created.

Also they did kinda explain that when the beginning of the Lion king 2 was happening Kion was around but he's never hanging out with his sister so he wasn't there and hadn't gotten the roar yet
He wasn’t in the lion guard due to Disney probably thinking of making the lion guard way after the realise of lion king 2.. also if he was he would most likely be a main character but the movie is revolved around kiara
I love that they knew they'd have to write Kion out of LK2 somehow, and they actually thought up of one that was a good reason story-wise.
I also like to think that Kion's therapeutic healing methods were reflecting Buddhism lessons. It makes sense because the Tree of Life was located in India. I'd also say method is exactly what an anxious teenager needs.
Not really. Kion and the Lion Guard were fully created years later from concepts that were archived during Lion King 2's production
So all they did was to officially justify why they weren't in Lion King 2
I like this explanation of why Kion wasn't seen in Lion King 2, over all.
Think I heard, or read, one similar to it a while back.
Although, there's one thing in the show, as well as movie, that throws it off.
In the Lion Guard episode, The Lions of the Outlands, Zira and her lions are living in the Outlands and at the end of the episode, Kion roars and sends them to what Zira calls their "new home".
(the same one they have in the movie)
And during that episode, Kovu mentions seeing Kiara 'again', indicating they'd already met.
However, in the movie, after Kovu and Kiara meet and their parents carry them away to home, Zira and her lions are already living there, beyond the Outlands (where Kion's roar sent them to in the show).
Like I said, I like the explanation of Lion Guard's 3rd season being why he wasn't in the movie.
But that episode of season 1, Lions of the Outlands, and the 'near beginning' of the movie kinda screws it up because they don't line up.
Maybe I'm thinking too much into it, but I feel like I need to point that out.
@@CinemaSongscovers The third season does canonically explain what happened. Before Kion leaves for the Tree of Life, Nala mentions how she hopes he will return before Kiara's first hunt. While the guard is away, Zira attacks, and they are called back in Journey to the Pride Lands.
And I never get why everyone is so stuck on Lions of the Outlands. Kovu literally says that he met Kiara "a while ago." We don't know whether the termite mound in that episode was the same one or whether Zira was being sarcastic about it being their "New home" because Nuka was being dumb by not recognizing it. The whole timeline lines up perfectly. For all we know the termite mound was an Easter egg, or Zira and the outsiders migrate due to lack of food.
@mysteriousmysterynetwork5215 , there's also part of the episode to consider when Zira says, "it may not be Pride Rock, but we call it home."
(and I could be paraphrasing that, but it's pretty much the line)
And they're in the Outlands, not beyond like the end of the episode.
Again, I may be thinking a little too much into it, but like I said (again) I like this explanation overall.
Plus, I'm OCD, so I tend to have a keen eye for details and such.

@@CinemaSongscovers Well, you also have to remember that she spent the entire episode lying to Kion to try and get him to join her side. It makes sense she wouldn't risk telling her enemy's son where she lives.
And then remember where she took him. That was the same place Scar met the strange lion and it was where the skinks lured Beshte in Swept Away. Zira was just lying to Kion to lure him into an ambush.
The lion guard already explained that kion left to free himself from the control of the poison
I think during the events of Kira and Kovu adventures when they were adults was during the time Kion went on a quest to heal his scar

She kinda was until TLG, as far as canon goes.
Yeah theory wise it makes perfect sense when the Lion guard first came out, I'm sure loads of Lion King fans had the same question and sure enough the creators answered those questions. But that also leads us to believe that Scar himself, had never truely mastered the roar and if he had continued the path of good, instead of being corrupted, he would have been the next King of the Tree of Life and Mufasa would have been alive for longer and the story would have gone completely differently.

Um, scar would obviously be king if his brother died, that's why scar killed him in the first place, duh! Sarabi isn't part of the royal family and is only related by marriage.

So I hate to burst the bubble but in the lion king he was born I remembered the very end of the movie they show the female cub then the male after and at the start of two the male was in another section of pride rock more than likely doing something off screen like training or goofing off because in the lion guard he spent a good time with his sister and family before he got the scare and headed it off he also ment zera and the mate then left which the journey did take him out of the lion king 2 and came back ether two weeks or a few months after lion king two

Personally, it'll always be Kopa to me since him dying makes since for Simba's overprotectiveness and hostility towards Zira. I just want to see Kopa at least once 😭

Well, with the manes, I think Kion's mane was just too iconic for his character to change it. Baliyo of the Night Pride has the same type of mane, so Kion isn't alone in having that type of mane. As for Kiara being small in The Lion Guard, are you referring to the art style, or Kiara being big in the second act of Simba's Pride, but young in the Lion Guard? The Lion Guard takes place I would say about 5 years before the battle with Zira. Remember the timeskip in Battle for the Pride Lands?

Man, the producer are genius to make this TV Show canon to The Lion King 2 movie.
Always felt like Kion’s existence soured Kiara’s story and her impact. Wish Simba was just a girl dad and Kiara was always destined to be queen as a only child. Just made it so much better imo. Kion should’ve been a prequel story before simba or just his own character. Wasted opportunity tbh.
Have you noticed Kion and his lion guard and Janja Jisari Ed Banzai Shenzi Chungu and the other hyenas and Simba Nalas mothers Ushari the snake from the lion guard or the skinks never appeared in lion king 2 Mufasa appeares as a ghost at the beginning of lion king 2 when Kovu looks at his reflection in the water it turns into Scar also Ed Banzai Shenzi killed Scar after Scar's defaet Simba baneshd the hyenas from the pridelands the hyenas were never seen again

Simple they hadn't thought of him yet. Yeah like others say they did fit him in well but there was one bit missed spot. Yeah Kiara is older but probably not by much so Kion should have been in the start of Lion King 2 when Kiara was still a cub and met Kovu. He didn't leave for his journey until he was maturing, probably a mid to late teen equivalent of a Lion and again Kiara was still around that same age. Lion's grow fairly fast so the fact he and Kiara stayed around the same size through Lion Guard shows they were born fairly close together
Id say it was both. Yes he was made just for the lion guard. He wasnt an idea yet. However they did a good job weaving him into the storyline.
The Biggest reason is because the Lion Guard show was made years after the Lion King 2.
They should just remake the 2nd movie or something to include Kion and better establish him in actual canon imo. He wasn’t even a concept at the time of the 2nd movie so there’s no mention of him or anything. The closest we had to him was Kopa, a non canon firstborn child from some little story book that fans theorized and headcanonized as having nearly been killed by Zira, only to return years later.
Kion actually was a concept that was made later during Lion King's 2 pre-production. But, it was then archived since the movie was well underway, so they couldn't simply add it

The in universe explanation for this is that Kion and the rest of the guard were on a journey to the tree of life while the event of lion king 2 played out in the pride lands

The theory of kion being at the tree of life while lion king 2 happened was tossed around, but yeah it was a 17 year gap the one thing is though at the end of lion king it does indicate Simba and Nala having a son because it shows a male cub being born where as in the beginning of lion king Simba pride it shoes Kiara so my theory is they did have kion they just didn’t have a role for him in that movie there is also people saying they had a long lost son Kopa
missed the fact that lion guard starts after Kiara met Kovu as small cubs. Lion Guard is after the we are one song, and Kiara just fully commits to future queen. It also shows that Kion met Zira. Kovu even points out that he'll get to see Kiara again. Kion though use to get into trouble a lot as a toddler, and was exploring the pride lands before Simba let Kiara go at the start of lion king 2. He was most likely off doing his own thing, and zazu wasn't there for zira with the crocs only flying by afterward on the return trip to pride rock. Zazu could have been off with lion. Also, missing the fact nala tells kion she hopes he's back for Kiara's first hunt, which is something she is working for throughout lion guard. She does the first hunt when kion is gone with his scar. So you're missing details from other points of the series, even the fact kion had his own scare with crocs when smaller that Kiara was during her first meeting with kovu. Even though it is silly people don't understand that the guard has missions everywhere, and have been confused for this long.

Despite what defenders of the lion guard (Especially what SimbasGuardWT) are saying and believing that the show is canon as they've got no proof and that's their opinions, As a diehard and longtime lion king fan myself I really don't think the lion guard is canon to lion king 2 as Ford Riley (The creator of the show) wasn't even involved with the movie at the time during the 1990's), He was a writer for the franchise's first television show Timon & Pumbaa (1995 - 1999) that premiered on both Disney Channel and and Toon Disney and unlike that show that was made for kids, teens and young adults, this one was obscurely instead made for preschoolers/toddlers on Disney Junior and the show here despite being a prequel contains many zoology errors, plot holes, inaccuracies, timeline issues and other mistakes Disney did (Which lion guard fans including SimbasGuardWT are extremely clueless and oblivious to). Excluding the characters of the show were at the least good and decent Kion and the rest (Despite not being based on further Shakespearean characters which is of what made the lion king franchise and characters so iconic), There zoology errors like the Theluji Mountains (An infamous unfit habitat for mountain gorillas as Ford and his crew and even writers did a lack of research on the ape's actual residential native range the Virunga Mountains), Here's a link from Zoo-Tycoon-Movie fandom:zoo-tycoon-movie.fandom.com/wiki/Mountain_Gorilla#Distribution_and_natural_habitat. And the despite that lion guard is set in the famous and remarkable African continent (Due to the franchise's culture, fauna and oral traditions), there's a lot of non-African animals that they threw in there including Asiatic lions such as Rani and the night pride, giant panda bears, polar bears, red pandas and many more and even that obscure and unexplained magical roar of the elders that's unfaithful to the source material and ironically none of the characters throughout the entire show say the word magic as Disney also threw that into the franchise's lore right in front of the TLK fans faces. Also there's some characters from the show that are unlikable and annoying (Particularly Majinuni and Hafifu), Plus they cut out some of the other characters that were introduced in both the first and third films including Sarabi (Simba's mom), Timon's mom and uncle and the meerkat colony.

One to be honest, I don’t think they made him Cannon until they had to come up with the lion guard. There was always drawings and write ups of like the family tree and stuff like that but I don’t remember any Disney official coming out and saying that they were canon. during the lion King two movie he’s not even mentioned by anyone if he was alive at some point of the movie and part of the Royal family at some part in that movie then he would have been mentioned at least by Simba or Nala

Kopa isn't canon. The same books that he is from say Scar got his Scar from a water buffalo, so it contradicts the Lion Guard. The books were made before Simba's Pride, so when they made the movies they simply decided they wanted Simba to have a daughter rather than a son, because it would fit the plot better or something.

It’s because he’s the youngest so he was wasn’t there, but on the other one where Noah was meeting a lion outside of pride lands and they started dating that’s because when the lion guard was looking for the tree of life now was with the others still at the Highlands and stuff like that so that’s why Kylian wasn’t in the first movie is because he was the youngest😊 hopefully I made some sense 😅😅
I like to think that Kion had a condition that made him kind of stunted in growth, hence his mane not growing as much as Kovu’s, despite Kovu’s living conditions being worse than the lions in the Pridelands. He’s just a bit younger than Kiara, so dismissing it as an age issue feels off. He also gets “married” to Rani, which feels kinda weird imo.
Wait a minute if kiara was a teenager in the beginning of lion guard season 3 and later she became a young adult in the lion king 2 then why they didn't kion and his friends age up and also how long they stay in the tree of life i mean they travel and come back to the pride land like a months ago?
The character models in Guard are more simplified than to LK2.I do have an idea though.
Since Kiara's older than Kion she reached young adulthood just a little bit before Kion did, but she's still fresh into adulthood so she doesn't look full grown yet.
