"Kusinilo Si Bao" ("The Turtle Is A Chef"), composed for The Archipelago Singers by the internationally renowned Filipino composer, Nilo Alcala, performed during the Folksong Category of the 2nd Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival, Manila, Philippines, July 2015. The Archipelago Singers also performed the world premiere of this piece in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 28 June 2015. "Kusinilo Si Bao" is a Filipino folksong based on Maguindanao folk chant. This contemporary composition is a funny setting about a turtle who works as a chef with parts of its body used as the kitchen utensils. The rough translation of the song says: Dendi, dendi, dendi, bona, dendi. The turtle is a good chef, a complete kitchen too. His head is the grater. His stomach is the stove. His tail is the ladle, dendi bona dendi. And his legs are firewood, a dendi bona dendi”.
