Breaking the palm habit has made my spirals tight. I was coached to have as much of my hand on the ball since I had smaller hands, along with swinging my front elbow down hard. Its crazy to think that some coaches have little idea what they're saying LOL
As a HS coach I’m blown away at this. Literally any 5 minute video on a coaching site, hell even UA-cam, will show that’s the exact wrong way to throw. You need to accelerate your elbow *through* the throw to get a quicker release, definitely not down. It’s irresponsible. This is a dangerous game and if you don’t know what you’re doing get out of the way before you ruin a kids life.
@THE TRACKCAR then you simply haven’t been in front of good QB coaches. Every QB on earth, possibly minus Rodgers (because I can’t find any flaws there and I’ve yet to hear someone give one) has mechanical aspects to be improved. It might be as small and simple as they’re extending their front foot out 2 inches too far on the throw and losing a lot because of it. But everyone has something.
If you followed his steps and still cant throw spiral it's ok Just keep finding the right grip for you. And also throwing over the shoulder is always more accurate.
I definitely has to do with the wrist too, but you don’t want to manipulate your wrist! What I mean by this is, throughout your throwing motion, you want to keep your wrist locked in place! You don’t want to break at the wrist to try and get a spiral! Your wrist being unstable will actually make your throw worse!
Today was my true day 1 learning QB mechanics via YT and spending some time putting that in motion. And the Number 1 reason I started throwing more and more spirals(albeit not insanely far like 10-15 yards) is the grip. Having a gap between your palm and the ball is tremendously important as well as grip strength. You should be gripping the ball hard enough that its your fingers holding the ball not the palm
I appreciate you as a QB coach I try to teach my son but he doesn’t listen well when it’s from Dad so a few minutes of watching you he realizes what I show him is true and he is more inclined to listen lol
Hey coach, quick question: at what point in the arm's motion does the ball point right at the target? The ball starts off pointing behind me but im confused as to when I rotate the ball to face my reciever. thanks
Grip strength is more important I’d say, plenty of guys with big hands who can’t spin it however it can definitely help and give you an advantage but if you don’t have big hands you can still spin the ball with a strong grip
When I throw a deep ball, spirals are perfect. But when it comes to short-range about 10 to 15 yards, its really ugly even tho balls are mostly accurate. what should I do? when I concentrate on index finger it got worse but when I focus on middle and ring finger spiral seems better
I would try to get full range of motion on the shorter throws. A lot of guys short arm the shorter throws and that usually can mess up their spiral because they push the ball. Make sure you get full range of motion
Do you have any tips for people with smaller hands. I can't grip the ball hard enough to bring my elbow down. Especially if I have to run, I don't know how to build that strength with my hands.
Question is it normal for the football to shift to a direction for example I throw right handed my ball shifts to the left slowly. Is that normal for throwing
I have small hands, and i just bought an official size football, it is an composite leather, and I throw spiral a lot better and consistent if i hold my hand very close to the half of the ball, is it okay or I shoul learn to throw from the 4th quarter?
I would try both and see- if you’re comfortable with your grip then I would keep it. But a leather ball can be harder to grip and if the composite ball gets wet it’s almost impossible to throw. So I would try and play with it and see what you’re comfortable with and have the most control with
im not a quarterback but i am a blocking back... u got any tips?? im also linebacker and some plays wr and im struggling on explosiveness and i want so help
Hey coach i got a question. So i’m a bball player rn and i’m above average like i play aau and all that. but i’ve been really wanting to play qb, i’m 6ft 160 ish and i’m 14. should i give it a try? if so, where should i start??? (i have a lot of football knowledge)
I would say try out for a high school team and checkout a trainer you can work with. I’ll send something below that can help you get a grasp on the position and what to expect www.firstdowntraining.com/product-page/the-qb-bible
Yeah!!! You definitely don’t want to swing your elbow down as hard as you can! That’s a very bad technique to teach! You want to end up leading with your elbow and then extending out directly to your target before finishing in your opposite pocket!
Breaking the palm habit has made my spirals tight. I was coached to have as much of my hand on the ball since I had smaller hands, along with swinging my front elbow down hard. Its crazy to think that some coaches have little idea what they're saying LOL
Yeah that’s totally wrong😂 glad I could give you some insight man
Who would palm the ball while throwing… that’s so uncomfortable anyways
@@rulinghand2166 it’s surprising comfy, especially since I have 8 inch hands which are fairly small on the ball

This is perfect since I am trying to get better before school when I do start football.Thank you so much!
No problem man hope this helps!
Definitely agree with you! The pointer finger matters the most. If I can feel my pointer finger roll off the ball I know it will be a spiral
Yessir no doubt!
This man has taught me more about football than anyone else ✌🏻
Appreciate you bro! Thank you for watching the videos and I’m glad they can help

I was about to say it’s all on the wrist but I e always had the natural spiral so I really didn’t know how to explain it
Wrist is definitely important
I definitely has to do with the wrist too, but you don’t want to manipulate your wrist! What I mean by this is, throughout your throwing motion, you want to keep your wrist locked in place! This is why QB hand size is so much more important.
I appreciate all your helpful tips man. Keep up the good work! 👍
Appreciate you! Glad the content gives you some value
i have my ring finger on the first lace and my pinkie finger on the third lace and it has helped me throw better spirals
most informational 47 seconds ever
😂appreciate you man
I could throw a spiral but it would always be a spiral facing the sides of the ball this helped me throw a spiral from the tip of the ball
Yessir glad this could help!
Always fire content ! Kudos coach G👀
Appreciate you David, thank you as always
Here because we have a football unit in school lol and my teams mad at me because I can’t throw

Ima wide receiver but I told my QB this.
Thanks bro

Knee drills and focus on snapping the wrist. Do it daily for months and your spiral will get tighter.
this will help a lot in the backyard 🐐
Yessir appreciate you! Glad this helps
Really good tips. Smart. Well done, bro.
Appreciate you man! Glad it gave you some value
I put my pinky on the 3rd lace middle finger on white line ring finger between and pointer finder near the point
Great coaching point..

Hey coach, quick question: at what point in the arm's motion does the ball point right at the target? The ball starts off pointing behind me but im confused as to when I rotate the ball to face my reciever. thanks
Would be just before the release after your hips have rotated through and your body is facing the target
This is how you shoot a basketball with the index in the middle of the ball.
That’s just one of the ways, it’s not like it’s the only way
@@jaydentakungo exactly; you can shoot it with your foot. I think the best way is meant.
Most popular and instinctive way so it's more noticeable to everyone

Brett Favre had his index finger literally on the top of the football lol

Nice tips. I throw a pretty good spiral 9/10 times. My biggest problem is throwing it far.

I wish I could be a pro at football
I have a bad habit of wobble balls so this will really help
I get a bunch of compleints about my spiral
How big are you handspans? I wonder if it makes a difference.
Grip strength is more important I’d say, plenty of guys with big hands who can’t spin it however it can definitely help and give you an advantage but if you don’t have big hands you can still spin the ball with a strong grip
Think about your finishing move being like your hitting the woah

I actually appreciate the surfer comment- I’ve never once stood up on a surf board let alone rode a wave 😂
Bro if only you could see how moving my index higher helped! Thanks
No problem man glad it did!
So does your ring finger have to be the last to touch the ball or should your pinky be the last? Lol I can’t think
Index finger so your pointer finger
Thanks dad 🥲
Anytime son
Bro is 3 different skin tones 😂
This was from 3 years ago… it’s only gotten worse
For some reason my middle finger has always been my last finger to leave the ball
Honestly that was the same for me too- I don’t think it’s a huge issue as long as it spins
Do you have any tips for people with smaller hands. I can't grip the ball hard enough to bring my elbow down. Especially if I have to run, I don't know how to build that strength with my hands.
Improve grip strength, that is the key. Grip strength is more important than hand size
@@firstdowntraining That's what I was wondering how to do?
I keep slipping with the football at school
If you search up “first down training how to throw with sweaty hands” or “dry hands” we have some content there that can help you!
I have a question.
Should my wrist pronate at the same time that my elbow reaches full extention, or should my wrist pronate just barely before that?
Yes same time you reach extension

Have to

I throw spirals more consistently if i try to release the ball as late as possible, maybe it has something to do with more spin?
