- Опубліковано 24 бер 2024
- 29 years ago today we played on SNL. March 25, 1995.
This also marked the beginning of a new opening to “Grace, Too”. Do you know the story behind how “fabulously rich” became “Tragically Hip”?
Praise be to Dan Aykroyd for his recommendation the Hip play SNL. R.I.P. Gord
When we were all Canadians
Did not know that!
Seen them at the Colisée in Québec city. Best show.
Canadian of 1965.. Told I saw the Leafs win in 1967... But never will I forget the Hip eh!
I loved how Dan introduced them as "my friends"
We miss you, Gord ♥️
YES we sure do
Big time!❤
I miss him every day. What a good man
@@nicholasgraveline7384 I was listening to him and the sound of his voice can inspire so many different things in me.
We miss all of them !!
The HIP were such a gift to us all! especially in the end when Gordie and the band decided to do one more final tour.
RIP Gordie! you are missed!
Certainly is
One of many amazing and talented bands that Canada has ever had ❤
Top 3; Rush, Hip, Guess who
Rest in peace, Gord Downey was an amazing performer
Also, Thank you Dan Akroyd for bringing the Hip to America ♥️
Love watching him sing, so into it all the time, always a great show
Rest on peace Gord love you ❤
They were crazy live. Th and our lady peace put on a sick concert together. Non stop. So much energy
60 now, and rediscovered the hip. Cool again.
The world sure was awesome back then. I remember this well. 🇨🇦 ❤
Met the boys in Buffalo absolutely amazing band rip gord
Remember the Good Times… 90’S North Bay, Ontario 🇨🇦 Memorial Gardens… Sitting next to Lake listening to Bobcaygeon… ✌️🍁
for me it was bike rides with the walkman cassette player in Killbear provincial park, wearing out the Fully Completely album
That was quiet the long weekend 🐉🔥💨💨💨💨💨 I supplied them
I was in college in North Bay in '95 when they played. That was the biggest thing to happen in North Bay probably ever, lol.
Awesome, energetic band. So talented ! Miss 'em. RIP Gord ✌️
I'm crying again! Best band ever. Poets and dancers who rocked!
I still believe Barenaked Ladies are better, but The Hip are among the best ones and certainly one of my favorite bands.
@@peivandryks5217Barenaked Ladies....TF...you high or tone deaf!!!! Prob both.....
@@peivandryks5217BNL have been treading water for 20+ years.
Legends never really die.
I always thought of The Hip as “cottage music” 🎵. You had it on in the background while you were on the deck having beers with friends. It was part of the ambience. Can’t think of anything better.
Cuz they were seriously overplayed...I can barely stand them anymore, as good as they were.
Dig a little deeper, there’s a lot more to them than what the radio plays on repeat lol
Or you could say “Canadian Country”
@@ianmacintyre1753 deffo not played in the UK tho.......
This is my favourite song by this band!!
KINGSTON’S BAND!!! But all of Canada loves them 🇨🇦
All canadian musicians came from their own hometowns.
@@humanforotherhumanst4619 lol 😂
Ya they do!
@@vinjane3526this is ALL OF CANADAS BAND!
@@CokesAndTokes there all of Canada band for sure, after KINGSTON!!!
Many in US love them too. ❤️
I'm from Ottawa 🇨🇦 and seem The Hip 5 times one of my Best Bands EVER. LOVE YOU GUYS TO BITS❤💕
His stage presence is out of this world
Because you can feel the intelligence of the lyrics and delivery, like he has a secret or deep truth to tell you
Best band of all time. Seeing them live many times was something indescribable unless you were there. I was a lead singer of a Hip cover band for years, a true privilege.
I was moving my head this morning like Gord in this vid ordering breakfast. The server thought I was touched. She is correct.
R.I.P Gord. You are sorely missed. 😢
This my favorite song by The Hip, except for about 60 others ❤ RIP Mr. Gordon Downie
The Hip were absolutely magical, it literally doesn't get much better than watching these guys live!
The Hip’s BEST song. My friend and I always used to joke that there was a spider in the vocal booth before we looked up that he was actually saying “Him? Here? Now? No!”
He was such a great composer , we should all feel grateful for the music from the hip 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🍁
The Hip is my favorite band. Hands down. so many good times with them telling me stories in the back ground! Long live the Hip and Canada! 🍁 🇨🇦 ❤
This was the exact moment I discovered this band.
Aww that good sound of the hip and goodie
Watching Gord sing so close to the album version is wild. If you never went to a Hip concert, you can't appreciate how he would adlib and add poems and dancing. But I was very proud seeing them on SNL.
One of the greatest for sure
Remember it well, so proud to be a Canadian and a Hip fan when this aired.
Seen them many times!! 1st time there were about a hundred people! Last time 20 thousand!!! What a fin band 👏 Great Canadian Rock and Roll !!!!! Will live on
Tragically Hip always reminds me of summer and good times.
Love and miss you GD ❤️
He was so brave. I lost my mom to brain cancer. I got to see it first hand for three years of decline. Gord was a fucking force of nature having the strength to perform his last show knowing his fate. 🌹❤️
Should read the story behind the accidental lyric change.
Tell
@@mattturner7500he was giving his nephew a shoutout for his 11th birthday so was focused on giving him the secret signal: two fingers up. He blanked and said the wrong line.
The bass line towards the end of this song is absolutely mesmerizing.
Man…I miss seeing this band.
My lake country soundtrack back then, and now
I watched it live.
What’s the song called?
@@toppy2610 "Grace Too".
Canadian talent at its best. Rest in Peace friend.
he was so weird and i love it
They played a free show down at the Outer Harbor in Buffalo, probably 10 years ago. I was going to go but 2 hours before showtime- had to be two miles of cars parked on either side of Furhman Blvd. so I said forget it. I still regret not seeing them. How could any of us had known Gord wouldn’t be with us forever?😞
I listened to the Hip at work tonight for a few hours!!!
God i ❤ this song.....RIP Gord
We miss you Gord 😢
What a time in Canadian that was.
Left us too early 😢😢
Miss them everyday.....................I miss that Guitar tone, and hearing stories about Canada
It just goes to show you. You can make up anything you want and the sheep will love it
Miss u Gordy I’m from Canada
As an American, this was my introduction to the hip. I was entranced by Gord. I loved driving through Canada because I found a station where every 4th song was Hip plus all the ladies were pretty.
Immediately YES ....YES GORDIE ...YES HIP!!!
How the Bare Naked Ladies were more popular than these guys in the states, I will never know.
Much easier to package and sell and cram into a movie soundtrack.
What a man.
How did people not react when he changed the lyrics? That was cool as hell. His face says it all.
Godspeed gord, love you.
He put his fingers up like that because his nephew was turning 11 and that was a sign to him
One quite underrated performance of SNL.
There will never be another Gord. ❤
❤ great fkn song!
I was loving TTH way back in 1991…
Great band!
I miss him and the band
❤the Hip. ❤Gord. RIP.
When Gord said vote for trudeau I knew his brain was goning. 😢
Or maybe artistic people are liberal lol, why do you think conservative music fucking sucks
@@notsamhoward artistic people can be emotional and gullible. There are plenty of conservative leaning artists especially in visual arts.. gord wasn’t the only Canadian swept away by ideological fantasizing about the future for young people in Canada. Trudeau was expertly marketed to the population
Great 👍 Band saw them in Wattsburg P.a.
I was there with the Boyz and Gord
Love this
Gordon to me you had style rip❤😢❤
The Hip encompasses Canadas soul
Greatest Canadian band of all time. Maybe tied with Rush. 😊
Rush a distant 2nd. Far far far far far… 2nd
Distant is a stretch lol RUSH was probably the best 3 piece that ever was, I love them both but musically? Neil alone had more talent in one of his hands than most bands combined lol
Our great Canadian Poet. Nothing like him ever.
Gord Downey is my Spirit animal..I was blessed and honored to see him and the boys live 3 times..Wish it could have been 3000
We had the big screen down in the bar that normally had club music pumping at that time on a Saturday night playing their performance instead.
I loved the lyric swap, “I’m tragically hip” instead of “I’m fabulously rich”. I caught it twenty-five something years ago and it still gets me today.
Miss You Gord ! RIP
Legendary
Whoa! First time to see this. 🇨🇦
My favorite band of all time.
Miss Gord. Miss ya'll
I had the Honor of watching The Hip twice....Both in Victoria BC....blown away...thankyou Hip.
See ya on up there Gordie
🎉just makes me wanna dance& jump❤
HOW did they not catch on in the states? Great band. RIP Gord.
Love the hip
I do belive that when you show that much weakness for what you love the will will take
Taken from us way too soon, your memory will live on forever my friend.
OMG I miss this guy and his amazing, singular talent!! 😥
Miss you Gord. Xoxo
The kinda band that sounds like their record live… rare and an endangered species nowadays 😢RIP Gord , 🇨🇦 golden boy.
Jim Parsons would be a great actor for a biopic...
Loved this band
I miss this incredible talent
A true legend
It would do SUCH great things for my buzz if Gordy was wearing a Flash long sleeve shirt…doppelgänger!
We miss' you gord. Fly high buddy
Still relevant.
I saw The Hip live in concert in 2009 at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver and Gord just leaves all out there. Right up until the end when he dropped his microphone onto the stage floor and walked off.
A happy, young healthy and mischievously stoned Downie sings the line wrong, it's 'He says "I'm fabulously rich, come on just let's go..."'
Gord would intentionally do this line change in other live performances like the Kensington Market show in front of the grocery store. This was a prime era of Hip.
Dawg that is good!
