It is important that in Photoshop, neural network object selection has been working for many years and has already been perfected. In Affinity Photo it has just appeared and it will come to the state of "good job" for some time to come.
I think Affinity did a pretty good job as it works locally (this example of photoshop also worked locally) - but Affinity will stay this way and update models so designers aren't uploading their work into the cloud (as you may know many were very unhappy with Adobe as the terms stated they could use your work for AI models)
Can you still refine the selection in Affinity after it does it first shot at selecting the subject? This way you could get better hair selection and remove parts that were selected on the subject select tool? I don't have the beta version so I can't wait until it becomes part of the entire package.
Hey, You can absolutely refine it and you can also use the 'object selection tool' which (at this point) I think works better. I just wanted to take a '1 shot' with both Adobe and Affinity to see how it looked. Thanks for watching!
I am glad I switched to Affinity Suite last summer and dropped all of the Adode products. I was very surprised when I found I could do everything I want and need to do with Affinity at a more reasonable price. I found the learning curve wasn’t that bad either once I wrapped my head around the differences in naming the function.
When I saw the title I actually expected Affinity to perform much worse than Photoshop, but they've gotten it to a pretty decent state with subject selection. I'll have to try this myself, and maybe add a bit of selection refinement for improvement.
@@bydesignmethod I've been using photoshops since it was invented in 1990. Thats 34 years. But I too am fed up with their unethical practices and greed and I'm looking to change. I have the whole Affinity suite loaded up but I haven't dived into them yet. I don't need any of that AI stuff either because I'm old school and I'm used and trained to do everything manually. Having AI do everything for you will take your entire hard earned skill set away quite rapidly. I'm in no rush any more that I now you just do it for my own pleasure and I enjoy the process that matter how long it takes. So yes I'm completely ready to jump ship so your tutorials are going to be great for me thank you.
Glad I bought Affinity. 😊
You won't regret it, only getting better!
Thanks for watching!

Channel now has a mascot.
It doesn't matter which of the two does this better. If I didn't have Affinity Photo I'd even choose the Gimp before I'd use another Adobe product.
I hear that!

What about all that wonderful AI stuff you no longer have? Neural filters and generative fill?
It's truly powerful and getting better all the time. When I started I had the choice of both... I picked Affinity and haven't looked back.
@@jacksprat2333I played around with it for a while but it didn’t really work for me and my needs.

Yeah I think Affinity did great and this was just a 'one shot' one-off. Still in beta so I think it will improve!
Nice video
Thanks for always showing up!
The Photoshop one could be better if you toggled the switch to process it in the cloud instead of in your own system.
Thank you. I've heard that.
Affinity will be keeping it 'on system' so I was trying to do the same with photoshop for comparison.
Affinity is better with the hair and fur
looked great on the raccoon!
still in beta so I think will get better!

Honestly, I personally don't use them but I understand it's very powerful for many users.
