    Keyboard magazine did a review of the W30 and criticised it for its complicated user interface and lousy factory ROM samples. IMHO, Roland should have added internal effects to make it a true keyboard workstation although it's 8 separate audio outputs was a great feature.

    What many people forget to mention, is that the W30 is a pure MONO synth without any FX processor. That often makes it sound sad and poor. So if one wants a W30 you really need a good SFX processor as well to make it shine!

    see, when recording on a Roland W30, the sound playback becomes clearer and denser. I understand that this is due to its internal circuitry, but we could transfer the software part onto a computer !! and use similar or identical converters for convenience and increased memory capacity. Additionally, take a look at the sequencer - it has a "Record by key press" function and real-time quantization with no delays. Programmers and musicians can create a version of this software for PCs, which would allow us to improve the sound quality and benefit from the convenient sequencer.

    To me it was the Roland with the floppy disk. That's how you refer to it if you are a little child. A little child that was interested in these devices though. So it was later that I knew it was the W30.

    I just picked up one of these at my local pawnshop for $300. Trying to wrap my head around the sequencer. My question is, how do you arrange a song in this unit? Confused, the manual is not very helpful. Thanks for any help offered.

      You've a 16 track midi sequencer. You can record One track at time. You can punch in and punch out, you can enter the notes by playing or step by step. I've recorded a lot of songs with the W30.

    Hello, I just got this keyboard, Roland W30. But I am confused on how to get different sounds on a floppy disk so I can play them. Do I have to make the sounds myself somehow? You mentioned an usb emulator. I don't know what that is. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    • @AGDugros
      @AGDugros  7 місяців тому +2

      You need to load the sound in the internal Memory and after you can save your personal floppy disk. The usb emulator replace the floppy unit. You can bought a USB emulator online. Good look with your W30

      Thanks for the help. My W30 came with several disks but I cannot load any of the patches on them. I insert the system disk to turn the machine on, but when I insert another disk, I don't see any new patches (other than the default patches on the system disk). What do I have to do? Thanks again!

    • @andreadugros
      @andreadugros 7 місяців тому

      @@janisstepanik4028 you need to LOAD the floppy in the internal memory and the patches wil be overwrited. When you whant to create a new set of patches you need to load the individual sound from the floppy and then WRITE a new floppy.

      From your comment I see that you don't understand what you are talking about.
      In 1988 w30 was the maximum technology possible and if today we have incredible samplers it is also thanks to w30.
      Its advantage today is precisely the real 12bit sound, much sought after through many bit crusher plugins, the dry and dirty sound throuth the 8 mono out, etc., so your review is completely wrong.

    • @AGDugros
      @AGDugros  2 місяці тому

      You’re serious? The sound in the video is directly recorded thru the Roland W30. The Roland W30 have 8 mono out. It’s a 12bit sampler, I repeat 12bit. The Roland W30 doesn’t have internal effects. The Roland W30 is a 1988, I repeat 1988! workstation. If we have Stereo samplers with 32 or 64 bit and unlimited memory, effects, coffee machine etc… is because Roland and others brand was made these VINTAGE GEARS. So I think that you don’t understand the beauty today of a Lofi and vintage sound, and you don’t understand what is a Roland W30. 😂
