    I like these but they are not problem-free; @ 83,000 miles mine has suffered the common water leakage around the vent under the plastic cowling (discovered a couple of gallons of water in the rear floorboards), and now my check air suspension light pops on and I lose power steering every now and then.
    Oh, and right before that my electronic door locks stopped working along w/the key fob and my AC is currently throwing all types of codes but still works 👍
    Am currently trying to figure out whether I should fix these things or simply dump it.
    Seems like I shouldn't be having these problems at only 83,000 miles-- I bought it about a year ago from an 89-year-old who used it as a Sunday driver and it lived its life in a garage.
    P.S if there's any Lincoln Town car owner who lives anywhere near the Fayetteville North Carolina area and knows how to fix these issues (changing over to shocks, exedra) for a good price, holler at me 👍

    • @57LHemi

    You have a very nice car, and you did a great job on this video. I have a 2002 Town Car that has been my daily driver since 2007. The rear air ride suspension going bad is a very common problem on these cars. Mine went out in 2015, and I had it replaced with a good set of cool springs. I had the same issue with my 1994 Town Car back in 2008.
    My car only has 110k miles on it, and I have not yet replaced the intake manifold, which is another common problem on these cars. It is too bad that Lincoln discontinued making Town Cars after the 2011 model year. I plan on keeping my car for quite awhile.

    • @57LHemi
      @57LHemi  3 роки тому +7

      For sure man same here I plan on keeping mine as long as I can. The intake manifold, air suspension, and water leak are the most common problems that these panther platform cars will see. Everything else is pretty much bullet proof with regular maintenance. I have over 260k on mine with the original deivetrain. I plan on buying a Designer series Town car also one day. I love how the have the fog lights and I believe that is was the highest trim level available out of them all. Take care of those 2 Town cars you have and they will take care of you my man. I drive a 2006 town car, I’ve had it for 9 years already and ZERO problems with it. However, the past few weeks the check suspensions light has turned on a couple times so yeaaaaa I’m sure they are failing 😢 any idea how much it would be to repair that?

    • @franknew9001
      @franknew9001 Рік тому

      @ santi hugh-- I had the rear air ride suspension pump and bags removed and replaced with a good set of coil springs in my 2002 Town Car in July of 2015. I also had the shocks replaced, and the total cost was $432. Of course that was more than seven years ago, and with inflation, it would be more now. My car only lasted 13 years with the air ride suspension, so you are lucky that yours lasted 16 years.

      I have a 1996 TC Presidential arriving this weekend, one owner, garaged, 107K miles, gorgeous inside and out. Thank you for your video. Truth is, I am a little nervous that I sold my 2016 Durango to buy the TC and I don’t even know how to repair the car. Guess I have always loved Lincoln’s and I figured life is short. My plan is to learn how to take care of her, use her as my everyday car, and hope and pray she stays alive. Heck, the Durango was killing me in repairs and all of the tech in that engine no way you can fix them yourself. I haven’t been able to locate one of those Chilton’s manuals so I am taking a big chance on this lovely car. Was feeling so nostalgic so I pulled the trigger. My wife was like here we go again. Sad too that we live in a stupid townhouse so no place to garage and work on the car.

      @@Revel214 Don't worry you didn't do anything wrong. As a matter of fact you bought a time capsule. A 107,000 miles garage kept one owner three huge pluses. Soon as you get it new spark plugs air filter fuel filter and oil change. The maintenance won't be as much as that dodge madness you was driving. Also when you get all that done. Antifreeze and trans flush then she'll really be your daily driver. My car is over 228,000 miles and no major problems. I started my antifreeze and trans flush at 100,000 miles and every 50,000 miles after. What color is it? I'm not a mechanic so its not hard to work on these cars.

    I own three Town Cars currently an 03 Cartier in Silver, a 04 Ultimate in White and, a Gold 2008 Signature "L". Other than the rear axle issues on all 2003 models they are great. If you run into the rear axle issue on your 03, the only cure is to get and entire rear axle assembly from an 04 or 05 etc. and swap it out. The axles were improperly hardened then Ford sold them into the aftermarket. So even if you get a new brand name axle and bearing kit put in, you may have the same issue a year later. I learned the hard way at $600-$700 a pop. After the same repair three times. I had a junk yard unit from a 2005 put in and no more issues

      Congrats on the new car man, it will last you a lifetime with regular oil & filter changes. I spend about $360 a year on insurance. And labor cost are very low as I do pretty much all the mechanic work on it. These are very easy to work on and all parts for it are petty cheap. At around 170k the rear air suspension will start to fail but that's a cheap & easy fix, just replace the air bag's with coil springs. And if you ever notice a wet floor water is leaking in under the passenger side cowl, another easy fix. Take it off and silicone around it and problem fixed. Those are really the 2 most common issue's with these cars.

    I just bought a 04 Signature with 106,000 miles on it, Paid $4500. I went to South Carolina to get it....I live in east TN. It's in perfect condition like yours, same color and everything. The underside and body of the car is like new...Interior too. It had the coil springs on it but I converted it back to the air ride suspension. I also have an 07 Signature Limited that I bought a couple of years ago that mechanically runs perfect that I only paid $500 for with 178,000 miles on it. The body is a little rough on it though because the previous owner put it into a ditch, it's not worth fixing the body on it. The differences between the 04 and the 07 town cars are pretty negligible. The air bag setup was exactly the same, so I used the 07 as the donor car for the 04, for the airbags and compressor. I also took some interior parts from the 07 that were perfect and swapped them out onto the 04, like the little buttons on the door panel storage compartment and the center console. I just wanted a reliable and comfortable travel car to take on long trips. These cars are super reliable, cheap to repair, easy to work on, and luxurious. I love these cars.

    Does thge car ride as good with the springs as it did with the air bags? If you load the trunk with a lot of luggage, will the rear of the car sag?

    • @57LHemi
      @57LHemi  3 роки тому +3

      Yes the car rides excellent with the coil springs and shocks that come with the kit. I don't notice any difference and would prefer the kit over the air suspension. Reason being, over the years I've had the car while the air suspension was still working perfectly fine I noticed the air compressor getting louder and louder. And it's only due to the age of the car and milage etc. I converted mine while everything was still working as it should, just a little louder than normal compressor and the only other sign that let me know that it was going out was after the car was parked for a couple of day's I stared noticing that the rear would be sagging or losing air. Because the rear air bags stated to leak. So seeing it like that was an eye sore to me so I converted it not long after. I heard of all the nightmare stories of replacing the air suspension being thousands of dollars. But it's really not. I could've replaced the air bags and been good to go but would've had to replace the air compressor sooner or later so going to coil springs was way cheaper and easier to do and you don't have to be an ASE certified mechanic to do it either. So it did a couple of things fit me. For 1 it's a permanent fix and I'll never have to worry about seeing a sagging rear suspension ever again and it took care of the annoying air compressor noise. Lastly as far as loading it down with people or what not really just depends on the weight. The most I've put in it would be 11 or 12 24 packs of water in the trunk plus my tool bag so maybe 300 to 400lbs give or take and it didn't sag too bad. It would be the same as any other car carrying the same load. Now the same situation with the air suspension would put a lot of strain on it because it would constantly be working trying to maintain the proper ride height. So taking a long trip would really put it to the test. To and from the grocery store piece of cake. These cars will take whatever you throw at them so these cars will still be on the road for a long time to come, take care my man.

    • @57LHemi
      @57LHemi  2 роки тому +2

      Yes the air to coil spring conversion is the easiest and most cost effective way to do it. But once complete the air suspension light will stay on. To get the light to turn off is to cut a couple of wires under the dash on passenger side. Or simply plugging everything back up. Or so I've heard. I didn't go that route because my air compressor was kinda noisy as it was going bad so doing the conversion eliminated the noisy compressor and fixed the sagging rear end. The air suspension light doesn't bother me at all. The conversion is so old now that I don't even think about anymore.

    Probably a dumb question but how's the gas mileage and does it take regular or premium? I'm looking at either a grand marquis or town car to get as a family 3rd and my daily for a while so I can do some nuch needed work on my truck.

    • @57LHemi
      @57LHemi  Рік тому +1

      Has mileage is pretty good on it considering the size of it. It gets around 17 18 city and about 24 26 on the highway on regular unleaded. And go with the town car as the ride and comfort will be better.

    They are nice cars. However, having owned Town Cars from 1976, 1988, 1997, and 2003, I have to say that, in my opinion, 1990’s generation was the best. From the standpoint of practicality for driving today.
    We daily drove the 2003 for about 3 years before selling it and buying the 97. The 2003 was just not luxurious. Very sterile and the metallic fake wood was ridiculously bad.
    I love the 70s and 80s Town Cars, but the 70’s are just too big to use everyday if you live in a city of any size. The 80s cars are beautiful and comfortable, but they disintegrate around you if you live in a place that has winter weather.
    Our 97 now has 135,000 miles, is in great shape, zero rust despite living in Iowa, and runs like a champ.
    Of all the TCs I would say that the styling of the 70s is the best, 99s second, 89s third, 2000s and very distant last.
    Again, only my own opinions from experience.
