I have an 08. So you're saying the old style of having an actual auxilary switch on the dash was better lol. And a $20 adapter from custom dynamics allow the passing lamps/fog lamps stay on with the high beams and no dealer flash to anything. It appears the bikes are getting more and more ridiculous with what you need to do to perform simple simple tasks lol. Some things should just be enabled on the system from the factory...theres no need for all the "dealer flash" crap in my opinion
I agree with you but you have to understand, your 2008 does not have a BCM. You do have an ECM that controls ignition, efi etc. The BCM on the new bikes as well as cars control all other functions, canbus. It makes it impossible to work on these new vehicles unless you have the break out electronic tools to flash and program. They are available but just to expensive for the average home mechanic. It's ridiculous but all newer vehicles are this way.
@amberbali8881 I'm not saying they can't advance and have more tech. All I'm really saying is this "dealer flash" is to simply check a box allowing the bcm to allow certain things to be open and unlocked. There's no need for these options to be locked in the first place. There can be a menu inside the settings somewhere that you can simply check a box and essentially say "okay, I now have fog lights" without needing a dealer to do that. It's simply to get you back at the dealership everytime you do anything to your bike, it's ridiculous
@@PitbullSoco Totally agree. Revenue builder for dealerships. Some are cool and will just flash it if not crazy busy. Most charge 1/2 hr labor for a 5 minute deal.
Great tips, John! Will keep these accessories in mind, for my eventual new model purchase. The factory kickstand switch sounds like it could be a headache. That sounds almost like grounds for a recall, eventually disabling the feature altogether.

Its Hill Hold (standard feature) and add on plug is Hill Hold Assist. Harley sells it for $60. I had to go to the dealer so they could enable it.
As far as I understand the fog lamp plug attaches to the same plug as the hill hold assist. Was I told wrong?
Yes, I believe it’s a different connection but in the same area
John just to add a comment. Everyone needs to use a quality cable when doing this. I have seen a few instances where a dollar store or gas station cable can be glitchy

Go into your car play settings and turn on the allow CarPlay while locked. This will allow it to connect while the screen is blacked out or locked.

Harley Davidson is now selling what they're calling a "Vehicle hold control upgrade kit" actually it just became available on their website $69.95 under New arrivals, pretty much the same part, maybe better for the Warranty though. ✌️
Not sure about that, but just so you guys know, I forgot to mention that, even though you install that plug for the kickstand switch, you will still have to go to the dealer and they have to flash that on the computer. My Laconia trip video at Harley Davidson of Rochester shows you that Just wanted to mention it

@timsstereosystems3544 I'm wondering how many different manufacturers are actually making this one specific part? Failures happen from brand new parts occasionally but not sure it's Harley parts only if they're coming from the same manufacturers it could be just poor luck?✌️
@@timsstereosystems3544 Tim, I have your part after seeing it on John's video from Laconia. It's great. For those that already have the Harley part, if they have a failure and bike won't start, wouldn't just unplugging the Harley harness from the connector under the bike allow the bike to start?
@@timsstereosystems3544 the part Harley is selling is brand new this year and it’s installed on the CVOs and I haven’t heard anyone in the CVO groups complaining that it failed

Great video John as always 🤘🏻💯!! I have Custom Dynamics lights on my Fat Boy also. I have the front 2 running/side marker lights , the rear marker lights and the rear brake light. Absolutely love them. I would like to know what headlight you would recommend for my bike ( 02 Fat Boy ). I have an LED headlamp , but not one of the best, I could definitely use an upgrade. I got the part that goes under the seat from Torque Custom Cycles and have had zero luck with it. Navigation will not work, only music. It also makes the phone not work as far as calls, texts and says “ no internet connection.” You have to connect to wifi to get the phone working again. Turning the phone off/on will not reset it either. Any ideas??

Great video John, if apple CarPlay pops up on the bike screen are you able to use the touch screen on the bike to change the music or maps?

With that CarPlay adapter CarPlay works just as it it would in your car, the only thing is you won’t be able to use Siri to reply to texts or make phone calls but Siri will still read messages, voice prompts will work and your touch screen will work

With the car play you could get a Bluetooth wifi dongle and go cable free
Unless it’s just a CVO thing, CarPlay is wired or wireless on the new bikes. I actually use a Sena headset and never have my phone plugged in unless I’m on a long road trip using navigation
@@fragtastic4I use a Sena headset and have no adapters and CarPlay works wired or wireless for me. While I do have the Harley’s Nav enabled since it came with my bike, I use Apple Maps for nav. I used the CarPlay jumper on my old Ultra and never cared 100% for it since all the adapters enable CarPlay but you don’t have the ability to use a microphone to have Siri respond to texts or to make phone calls. My point to my previous statement and this one is if you just use a headset to enable CarPlay instead of these adapters, the bikes have wireless CarPlay.
@@Jedi_CVO-RG CVO comes with the sena right? I have hd branded sena 20s for my wife and I to talk to each other on the ultra limited when we take trips. They are (where when I bought them) $450 a set. I don't have to charge the Maedhawk, it cost $18 and don't have worry about it being in my bag.

Hill assist is only supposed to work while in gear. You shouldn't be in neutral on a hill or at a stop anyway. Just how I was taught, ride your own ride.
