    Thank you so much! I hope to work myself up to be a breeder like you. You make it all look so easy,lol, but it's not. Working with these Zebra Finches and having succesful hatchings will push me to upgrade to more types of birds. It's so rewarding in every way. I subscribed to your videos and will have more questions I am sure. lol. Googling does not always give you the right answers ya know....

    It does have it's drawbacks and is very labor intensive way to incubate, but it does work very well, I have hatched many different species of birds this way, I now use a commercial incubator with automatic egg turner and automatic humidity control, the hatch rate is the same as the old ome made one, this way is a good for entry level on a budget and can be built for less than 30$ while my new hovabator incubator cost over 500$

    @TheBlondeyBoy Im not sure what your asking? eggs can be left a room temp for a few days before incubating right after they are hatched, it is a trick breeders do to have all the eggs hatch at the same time, but can reduce viability

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  14 років тому

    @ponkypr yes just use a larger float bowl, and check online for the correct temperature.

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  16 років тому

    your welcome, I should say that some store bought aquarium heaters don't go high enough at the highest setting, but the knob can be removed and reinstalled further around the dial.

  • @LorraineHatrix
    @LorraineHatrix 5 років тому

    Would a styrine box be better for temp control?

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  14 років тому

    @BikeStand122 max the heat , pull the knob off, put it back on at the lowest setting and turn it up till the temp is right, repeat if needed

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  12 років тому +1

    Depending on the species of parrot you need really high humidity, most south american tropical rain forest birds bred in almost 100% humidity in the wild, while African birds require less, to lower the humidity just float more bowls to reduce the surface area of the water. some aquarium heaters may need the dial removed and reset at a higher setting.

    Positive reinforcement,, give lots of praise and treats when it steps up the make it step further and further away. till it has to fly to you then increase the distance,

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  15 років тому

    for conure eggs I found that water temp about 105 put the temp in the bowl at about 99 then you can adjust up or down after that. with the towel,
    .

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  14 років тому

    @The619hassan aquarium heater available at most pet stores

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  14 років тому

    @The619hassan yes, in fact I have incubated different species at the same time, as long as the temp requirments are the same,

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  16 років тому

    yes but you dont need as much humidity , covering the water with another tuperware container and placing wet sponges in will work well for chickens.

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  14 років тому

    @CrazyBirdChick simple, you use your incubator, just float another identical container on top of the water , add a wet paper towel or sponge for humidity put chicks in a bowl, and keep a eye on on the temp.slowly lower the temp. as they feather in.

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  16 років тому

    If you made it like mine , not enough humidity should not be a problem, in fact I often have to float more bowls to get it down.
    If yours has a heat source you can always add wet sponges.

    I have hatched finch eggs in this set up and it worked fine, you just have to be really careful when turning them because they are small and fragile.

  • @TreyRust
    @TreyRust 14 років тому

    @nonskids do you only rotate them during the day though? or do you have to wake up in the middle of the night and rotate them too?

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  15 років тому

    Right after draw down, about 2 or 3 days before hatch, I usually candle them to see when they entered the air sack but you can also tell when you hear peeping coming out of the egg .

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  16 років тому

    I found the water temp works best at 102 to 105 , seems to put the temp in the bowl around 99 to 100, then I can fine tune the temp with the towel on top . but remember different species require different temps

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  14 років тому

    @pilotgal22 a minimum of 99 and a maximum of 105 , higher temp will make the egg develop faster but makes for a weak chick , lower temp slows down develepment but can cause a "dry hatch" I have the best sucess byt keeping it around 100

  • @clearwaterjjs
    @clearwaterjjs 15 років тому

    That is too cool. I need to try this method because I still have too many males and they toss or break apart all the eggs in every nest. ugh, they are not tame finches so it's hard to catch any adult in their one huge cage. And thank you razorx71. Will try the 123 then 321 method. I hope 5 or 6 small movements a day is ok. On what day of incubation on zebra finches do you stop rotating it? Sounds silly to most, I know. But you have to stop before they hatch. Just don't know a range.

  • @BikeStand122
    @BikeStand122 14 років тому

    @nonskids the heater's max temprature is 34 c(atleast thats what it writes) will it go 36-37c?

    what tempurater should be in heater

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  15 років тому

    No to both questions, you need to have a male and female bird of the same species and they have to mate before the egg is laid. a a rule most species have to be in a egg laying role before you can substitute eggs.

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  16 років тому

    you have to play with it a bit I usally max it out , see where that puts the temp at then remove the knob and put it back on further around till it can get the temp dialed in.

    Just wondering, do you have a day-job, or are you at home all day? I'm trying this right now, but already I think I've failed because I can't check on the egg until I get home. Unfortunately, the egg is pretty much an orphan since its mother died of egg-binding and its father hasn't been checking on the egg; I really have few to no more other options. :(

    after how many days your eggs hatched?

  • @nonskids
    @nonskids  16 років тому

    after 3 or 4 days you should see veins growing in the shell after a week you should see the chick embryo moving with a heart beating. be very careful, excessive shaking our bumping can kill them at this early stage

  • @nonskids
