Great video! I recently had some Kahva studded tires ordered to our local bike shop and I am super excited to get them on my bike! Snow is finally hitting us in Owatonna MN and my old tires just aren't doing the trick. They should be here Friday of this week I cannot wait! I wanted to see how tire studding was done too so this video gets 5 stars and a fat like from myself😂🤙☮️ Very many thanks🙏
Great video! Simple & clear. Im following the instructions. I can hear the pop you talk about. Im in the process now... but mine are not popping. They look to be seated correctly. I can push them in deeper but that results in them disappearing. Any tips?
So, I have just spent $450 ordering a pair of 45North Wrathchild tires, read reviews that complain about high number of lost studs and the info video tells me to check the stud insertion on my new purchase. Oh, and I have just discovered my bike shop does not stock the insertion tool or spare studs !!
Thanks for the video. I have your Xerxes tires and I need to replace some studs. All of your replacements are concave, while the studs on the Xerxes are flat. I can't seem to find any convex 45Nrth replacement studs for the Xerxes. Which 45Nrth studs should I use for Xerxes replacements? Also, do I need to remove the tire from the rim to restud a few? If I leave the tire on, do I need to remove all the air or can I restud a few with the tire fully inflated?
I'm confused - near the end he says that pavement will "shed" studs, but says nothing on how far to ride on pavement initially to "seat" studs, which on the 45nrth website peeps are saying anywhere from 20 to 50 Km of pavement riding is necessary before taking to trails.
Great tutorial! Are the XL studs more prone to shedding than the concave studs? I have about a 1/4 mile stretch of pavement that I peddle over before I reach the trail head...
Pavement doesn't hurt them, it's wheelspin or skidding on exposed rocks and roots that pulls them out. In fact, a lot of studded tire manufacturers recommend putting several pavement miles on your tires before taking them off road, to ensure that all the studs are seated properly. Just take it easy and you'll be fine.
Great video all in all....but BUMMED OUT AT THE END! I recently emailed a 45NRTH rep about getting studs for my Gravdal tires and NOT ONE WORD ABOUT THERE BEING THREE TYPES! Very lame. I'll also add it might made a lot more sense to deposit a drop or two of alcohol at the hole with an eye dropper rather than rely on what a dipped stud can hold.

I used this video to stud my tires, worked great....Thanks Charlie! How do we get the studs out after they are warn and need to be replaced?
Sure do wish you got an answer on this!!!
Some other UA-cam videos do show removal. Just do a quick search. It’s essentially the reverse of the installation.
Thank you, good info. Do I have to ride the bike on pavement after stud install to settle them before hitting the trail?
thank you.... what you think use glue hold beter ?

These would probably work great in my hiking boots

How much weight does it add to fully stud a tire?

A pack of studs for bicycle tires costs $125. Apparently they are christened with unicorn tears before they leave the factory.
Carbide studs are fairly involved to manufacture. That said 45nrth overcharges for literally everything. Bikestud.com is where it's at.
$40 for 300 anywhere else.
