Still confuse. Search over 2 hours. Cant find a straight answer. How do i know what tire go on what rim (wheel you call it) The width. If the tire is 245 width. This is not the width where tire fit in rim. Soooooo confuse 😅

80-100mm for 4.3-5” tires 60-70 mm for 3.8” 40- 45 mm internal for 3” tires 35- 40 mm internal for 2.8” 30-34 mm for 2.6” 25-30 mm for 2.4” And so on down to gravel tires. In my experience, these are optimal sizes for mtb tires.. keep in mind a lot of labeled sizes are not what they say at all. You gotta measure them with the calipers once they’re mounted and even check out what the difference is when you use different width wheels it is noticeable. Also, a lot of tires have different shapes. Some have more rounded profiles some are more square top (like the maxxis minion DHF) that thing is like Frankenstein head

My old k2 mtb had 19 mm, no wonder the 2.2 tires were sooo hard to get off...now those rims have 1.2 tires and my new 30 mm rims have 2.5 tires...but i swear the new aluminum rims are twice the weight...

would it be safe to say if the tire I want says you can use a rim sized from 8-12 so would a 10" wide rim put that 12.5" tire in a good spot.

Parktool say the first iso number is width of tyre when inflated.

Hello. How and what do you measure on your rim to determine the tire size

New to MTB here. I’ve been told to run low tire pressure. Once you have weight on the tire, wouldn’t that change the profile of the tire 🤔

This is a helpful video. I have a 21mm internal rim so was able to calculate what size rim I need based on the tire number on the tire. With that sad, my other bike has a rim that 20.5 internal rim width and I put a Maxxis Hookworm 2.5 width 29er tire and had no problems. That in theory is too wide a tire for those rims but at the time I knew nothing about compatibility of rim vs tire widths, so I just did it and never had a problem. I want to replace my tires on a 27.5 with internal rim width of 21 mm. I won't over do it on tire width even tho on my 29er I had no problem. I will try to do things right this time.
