I own several military trucks, m35a2 deuce and half, m925 5 ton, m109a2 shop van, and i always hate seeing any military vehicles being chopped and hacked, but i have to admit, this turned out good and was kept close to original style, thanks. I like this show, not real flashy and Hollywood produced, just a real mechanic garage with real work, and zero drama.
@@Gonzoitis in this video? That's a 10 ton. Old deuce and half's, old 5 tons and 10 tons uses the same cabs, different suspension and engines. My m925 5 ton uses a different cab, it's something like 16 inches wider and has tilt forward hood.
@@curtisboswell2619 yes, 5 speed Allison, has nhc 250hp Cummins 855 , 14Liter, I love this truck, has only 20,000 miles, still has all under coating, when I got it I went completely threw it, all new brake shoes, air brake diaphragms, new bearings and seals in all axles, new coolant, fuel, and oil rubber lines, completely rebuilt engine because it says for so many years that the pistons had seized to cylinder liners that had surface rust, replaced water pump, alternator with an aftermarket because military ones are junk, replaced the starter with a faster gear reduction starter, and a long list of other things. Truck doesn't have any rust or dents. I could have probably drove it for years without replacing half of the stuff, but I wanted to make sure was completely safe, dependable and won't have to mess with anything for years. I drive it everyday like a regular truck, I love that truck.
I do not condone cutting up old military trucks but you my sir are free to do so. Only one I have seen actually come out looking good and great roof angle.
I can just see the expression on the Motor Pool Sargeant's face. He's thinking, "I've seen most of these things and I certainly don't remember that model!!"
In the world I live in, it's nice to see people that help others. That's what's going to make sure we survive as a species. And we'll be driving really cool vehicles...
The wife and I are hoping and praying that John is doing excellent on his recovery and having fun in that truck or I should say his ultimate bug-out vehicle
DUDE!!!!! You absolutely NAILED that quad conversion!!!!!! Owning and converting an old '95' or deuce & a half style military truck to a full on Camper has been a dream vision of mine for years! The air ride seats are a definite MUST HAVE to travel in comfort in one! GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS for enduring having to drive one without air seats! I have seen many elaborate military truck camper conversions, along with the fuel used to run them. There are several people that converted the trucks to using waste peanut oil from reataurants! They said it smells like french fries rolling down the road! I'm okay with that! Lol Again, GREAT VIDEO and JOB on this build! You have a new BIG fan here!!
I enjoyed watching John being there with you, he is a really nice man, real nice outlook on life n his smile is uplifting. I hope he lives to see many more years and in good health after this surgery.
I enjoyed this build. Back in the day I worked for a while on the General Staff G-3 Operations. we had a M-820 5T 6x6 used as a “Jump TOC” or forward Tactical Operations Center that would go out and quickly set up for control while the Main TOC would displace. Also used to go to the departure airfield while units were sent on readiness exercises for local C&C and it worked great. we pulled a genset trailer behind, dropped it and connected, then cranked out the sides, turned on the A/C and coffee pot and boom - in business! However, there’s no way to make it a 4-door since the back is not only tight against but it also has a cab over with the air conditioner. Moving the van back enough for another cab would be a good challenge for Ian, though.
I bought my 1st. Military truck from John back in Dec. 1995. It is a 1942 Chevy G506. It was just a cab and chassis. I found a bed for it a few years later and Ian did some welding on it. Both guys are good friends.
I really appreciate the fact that you went through all that trouble looking for the doors and parts for that kind old man. Thank you for helping that old man with maximum effort. Respect, Subbed and liked.
You have done an excellent job with this truck restructuring and refitting and welding. It looks great and all natural to me. Everyone who contributed part's and the like gets well deserved thanks for helping this truck be complete. Your knowledge about welding and metal fabrication are great sir. Praying for the owner and his family as he recovers from his back surgery 🙏🏼. It'll be great for him to see the completed truck. All the best and take care. 👍🏼🏞🌄🇺🇲
The truck is amazing and looks amazing. Giving a second life to trucks like this, is the way we should go more often. The second life it will give John and the encouragement to recover is the ultimate win. Hope to see him in the truck in one of your later videos. Cheers Ian.
First of all I've got to say great job got 24 years in the Army in the maintenance system. There's something that I wish everybody understood about military equipment. It's painted with cark paint cark paint is heavy with lead so that it's not picked up on radar. You weald that you grind that you sand whatever you're releasing lead into the air and you're breathing it.
Not to mention the low levels of radioactive dust and dirt that can cause health problems with these ex-military vehicles. Sometimes they carry stuff that you can never get rid of, if they come from a war zone that used delpeted uranium ordinance.
Love the truck, I drove truck while in the Army and would love something like that with a pass thru. Maybe not a 4 door but an extended cab with walk thru to the box. I have many memories about sleeping in the ole M35a2 trucks.
I love this channel. Ian is crazy smart. I don't know if there are other magicians behind the scenes, but whatever the case may be, start to finish is mind blowing. No silly deadlines (except for the Riv build, but that deadline was legit. The car wasn't completed in time - but the show must go on). The fact that no profanity is bleeped and his temperament is always under control, and the humor is spontaneous is so refreshing. Ian...will you adopt me so I can laze around in your shop watching the magic happen...oh wait, that's essentially what I'm doing in the comfort of my own recliner...
I have a M 105 box sitting in my back yard being us d as storage area. I had to put a rollup door on it as the guy i bought it from stipped the doirs off of it before he delivered it. He is a straight up crook. The unit i have has the expandable slideout wings. While in the army i used to see these in field operation and they had radios, blackout lighting, and removable generators and diesel heaters. Cool setup.
I was bad off for many years. I was told about a tablespoon of Camelina Oil in water before bed from a very knowledgeable person who for a few decades has always been spot on so I tired it. After the third day I hop right up out of bed and go outside to tinker and play with my dogs. I went to 10 minutes of groans getting up each day to able to sit right up, get dressed and go outside. I was bad off as in arthritis, gout and some bad joint damage over the years. Today if I do not over do it I am good. Nothing hurts. So much better than any of the kidney hurting meds I was prescribed for years. Just throwing that out there after seeing how bad this old move like I used to.
Ahhh yes boys and there toys ! I think the guy that had the doors and seats might have some future projects🤔. Unless you plan on building an army truck 😄
Great job on the truck. I really enjoy your work and won't complain if you post old shows ive watched some of your same builds more than 4 times and each time in amazement. 👍
BRO! You got some crazy mad skills. It makes me wish I had a project vehicle for you to work on. Keep up the awesome work and I will most definitely keep watching all of your videos.
I think Ian could give Elon a few ideas on design, just saying. But both are exceptional with design work. This is a great lesson on the roof design plan
I spy with my little eye a brown ford anglia/prefect my first car (which was a van) in your friends stash - vacuum windscreen wiper which slowed down when you went uphill and demented when going down and an optional extra was the passenger seat. Memories 😢🇬🇧
Afternoon Ian, I think those Army trucks are pretty cool, I know some people, like your customer are very into them, you did a nice job...I was wondering what you were going to do with the tandem wheel arches, I would have liked the arches to have been moved to above the tandems, but I understand why you probably didn't.
