Hi all! Before I get into today's Holiday Card Series video, I have to apologize for going MIA for a few days. Unfortunately, I was sick after being out of town. I was already behind because of travel, so being sick really set me back. Thankfully, I'm feeling much better! :) I will have three videos for you all this week (today, Friday, and Saturday).
Today's Holiday Card Series video is a bit different. I've been wanting to share these origami gift card holders for quite some time.
These are so easy to make and all you need is wrapping paper! I can fold one in about 2-3 minutes, so it's a great last-minute way to make a gift card special.

I'd like to say, as someone who works as an American Sign Language Interpreter, I'm happy to see the pop up bubbles for the measurements. Many of these videos are not captioned (youtube captioning is CRAP! as it's voice recognition software) so our population who are deaf, don't have access. Nice to see. Something everyone could and should do.
Stay tuned! This very is being captioned currently. I've been adding CC to my videos for a couple years now. :)
We used to fold dollar bills like this. If you folded them just right people couldn't figure out how to open them.
This would look great using brown paper or butcher paper and then just adding stamps or colored pens or even cutouts glued on top. Great ideas as always K.
I love this idea! Thank you! I needed a solution for a gift card holder that could be tucked into a Christmas card and mailed. So many gift card holders have too much bling and such and would make a card too bumpy and therefore at risk of getting torn up in the mailing process.. I think I could just use washi tape in lieu of a ribbon so it would not add bulk to mail inside a Christmas card. With the price of postage it's nice to find a pretty solution that does not add additional cost to the card being mailed. And it's wonderful to use up leftover Christmas wrapping paper, and environmentally friendly! This is a win-win idea!
I watch this video every yr. Thank you so much for making it.
So sorry you have been feeling "under the weather" and am glad you're feeling better. Missed you.
Super nice idea!!! it not only works for the Holiday season but also for any moment you want to give a gift card or even money... Nice!!!
Forgot to get gift card holders, searched UA-cam and your video popped up first. Followed along, thanks from me in 2017.
Ooh, this is definitely a nice flat way to send a gift card, instead of cardstock. Thank you for posting.
You know, Kristina...I've been watching your Holiday Card Series for several years now. I actually find myself getting palpitations when I see that the series is beginning! lol I have to say...I love this gift card holder idea. I just sent out 4 birthday cards this week to family members. They are shaped cards that hold gift cards. I have 4 adult kids and 4 adult kids-in-law...plus 11 grandchildren...6 of whom are all adults...and 5 young grandchildren. I also have 4 great-grandchildren! So gift cards come in mighty handy for the older ones! I love to make wonderful Christmas cards. But always seem floundering when it comes to making gift card holders. I would rather spend all my time on making the Christmas cards and send quick, easy-to-make gift card holders inside the cards. Voila! You've made this so, so easy! I think I might try to use some pretty double sided Christmas paper if I can find some. Saves even more time. Thank you, thank you! Love all your creations.
What a great video! Trading cards or written sentiments could be tucked in there, too. I did a bit of experimenting; it turns out that it can be made from a standard size(8.5"x11") piece of paper. The adjusted measurements would be 8 1/2"x9 3/4", and the gift card fits perfectly. The trimmed strip becomes the belly band, and you're left with no extra paper to toss into your stash pile. Also, by not folding the holder in half, you are able to insert a larger, square shaped gift card in it. Thanks for making the video!
I just love how quick and simple these gift card holder are and because they are nice and this they can go inside a card - thank you for sharing
Love this, can use it all year --- not just Christmas.
Glad you shared this. I bought gift card holders last year and they were a joke. Cost was way too high for what they offered. Put together rather badly too. With this one can do whatever to make them totally awesome. Thank again for sharing.
Here's a few adaptions you might find useful:
1) OTHER SIZES: If you want to adapt this for other sizes you just need to do a bit of algebra. The shortest side of the voucher (the height) is X. The longest side (width/length) is Y. The dimensions of your piece of paper need to be 4X by 2.5Y. You may need to add about 0.5cm extra to the width and height if you're using thicker paper. I'd recommend trying this out with newspaper first to check the size is right before moving on to wrapping paper.
2) SHORT EDGE FOLD: If you wanted to try this so that the fold sits along the shorter edge, not the longer edge, just make X the longer edge and Y the shorter edge. Then apply the 4X by 2.5Y when measuring out your paper.
3) CONCEALED SPINE: You may also have noticed that the spine/fold/hinge of the wallet shows some of the underside of the wrapping paper. Not so problematic if you're using brown paper, but it shows up much worse if you're using white backed wrapping paper. I recommend cutting a small strip of paper the length of the wallet and about 3-4 cm in width. Fold this in half and glue it inside the gap. Alternatively, find some pretty ribbon or a contrasting paper. Cut to the same length as the wallet and glue over the top of the gap. Make sure you do this whilst the wallet is folded closed, otherwise you may find that the wallet will no longer sit well when closed.
Just for your reference, I adapted this idea to use for some restaurant vouchers. I put the vouchers in the bottom section of the holder and a copy of the menu in the top. I tied it up with a ribbon and put it on the Christmas tree so it didn't get lost.
What a great way to use up your have extra wrapping paper! I also think you could use tis technique all year round just by changing out the paper patterns. No tape, no glue, no mess I love it tfs.
Fabulous idea for those small pieces of wrapping paper that won't fit anything else! Thanks so much for sharing!
What a great idea. Glad you are feeling better.
Great video we can all use. Lots of gift cards flying around at Christmas Time. Thank you
loved this...watched again....thanks Kristina.
Kristina, I LOVE these! I am so glad you did this video! I make 50+ gift card holders for my Mom and my MIL every year and I make them different each year. I have no gift card dies as yet so I have learned to be quite creative! These are really sweet and I like that they actually look like a gift especially where our Mom's are able to hand deliver most of them! TFS! (Pinned!)
I love this idea using gift paper! Elegant and simple👍 I have a stash of vintage gift paper (+25-30yrs old) that is perfect for creating these little holders! It also gave me the idea of using gift paper to line my envelopes for my hand-painted Christmas cards!😁☕
So cute. I can see this little pocket on the front or on the inside of a greeting card. TFS!
I actually think I will use this for my subway/bus-card. I'm trying to downsize all the plastic in my life but I only find plastic bus-card holders. And I can make it seasonal as well! Woho!
Great idea!
Thanks for sharing. I scaled it up just a little bit so US currency (folded in half) will fit: cut the paper 11 by 9.5 inches, score at 2.75, 5.5 and 8.25 (measured along the 11 inch edge). The liner piece is 5.25 inches by 3.75 inches. I actually slipped a second liner inside the outer layer to cover the hinged part too.
Some menu brochures and restaurant paper placemats cal be folded this way to make a tip wallet for your waitress/ server...
I will definately be using this for Christmas this year. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this! So easy and beautiful!
Love the simplicity of the card holder & it can be embellished as desired. Enjoyed your tutorial, clear and to the point--easy to follow! TFS
I love your videos and your artwork! So happy you're feeling better, Kristina. Hugs!
WOW!! Kristina, that was so super easy. I had only scrap book paper at hand so I tried that as a sample. And it came out just right. Albeit a little askew on one side and that was adjustable too. I would imagine the wrapping paper would be even better. I am so jazzed. Thanks for a great gift card holder!! Michele, a happy camper now! :)
So cute! I paint gift wrap (butcher block) every year and will do this with my scraps! Thanks!!
Love how easy this is and how great it looks!

So fun! I have some double sided wrapping paper that will work great for this.
Adorable Kristina...thanks...
you could also use a pencil eraser to tuck the liner paper in.
The ribbon or string would help avoid something that small matching wrappings from getting lost or tossed.

Fabiana Costa Yes, you can 😊. I found this method years ago and it was for making a mini scrapbook album. I made it and it came together super easy. There are lots of pockets so you could add a sentiment as well! 😊
