    I'm a huge fan of the Zelda series, but my least favorite thing about every Zelda game I've ever played was the feeling of not being able to go certain places in the overworld just because I didn't have a specific item yet. I also always hated how the story and dungeon order was linear in all the games, but there were many times in several of them when I didn't know what I was supposed to do next and I couldn't find evidence to guide me. I love the fact that they've fixed both of these problems in A Link Between Worlds by giving you access to all the items from the beginning and by letting you complete the dungeons in whatever order you choose.
    I can't wait. :D

I hope you keep up the outstanding ALBW coverage, as it along with Super Mario 3D World will be the game I'll be looking forward to playing this holiday season!

    While the innovation argument is completely valid, Zelda games have always been unique from previous and future entries. The formula that is followed is just what makes them a sequel

    HOLY SHIT THAT MUSIC. This game literally seems like it has the potential to be one of the best zelda's in almost a decade! This sounds like it fixes every single problem I have that has made me disappointed with every post-windwaker zelda game.

    one of the best zelda's yet. the whole non-linear feeling you get from being able to choose which item you want to carry really makes a huge difference in the feeling of exploration. I really hope they incorporate this into the next 3d zelda on wii u, with a huge open world. just leave it free to choose where we want to go. thats also how i want the next 3d metroid prime style game to be like. just land on a planet with a mission and then get searching like you would in a real situation like that.

    Every review I've seen/read of this game has pointed out that there is little to no handholding. I can't even express how happy that makes me, honestly. • @GameXplain
      @GameXplain  10 років тому +19

      Well technically it is 10 out of 10 since we do half stars. It's just the way we do things. But yeah, I'm calling this one a must play ;) ~Derrick

    • @TheInfinityMaster1
      @TheInfinityMaster1 10 років тому +10

      ***** I know, but the increased range helps, that is:
      5 to 6 -> Average.
      7 to 8 -> Good.
      9 -> Very Good.
      10 -> Awesome!
      Instead of:
      3 -> Average.
      4-> Good (or very good).
      5-> Awesome.
      Not to mention that games with 8 stars are considered better than similar games with 7 stars for example.
      But its okay anyway. Keep up the good work! :)

    I still don't get it when people say that this changed up the Zelda formula. How? By making it like A Link to the Past? The game that made the Zelda formula what it is? Collect three doohickeys, get master sword, complete last couple of dungeons and win the game.
    Sorry, but to me this game doesn't do anything new aside from the painting ability and the item meter that makes it so you almost never run out of bombs or arrows. "But rupees have more significance!" Like in Skyward Sword? This isn't the first game to do this.
    This game feels very by the numbers, and I think that has to do with the fact that it borrows so much from A Link to the Past. I get it, it's a sequel to ALTP, but Twilight Princess was a sequel to Ocarina of Time and that game didn't have the same exact Hyrule. While that game borrowed some elements from Ocarina of Time, it was still had enough to be it's own Zelda game.
    In some ways this game feels like damage control. So many people were upset about Skyward Sword so they made this game (that was originally supposed to be a successor to Spirit Tracks) almost exactly like A Link to the Past; a game that every Zelda fan is supposed to love.
    I think this game would be MUCH better if it didn't borrow so much from A Link to the Past and if it did it's OWN thing. Because it takes so much from A Link to the Past I don't see how it changes the Zelda formula. I understand it's not linear like the past few Zelda games (though I still fail to see how linearity in Zelda games is a bad thing), but this game still feels very by the numbers and samey. Been there, done that. I do like this game, I just think people over praise this because A Link to the Past. I'm not saying that this reviewer is saying that, I'm saying that a lot of people have.

    • @MultiCool55
      @MultiCool55 10 років тому

      It's mostly different based on the item renting mechanic and doing any dungeon you want.
      Yeah it borrows a lot from past games but I think it's still quite fun.

    • @pfcomix
      @pfcomix 9 років тому +3

      None of the reasons you stated changed up the zelda formula. It's mostly that the game gives you more freedom than any other zelda game since the first. You can tackle most of the dungeons in any order you want.

    To the people asking about the red sword:
    From what I can tell, it's still the Master Sword. Just with a glowing, red hue on the blade. Probably similar to the light thingy that was put on the Master Sword in Twilight Princes. I'd guess that it allows you to do something else with it, or maybe it's just more powerful.

    • @RustyKoi
      @RustyKoi 10 років тому +8

      In A Link to the Past, you can temper the Master Sword with the help of some gnomey blacksmiths, and it becomes orange after that point.
      Probably something more like that.

    After going back between this & A Link to the Past, I can say that this is my favorite 2D Zelda game. My favorite Zelda game of all time along with Majora's Mask. Nothing wrong with A Link to the Past, that game is still amazing, but I feel like A Link Between Worlds did so much compelling to me than what A Link to the Past has. I love both of them, but A Link Between Worlds is my pick.

    I've not had the chance to play this yet, but I don't like the idea of Ravio's shop. One of my favorite things in Zelda is to explore a dungeon and find the next cool item to use for the rest of the dungeon's puzzles and in the future. I'd much rather do that than be forced to buy the tools. It removes the surprise element of what you get to use in the game, too. And the renting mechanic makes me want to grind for rupies just to actually own the items instead of risking the rentals.
    I am excited to play the game, though. It looks really fun. I just don't like the methods of item procurement.

    • @Slizarus
      @Slizarus 10 років тому

      You'd be surprised at how little you'll care about how you procure items when you play it. Not to mention the added fun of having an awesome item, not required for the dungeon, to use against an enemy, finding hidden vulnerabilities like freezing fire things with your ice rod instead of blowing them out with the required dungeon item the Tornado staff thing. Renting it for fun, lead to a new cool way of beating things.
      Plus, rentals are 1/16th the price of purchase, it's no big deal, I doubt you'll even die much in normal mode. Just save when you have all the items you want and restart if you die without much progress.

    Guys, I really would want this question answered, and I admit it's kind of specific.
    Does the game force you to pick up the heart container after a boss is killed, like in ALTTP, or can you get the dungeon token and get out without picking it up like later games?
    Thanks!

    • @GameXplain
      @GameXplain  10 років тому +9

      I never personally tried it, but it was always laying off to the side. So I think you can skip the Heart Containers if you want to. ~Derrick

      I know this was asked a while ago but feel I'll answer in case anyone is reading through these now and wants to know. You definitely can skip heart containers. I did it by accident once and when I went back to the boss room the container was there waiting for me.

    having grown up with the Zelda series, ive played most of them. the latest one being skyward sword. I enjoyed ss ,but for some reason I just didn't like some of the mechanics. this one though I really like. cant stop playing. I like the look and the renting aspect I also like. something different. anyway, for me this is my favorite one in many years. dare I say maybe as good as ocarina and lttp.imh

    I'm someone who's also replayed ALttP about 30+ times, and I have to say that ALttP's dungeons are equally as small as ALBWs. But ALttP has a few dungeons with more optional rooms that aren't required, which might make you think they're longer..but in actual playtime it isn't.
    So I wouldn't agree with the other guys point that the dungeons are shorter than ALttPs. I can really beat most ALttP dungeons in 15 minutes, and some ALBW dungeons take me a little longer than that (I'm already attempting to speed run the game). But either way, the dungeon lengths are very comparable between both games, and I think ALBW dungeons have more to them as well. Though ALttP dungeons are easier to get lost in, so to that extent I can understand.
    Still, both games are amazing. I only slightly prefer ALttP since it came first. :3
    (Also, in the beginning the guy says he would have given it 9.5, then says he would give 4.5 with the 5/5 scale system? That doesn't translate properly. 4.5 = 9/10, 4.75=9.5)

      I love that feeling when in a dungeon when you're like ''how do I get up there???'' then you find a hookshot and you can ''get up there'' ....
      That's one of the most special things about Zelda imo. Seeing somewhere or something that you know you can't access because you haven't found the right item. Now we can just rent what ever we want, I'm very intrigued to see if this makes it more or less fun :S

      Edward Ruane Maybe, but in my opinion that aspect of th franchise is not as important as exploration, and this game encourages it more so than the rest of the franchise, almost as in Zelda 1. So it sounds

    Just beat the game and it was fun, rememberable and clever. The music was fantastic, the story was surprising and exquisite. I felt like I actually wanted to save the sages ( especially gully he is sooo cute!) I found lorule to be intriguing and liked exploring it. The new ability is greatly used, but not a gimmick. But if there is a downside bosses are very easy and quick to beat. I didn't mind it though because I was having so much fun!!! Overall it is a great game and I think every Zelda fan should play it!! 10/10

    Did you even beat this game? I beat it a couple days ago. If you did you would have mentioned that if you collect all 100 Maimais, their mother also gives you huge spin attack. Also if you beat the treacherous tower twice, once doing all 50 floors on level advanced, and twice doing it again but beating it with a lower time. You get your bug net and lamp upgraded. Overall I wish you actually reviewed the game instead of talking about stuff that you heard from your friends. So I suggest getting the game....

    whats with all the majoras mask fanboyism the last couple years i appreciate people like it but i get the distinct impression some people are just jumping on a band wagon with it and now its cool to say its ur favourite.theres actualy a comment on here saying these two games look similar.umm,ok?

    • @kentokae
      @kentokae 10 років тому

      Wait were are people are getting the Majora's mask reference from? It's more like A Link to the Past then MM I know I've been playing Zelda since 1988 with the only zelda games I do not have or own is Zelda II and all of the Gameboy, DS and 3DS Games (Except for Links Awakening). IT must be this new hipster fad to link everything to Majora's Mask. Because this is ALttP
